Sleeping With The CEO -
Chapter 160: Write It Down
Chapter 160: Write It Down
Originally, Emily’s plan had been to start writing her list of rules at work and finish it there.
But somehow, she had stared at her computer until it had come time for her to knock off. Not a single word written there. She had left the office without even saying goodbye to Derek, feeling as though she had failed somehow because despite being the one to come up with the need for a list in the first place, she had been struggling to write something down.
But as it turned out, the reason that Emily could not come up with anything was not because she did not have any ideas in mind. It seemed that her problem had not been a lack of what to write, but rather the fact that she was nervous, and the presence of Derek in the other room had not been helping matters at all.
The moment that she had left Haven Group Headquarters, ideas had started forming in her head. Once she had finally found a place to sit, she began to write. Not even bothered by the fact that she was writing, what was most probably the most important document in her life, while seated at a public bus stop next to a crying baby. Her first rule was something simple.
Rule number one: We do not talk about our sleeping arrangement to anyone under any circumstances. It is not something to be shared at all. Emily, finished up and stared at the words. That felt like a good enough place to start.
It had been hard enough for her to tell him about her sleeping problem, and she knew that it must have been hard for him to share with her as well. So it made sense that even though the two of them had shared with each other, it should be explicitly written out that sharing the information with other people was strictly forbidden.
Thinking on what rule number two could be, Emily tapped the pen that she was writing with against her lip, trying to get the thoughts together. To form them into something that she could write out on paper.
Thinking of something she put the pen back onto the paper and began to write.
Rule number two: Sobriety is a must
She was not just going to assume that at any point in time Derek would not try to bring in some form of alcohol. After all, it was what a lot of people did after a hard day of work. They would maybe grab a bottle of wine to unwind, or have a cold beer, or maybe some whiskey. Emily was not for that at all.
Alcohol had a tendency to leak from the pores, and the smell rarely bothered the drinker, but the person within the company of the drinker was the one who suffered the most. Emily did not want to be that person. And not only that, whenever there was alcohol or drugs, though she knew for a fact that Derek was not into any of those, but whenever intoxicants were involved. Things tended to get out of hand and people often did things that they regretted. At the end of the day Derek was her boss. They might have been going to sleep with each other to see if they solved each other’s sleeping problems. But there had to be a line of professionalism kept even if the situation was very unprofessional.
After the seriousness of rule number two, when it came to rule number three, Emily came up with something that was mostly based on a phobia of hers. But as far as Emily was concerned, it did not even count as a phobia. It was just using common sense.
Rule number three: No eating in bed.
Just thinking of herself trying to lay down, and sleep, while Derek right next to her munched on something crunchy, had Emily’s brow furrowing. Just the thought of the constant grinding got on her nerves. It made Emily get annoyed over a scenario that had not even happened, and was not likely to happen seeing as she was writing down a rule to ensure that.
But the no eating rule was not just because of the loud noises that came with eating. It was also a hygiene factor. She could just imagine all of the ants that would have a field day with crumbs and the like that fell on the sheets. All because somebody was nasty enough to eat in bed. With a shudder, Emily bolded the words no eating several times to make sure that her point got across. For rule number four, she did not know any proper way to phrase it, so she just wrote down what she was thinking.
Rule number four: What is yours is yours, and what is mine is mine.
It might have sounded like something that belonged in a prenuptial agreement, but Emily did not mean it like that at all. In fact, she was not even talking about material things. Instead, when she said what is mine is mine and what is yours is yours, Emily meant in terms of lifestyle. Even though the two of them would now be sharing more than one aspect of their life, that did not mean that they automatically got access to the rest of each other’s lives. In fact, quite the opposite. They now had to have more walls up in place to make sure that they only shared with each other what they wanted. That it was perfectly clear that they did not do things like checking in with one another, or having to meet the parents or going out on dates or things like that. This was not a romantic relationship. It was purely for health reasons. So they had to stress that fact from the very beginning.
And then of course there came rule number five. Rule number five was more about being considerate to one another. That was how Emily saw it.
Rule number five: If you want to end the arrangement, say it well in time.
There was nothing worse than being blindsided. Knowing herself, Emily did not think that if sleeping with Derek worked out for her, she would be changing things anytime soon. But if he found some other alternative or figured that it was not working out for him, she wanted to be told in advance that things were going to end instead of being caught off guard.
It was sort of like that thing where some people thought that the best place to break up was in a restaurant. And not just any restaurant, but one which was known for being the place that people went to when they wanted to ask their significant others to marry them. Emily was not a fan of that at all. If you were going to end things, you would tell her and tell her far away from people and at least give her a heads up first, send a message saying we need to talk. Everybody knew what that meant. It meant that things were well and truly over.
She would rather have that, than be shocked in public or at a time when she thought that things were going really well. Having just finished the last rule, Emily looked up and the bus was pulling in.
As a finishing touch, she signed the bottom of the list with her name and last name, Emily Molson. She put a little heart at the end, just because she could.
Job done, Emily boarded the bus and headed home.
