Chapter 249: Meaningless, Meaningful Words

When it came to sex, one could not be held accountable for whatever it was that made it through their mouths while under the influence of lust.

Sex was like a drug.

It did things to people. Things like turning the most prim and proper ladies and gentlemen out in the streets. Into foul-mouthed sailors the moment the clothes were off, and they were pounding away at each other, all manners and etiquette forgotten. Their vocabulary suddenly being made up of nothing but countless curses.

Nothing said, or thought during sex counted as binding. Under the influence of sex, people said things they did not mean, and got a pass. That was a general rule, one that many people adhered to. And for the longest time, Derek had been amongst those people who believed that rule.

People often said things during sex, that were either blatant lies, or impossible.

"Do it baby, knock me up," A woman out of her mind with lust might say. Her equally delirious partner would then respond to such a statement by pouring everything he had into her.

Energized just by the thought of getting her pregnant. Never mind that the two of them both knew that she was on all types of contraceptives and the man was also wearing a condom to boot. A clear indicator that neither of them actually wanted babies.

But in the heat of the moment

The words would flow as easy as anything.

Aside from various breeding kinks often uttered in the throes of passion, there was also an even more popular phrase, and that phrase was, "I love you," But just as with the, whole get me pregnant thing. It did not count.

"I love you," Said during sex often meant very little. After all, a woman pressed against a grimy wall in an even grimmier bar would lock her legs around a man that she had just met minutes prior.

Wrecked by orgasm, she would not even flinch when said man, spilling deep within her, would gasp out an ’I love you’. If anything, she would return the sentiment. The fact that the two of them were virtual strangers. Who were unlikely to ever see F each other again, not mattering in the least.

That was the power of sex.

That was what it did to people. But when Derek, buried deep within Emily, had watched her come apart. Warm brown eyes locking with his green ones, pupils blown wide with lust.

Derek’d had only one sentence running through his head.

I love you, I love you, I love you.

He had been thinking that even as he had finally run out of energy and collapsed right next to her. And Derek had known the words to be as true, as the blood he had running through his veins. Instead of clouding his mind. Sex had cleared it.

He loved Emily, there was no denying that.

Were he a less patient man? He would have blurted out the words then and there. Letting Emily know exactly how he felt without wasting any time. But even in that moment, with his mind swimming in a post-orgasmic haze. Derek had known that it was best to keep quiet.

A declaration of love was a big deal. The way that a person said, I love you, to someone that they cared about, said a lot.

It was often a very good indicator of how true that statement was, and how much they intended to honor those words.

If he’d just come up with a, by the way, I love you, while laying next to her, the two of them panting heavily, covered in slick, sweat, and semen, it would not have been very romantic.

Not only that, it would have been crass and cruel. Emily was a good woman. She deserved somebody who would show her just how much they valued her.

And Derek wanted to be that person for her. So he did not regret keeping his silence. Emily deserved to be wined and dined.

To be taken to beautiful places and treated with beautiful things, showered in compliments at every turn. That was how she deserved to be treated. And so that was exactly what Derek was going to do. The two of them had eaten together many times. But they had never been on an actual date.

Derek wanted that for them.

The major roadblock in that plan, however, was the fact that Emily was not comfortable with them being out in the open. And if he were being honest. He too was worried of that. It would open a can of worms. One that he was not too interested in dealing with.

Especially since their relationship was still so new. But that did not change the fact that it was a hurdle.

They were a secret.

So they could not just be seen out and about in the city at the classiest restaurants, just enjoying each other’s company after hours. Kissing, and holding hands in public like normal couples did. But also when Derek thought of the whole expensive restaurant thing.

He realized that it was a bit cold,

a bit too formal. Like he would be sticking to the norms on what was expected for somebody like him when they took a person out on a date. He wanted wherever he ended up taking Emily to be somewhere special. Somewhere, where even she would realize that he had actually put in effort into picking a location for them to go.

So it was like this.

Derek wanted to take Emily out on a date. To show her that he cared about her. But the date could not be anywhere where they would be recognized. And it also could not just be some place super expensive. It was easy to just throw money at something.

But to actually come up with a thoughtful idea. Now that, was something that Emily would appreciate.

With those two facts as guiding posts. Derek had spent the week wrecking his brains. And now he believed that he had finally found something.

It was not at all the type of place that anybody who knew Derek Haven would imagine him being at.

And more importantly, the people who ran in his social circles and Emily’s social circles for that matter would not be seen in such a location at any point in time. In addition to that,

Derek was pretty sure that the venue for the date that he had chosen was something that Emily would like a whole lot. For him, that was the biggest thing that finally drew him to deciding on that particular place. When the weekend came, he was taking his girlfriend out on a date.

They were going to have fun just like regular couples did.
