Sleeping With The CEO -
Chapter 119: Mousy Rat
Chapter 119: Mousy Rat
Derek’s very first plan on what to do early in the morning. Which had been to apologize to Emily, had not worked out. In fact it had been shot out of the sky, and blown to smithereens before it could even take shape. All because he had dawdled, wasting time that he did not have. By the time he had finally decided that it was time to act . It had been too late Emily had already gone home.
It was a fixable mistake.
He could just go back to the diner that night, see Emily, and apologize like he had intended to do earlier that morning. But knowing that fact did absolutely nothing to are alleviate his bad mood, and Derek was letting everyone have it. The smallest things that he usually let go were just bugging him so much.
And he was not mincing words when it came to voicing his displeasure. Intertwining his fingers together, Derek looked at the PA before him.
"Tell me did you pass first grade?" The PA nodded and Derek did not try to hide his scoff.
"Really, I doubt it. I bet that even back then you were dumber than bricks. So stupid that you had to bribe teachers to get by. And quite frankly I believe that even here, there had to have been under the table handshakes going on the day Haven Group hired you. There is just no way an imbecile like you made it to Haven Group as a PA without bribery being involved," The PA before him trembled, looking as though she was either about to wet herself or pass out on the spot. But Derek was unbothered.
It was a simple thing that he had asked them to do.
"Arrange my schedule well so that I can be well prepared for my meetings, simple," But the girl had somehow managed to mess everything up. Leaving Derek and the other PAs to scramble around trying to arrange things last minute without overbooking him. All of this done without a single helpful input from her. And now she had the audacity to cry.
She should have saved the waterworks for someone else. Or maybe for a Derek Haven who was having a good day. As things stood, he was unmoved, her tears having absolutely no effect on him. In fact, he doubted that they would have had an impact even if he’d been in a good mood. Crying was definitely not her best look. Her face had gone red and blotchy, snot and tears mingling as they ran down her face. It was rather disgusting.
And that was not the only thing. There was just something about the mousy woman that rubbed Derek the wrong way. From the day she had been introduced, to even that very moment. Something about her just made Derek feel on edge. Something about her just constantly rubbed him the wrong way, and to add on top of that, she had just made a huge mistake.
"I do not know who your boss is, and I do not care. Just go back to them, and stop bothering me with your presence," He told her.
She continued to stand there for a few seconds. Then finally seemed to get the message, turned around and left as quickly as her feet would carry her. It would be difficult, operating with one less PA. Especially since the team was already suffering. But Derek was not feeling the least bit bad to have her out of his team. Something about her energy had just put him on edge. And now that he knew she was gone for good, it was easier for him to breathe. He also felt as though he had saved himself quite a few headaches in the future, by getting rid of the girl.
But in getting rid of her, Derek had still not solved his biggest problem.
The Emily problem.
The situation with her was really something else. For the first time in his life, he was running from a problem without even having tried to solve it first. He was making excuses, second guessing himself. All things that had been foreign to him until the situation with her.
He had literally cost himself a golden opportunity to apologize because he had been stalling.
He had to make things right with her.
Emily was really something else. He had to find a way to take the issue head on without wasting time. He had already missed and obvious opportunity, he could not afford to do that again. Leaning back in his chair, Derek wondered what Emily was thinking at that very moment.
She was probably out there believing that he had just been using her for muffins and tea. Or worse. What if she was not thinking of him at all. What if she had brushed off his absence as just another customer not showing up.
What if that was how she saw him, as just another one of her regular customers. And rather than fixate on his absence she had just dismissed it. Completely unbothered like he was just a random person instead of someone that she had worked closely with for two years.
The thought stung, and it served to amplify Derek’s headache.
With his sleeping problem. He was used to his head, and his body being in some form of pain. But ever since the whole thing with Emily had begun, they just felt worse somehow.
Reaching for the remote, Derek closed the blinds. Instantly plunging the office in darkness. Being in the dark did not make his head hurt less, but it did give his eyes a break. Tilting his head back, Derek breathed deep, trying to get all of the tension out of him. He had not even managed at least thirty minutes of sleep the night before, and it was wearing him down.
Breathing in and out, he tried to reach a zen like state.
Unbeknownst to him, the very PA that he had just kicked out was doing something strange. Instead of going down to supplies where she was the Chief of Supplies’ PA. She stayed on the upper levels. Heading instead to the office of one Sebastian Haven.
The last time, she had only managed to bring meeting notes. And now she was bringing news that she would no longer be able to monitor the CEO directly.
Needless to say, Anna was shaking in her heels. Rightfully so. She had just endured one angry Haven, and now she was going to deal with another.
Sure enough, when she left Sebastian Haven’s office five minutes later, she was crying even harder. And she did not even have the money that she had been promised for spying.
Regretting every choice she had ever made, Anna limped her way to Supplies. At least she still had a job, she consoled herself.
With her salary she would be able to finish off her brother’s gambling debts in a hundred years. And that was if she stopped eating and paying rent. Maybe if she tried hard enough, she would be able to bag a sugar daddy.
Already plotting again, Anna went about the rest of her day trying to figure out how to make a quick buck.
