Chapter 338: Brought To The Light

Sebastian had just come in from a meeting with the cowards that served as Haven Group’s legal team, when the message had come in. In fact, he had still been cursing at the idiots. How dare they disobey an order from him? What was so difficult about editing a few contracts that had already been signed,0 without the other parties knowing? After feeling his phone vibrate to alert him of the incoming message. Sebastian had put aside his plans for how he intended to torture the legal team.

Focusing instead on reading the text. The words on his phone instantly making him sit up straight. All thoughts of the weak legal team leaving his mind. The people that he had tailing his nephew reporting a new development.

Apparently Derek and that creature of his had left the city.

He had no idea how long they would be gone, but every time that his nephew left. Sebastian found that he could breathe easier. Even if it was just for a few hours, he would be glad for the break, where he did not have to constantly worry that Derek was plotting against him. He had just settled back down, about to take a power nap at his desk, when the phone had vibrated again.

A second message coming in, and when Sebastian had read it, all thoughts of taking a nap had been pushed to the side. The person on the other end had supplied Sebastian with the name of the road that Derek, and that girl of his were taking.

And while to them it might not have seemed important. Sebastian had felt panic pulling deep in his stomach. Why on earth, after decades of staying away from the place. Had his nephew decided to go to the man-cave, that Sebastian had once shared with his brother. Fear had propelled Sebastian as he’d moved.

He’d run faster than a man in his sixties should have ever been able to do, and even when driving he barely remembered the journey there. Just that he had used skills he’d not known he had. Getting out of the city in record time.

He’d made it to his man cave as fast as he could, but it had already been too late. Derek’s car had been parked up front, and to make matters worse, when Sebastian had gone into his side of the place. He had found the last people who should have ever had access to the area.

Before rushing into the warehouse, Sebastian had taken the time to grab the gun that he kept in his car and take it with him.

He might have looked as though he were just standing with his hands in his pocket. But in truth he was palming his gun. And as he looked at them, he wondered how much of a mess it would leave if he were to just shoot them that very moment, and get it over and done with.

He had been hoping that his nephew, and the girl would have stayed on Jasper’s side. That they would have left his things alone. But that was not the case. He had caught them red-handed in his side of the warehouse, and Sebastian was terrified.

Especially when he noticed that his red car was uncovered.

Twenty years.

For twenty years, he had been able to keep his secret, and now his meddling nephew and his ogre of a girlfriend had just waltzed in and ruined him.

"Apologies uncle, we did not mean to trespass. Curiosity just got the better of us. We will be leaving now," Derek said, his tone apologetic, and that made Sebastian pause.

Yes, his red car was uncovered, but if his nephew had connected the dots. He would not have sounded so guilty. He would have been filled with righteous fury, and glaring daggers at Sebastian but he was not. Instead he was apologizing. Could it be? Sebastian knew that they had evidence photos from the police station.

But it seemed that they had not made the connection between the red car paint in evidence, and the red car that they were currently standing next to. He could still remedy the situation without getting any blood on his hands.

"Out, out, get out right now!" He yelled, advancing on them. Doing his best to make sure that they responded on instinct and began heading towards the door that led to Jasper’s side. So scared that they would not think to look more closely at the car behind them. As he herded his nephew and the girl out, Sebastian stole a glance at the car.

He should have scrapped it years ago, but he had not. At first because doing so would have brought too much attention to him, and then he had not destroyed it due to sentiment. Instead he’d kept it as a reminder of who he was, of how far he was willing to go, to fulfill his dreams. Sebastian wanted to kick that sentimental side of him. As soon as his nephew and the girl were gone, he was going to take the car outside and torch it.

"Out, out, both of you,"Sebastian repeated, as they reached the door, and then he grabbed it and pulled it wide open, his intent being for both of them to cross at the same time. But he realized his mistake the moment that he did so.

The light from Jasper’s side of the warehouse spilled into the darkened corner. Where he had placed the red car, and in doing so it illuminated the giant scratch on the side of the car, and Sebastian like a moth to a flame could not help but look.

And his nephew followed his gaze, his eyes settling on the giant scratch that stretched across the side of the car. Eyes moving from the car to his nephew. Sebastian watched his brow furrow.

The expression swiftly replaced by disbelief, then sadness, then rage, and finally horrible understanding. For twenty years, Sebastian had kept the truth of what had really happened to his brother.

Twenty years, his secret had stayed hidden.

And now he watched it being unravelled, without a single word being uttered. Both Derek and the girl, no, not just a girl.

Emily. She was called Emily.

Her name suddenly came as clear as day to Sebastian. Derek and Emily were staring at the car with wide eyes, and they tend to him in unison.

As quick as anything, Sebastian drew his gun and levelled it at them.

"I had hoped that we would not have to do this, but it seems I have no other choice," He said. And it was not a lie. He did feel genuinely bad for what he’d have to do now.

But secrets needed to be kept. They had forced his hand.
