Sleeping With The CEO -
Chapter 216: Milk On A Thursday
Chapter 216: Milk On A Thursday
Call it a pavlovian response, or whatever you wanted. Emily would not have minded either way. The truth was, she and Derek had been sleeping together for a few months now. And thanks to that, every time that Thursday came around, she instantly perked up.
It did not matter what she was going through. Or how difficult Monday to Wednesday had been. As soon as Thursday was so much as mentioned, Emily’s mood picked up instantly.
That was currently the case.
It was Thursday, and Emily had woken up with a song in her heart. She danced as she got ready for work, her steps light. Humming a tune under her breath as she brushed her teeth. And by the time that she was done. Emily was certain that if she had been in one of those cartoon movies which all seemed to have magical princesses. She would have been belting out a few tunes and even throwing some sparkles in the air as she moved. But since she was not some magical fairy princess in a cartoon for kids. Emily simply settled for blowing her reflection a kiss.
In the living room on her way out. She happened to run into her mother, and Emily was instantly on the woman. Giving her a long hug, and then kissing her firmly on the cheek.
"Love you, mom. Bye!" Emily said goodbye to her mother, and just like that she was finally on her way to Haven Group.
She hummed as she walked, a bounce in her step, and every now and then. Emily gave into temptation and actually skipped, earning herself a few looks from the people around her, but she was unbothered. By the time that she got to Haven Group headquarters. Her good mood had not dampened at all.
In fact, when she finally reached her office and found Derek already there. Her happiness went up a few notches.
"Good morning, Derek," She said.
"Good morning, Emily," He greeted back, and she could tell that he too was excited for what was to come.
Thursday, Thursday, Thursday...
It was Thursday at long last. They were going to sleep. With those words going round and round in her head. Emily managed to make it through the workday. Just the knowledge that come night time. She would be able to close her eyes and sleep, giving her an energy boost that she had not had in the days since she and Derek had last shared a bed. She worked harder than should have been possible. Her body pushing itself to the limit.
Each time Emily felt herself begin to flag. All that she had to do was look over at Derek, and she would find her energy renewed. ’Just hang on,
just a little bit longer and the two of you will be spending the night together again. Her inner voice kept saying and Emily was all for it.
So naturally, she dug deeper and worked and worked and worked until the next thing she knew Emily looked up and it was time to go home.
"See you tomorrow Derek," She told him.
Not even feeling the least bit guilty as she made her way out of the office before she even heard his reply. It did not matter whether or not he said anything back. The two of them would be seeing each other in a few short hours.
Once again the trip back home was as cheerful as the trip to work had been. Emily hummed and skipped as she walked. Even when she was in the bus, her good mood continued. She did not engage in conversation with anyone. But she did not sit in silence either. Instead, she put on her headphones.
and blasted her favorite songs at top volume. She was sure that if some doctor were to see her. They would instantly pull the tiny devices out of her ears and admonish her. Talking to her about the safety standards that she needed to adhere to. But Emily did not care.
She was in too good of a mood.
to let things like volume ruin it for her. Besides, it was not like she listened to music on such a high setting on a regular basis. This was a special occasion. She was going to sleep that night, she could afford to celebrate a bit.
At home, Emily found the apartment empty. Trying her best not to be too excited about the fact that she would not be having to lie to her mum. She quickly got changed into more suitable clothes. And then, after packing an overnight bag, Emily was once again out the door.
How had she ever made it through life without feeling all of the joy that was currently bursting from her? How had she never realized just how great everything in the world was.
Walking the streets, Emily waved to random strangers and blew kisses at babies and toddlers. Laughing when some of them returned the kind gesture.
"Sleep for me, sleep is coming, sleep for me, sleep is coming..." She sang under her breath as she walked. Now it was no longer a matter of hours, but a matter of minutes. She would be seeing Derek very soon. With Derek’s building just about to come into sight, Emily picked up her pace.
So intent on arriving there, she almost ignored her phone when she felt it vibrate in her pocket. But force of habit had her reaching in, and pulling out the device. The screen was still on.
It was a message.
Tapping on it, Emily realized that it was from Derek. Strange, they never texted outside work for safety reasons. That meant that she had to read it.
Suddenly worried, Emily opened the message with a single eye closed. Not really sure if she wanted to read the contents. What if it was something bad? Like him cancelling?
Rather than something that would dash her hopes of sleep. Like a message along the lines of, my mother is here, please turn back, do not come here. The message that Derek had sent was something simple. ’We are out of milk, buy some.’ And upon seeing it, Emily could not help but laugh.
There was just something about the ’we’ in his statement that made her feel all warm inside. He had not said, ’I am out of milk,’ but he had said, ’we are out of milk,’ including Emily in the equation. So rather than feel annoyed, Emily had no problem just turning around and heading back in a different direction. Going to where the stores were.
She would get the milk and then afterwards, she would head over to the penthouse and the two of them would sleep. Simple. Ducking into a store that had some pretentious name. Emily made her way to the milk aisle and once she was there, she paused, horrified. What was with these prices?
You would swear that the milk was somehow taken from golden udders with how expensive it was. Reaching for her phone, she sent out a quick text to Derek. ’You are definitely going to reimburse me for this. These rich people’s stores are too expensive,’ she sent. Message delivered, she went back to staring at the milk, trying to look for the brand that she normally saw over at Derek’s place. So focused on the milk, Emily nearly dismissed a shadow materializing from the corner of her eye. But out of instinct she turned her head slightly, thinking that she would just have a quick look and then continue with her business.
But that swift head turn ended up saving Emily, because one look was all that it took to identify the person at the other end of the aisle.
One Sebastian Haven.
At first, Emily froze, unable to comprehend. It just did not make sense for Sebastian to be there. The man made it a point to stay as far away from his nephew as possible. But then logic kicked in and Emily instantly ducked down.
Picking up a bottle of milk and hiding behind it, pretending to study it. Luckily for her, Sebastian was looking straight ahead, and he passed right by her without noticing who she was.
Turning in the opposite direction, Emily pulled out her phone and hastily typed a message,
’Sebastian Haven is here,’
