Sleeping With The CEO
Chapter 124: Work Calls

Chapter 124: Work Calls

After the nerve wrecking encounter with his uncle, where he had just barely been able to throw the man off his scent. Derek had known that he had to handle the situation with Emily and he had to handle it fast. But it seemed that somewhere out there, some higher power had looked at his plans and laughed.

Back when Derek had not been thinking of apologizing to Emily. Back when he had been visiting the diner because he had missed her. There had been absolutely nothing that had been stopping him from going to the diner whenever he had wanted. The only limit that he’d had on when he went there, and how many times he went, had been himself. He had often stayed late at the office so that he did not look too eager to see her. If Derek ever happened to run into his past self, he was pretty sure that he would knock past Derek down with an uppercut to the cheek.

Clearly his past self needed to be taught a lesson. He’d had the chance to see Emily whenever he wanted and he had blown it.

Now Derek really found himself missing that time. The first night when he had missed an opportunity to see Emily. It had been because he was being a coward, playing games when he should have just gone to the diner and apologised to her. When he got held up on the second night Derek had not minded as much, thinking that by the third night, he would be able to go see her, no problem.

But his assumptions turned out to be his undoing.

Thursday night was supposed to be a good night. After all, he had nothing planned for that evening. So it should have been as easy as pie to be able to go see Emily and apologise to her. But that was not how things were working out for him. It was Thursday evening, and rather than being at his office, or in his car on his way to see Emily, Derek was seated in his private jet, looking outside as the plane ascended to the sky.

He watched until the lights of the city completely faded from view. But even then, he did not stop looking outside, into the darkness of the night. He was not really seeing anything his mind far away, his thoughts racing. But no matter how fast they went, they went round and round the same thing.

Emily.

After the encounter with his uncle, it had become even more important than ever to get in touch with her. But it seemed that, that would have to wait a little while longer.

Word had come in that a client that Derek had personally signed, was slowly being poached away by a rival. And Derek had to be the one to step in. He had to go see them personally to make sure that they understood what would come with that action. And it had to be him. Since he, as the CEO had brought them on, he had to be the one to cut them off. But, the catch was that they were in a different city. So once more, there would be no Emily. And Derek just hated it.

On the outside he might have looked calm, but internally, he was seething. He did not care whether the client left or whether they stayed but what really bothered him was the disrespect. If he let something like this slide, then others would take note. They would think that they could just walk out on deals with Haven Group. Do as they pleased and there would be no repercussions.

So there was only one thing for it. Derek had to use the client as an example, to let everybody out there know not to mess with him.

The jet reached its destination just after ten in the evening. Derek did not even have a moment of rest upon arrival. He was instantly headed to one of the top restaurants in the city. Once he made it to the restaurant, the rumours that’d had him flying out so late, were proven to be true.

The client was in a private room, a room that Derek had been led to by the terrified manager. Across from him, was a representative of Olaf Group, a rival of Haven Group’s. Between them there was an array of food and whatever it was that they were discussing, it must have gone well, because the champagne had already been opened. No doubt they were toasting stabbing Derek in the back. Not letting any surprise show, Derek simply walked in.

The Olaf group representative was the first to see him. The woman instantly paling. Her expression must have given him away because the client looked over his shoulder. And when he did and saw Derek, he paled just like the woman. Not in the mood to hear any excuses. Derek sat down between them and grabbed a grape from the platter.

"I will save both of you the trouble of trying to lie to me," Eating the grape, he reached into his briefcase and pulled out some paperwork "Here, sign this," He handed the documents over to the now shaking man.

"Not only will you be terminating the contract with Haven Group, you will also be agreeing to pay three times the amount for breaking the contract in the first place,"

The client opened his mouth, ready to argue. But Derek was not having it.

"It is a small price to pay considering that if you don’t, I will make sure you never, ever, do business in this country again. And even if you try to go abroad, no one will touch you. So the choice is yours, pay a small amount of money and keep going about your business, or don’t pay and see what happens,"

As he was saying this, Derek was looking directly at the Olaf Group representative. The woman looked as though she wanted to hide under the table. But Derek was unbothered by her fear.

The two of them were responsible for him missing out on seeing Emily, he would be certain to make sure that they did not enjoy their time either.

"As for you, madam. Tell this to the CEO of Olaf..."

"If this is how he does business... then all is fair game," Derek said and left it at that. There were quite a few clients of Olaf’s, that Haven group had been eyeing for a while.

Out of professional courtesy Derek had not gone after them. But since Olaf Group, had taken professional courtesy out of the equation. Everything was fair game. And when Haven went after something they wanted. They got it. Olaf was in for a tough time.

By the time he left the little dinner table, the papers were signed and he was feeding on yet another grape. It should have been a joyful experience. Afterall, he had just made a boatload of money in the space of a few seconds, but he could not bring himself to feel joy. How could he celebrate? It was yet another night where he would not be seeing Emily. It was now a Friday morning and she was probably getting ready to go home.

Boarding his private jet once more. Derek was ready to go home. But he did not feel excited at the prospect. Things should have been settled by now. But instead he was busy running around, putting out fires that he did not start...again. He really hoped that Friday brought something different. Given his luck, he wasn’t holding his breath. But he’s still hoped.
