Sleeping With The CEO -
Chapter 113: Worth It
Chapter 113: Worth It
There was really no amount of money that could have ever paid for the service that Emily had given him when she had been his official PA. As the days wore on, Derek was realizing that more and more. In the weeks since she had left, he had fired a lot of people, a whole lot. But now as he looked at the current predicament that he was in. Derek had to admit defeat. Afterall, CEO or not, it would be over kill if he fired other people’s personal assistants too.
If one PA forgot a file he could understand. But how did a combined group of PAs lose notes to a meeting, and not even notice until he asked for them.
He watched the men and women as they ran around the conference room. Everybody looking for them, some of them on the phone. Asking people from other branches if they had happened to see such a file. The fact that even the soft copy was nowhere to be found was just icing on the cake for Derek, incompetence at its best. They were running helter skelter, looking for it. None of them was taking responsibility, and none of them was actually doing anything to solve the problem, it was so infuriating.
"Stop," Derek said softly, and all movement stopped immediately. Multiple pairs of wide eyes fixing on him. Pinching the bridge of his nose. Derek shut his laptop and got up from his seat
One mousy looking PA jumped up at the sudden move, he ignored her. She was the type that shook like a leaf at the sight of anything, even her own shadow. If he sighed he bet that she would faint. But she was not his concern.
"I do not care how you do it, or what you have to do to get it done, but by Monday morning I want those notes on my desk. If not ,well, you do not wish to find out what will happen," If he were being honest, nothing would happen to them really, just a bit of tongue lashing from him. But it seemed that his reputation for firing people on the spot, had earned him some unwarranted fear. He wanted to tell them to relax that he was not going to fire them. But then, he thought better of it. That might just make them not look as hard as they could for the file. so he let them stew in their fear. No doubt it would be a very bad couple of hours for them.
After making sure that they were all suitably terrified, Derek grabbed his laptop, and left the conference room. The level of noise going through the roof the moment he closed the door. Great, now they were pointing fingers and blaming each other. Looking at the door he wondered if he should go back in, and tell them to keep it down, but he decided to let it go.
At first when he had walked out of the room he had intended to go back to his office, but now that he was outside of all the noise. He realized that it would be a bad call. His plan for the rest of the day had been to go over the meeting notes, and make sure he had not missed anything, but with that ruined, it felt like his schedule was thrown off.
Rather than force himself to work when he was not in the mood, and be more likely to make mistakes, he headed for the elevators instead of his office.
He made it all the way to his car before he realized that leaving would be a mistake. While at work, his mind remained busy. He did not have to think about Emily. But once he was on his own, with nothing to keep him occupied. There would be no stopping his mind from running a mile a minute and then some. No matter what he did, all thoughts would inevitably lead back to her.
But, by the time he had that thought, he was already in the car so he started it up, and headed home as he had originally intended.
Once at the penthouse he lazed around, a bowl of peach slices on his chest as he lay down on the soft carpet, eating the soft fruit half heartedly. Every once in a while, he worked up the energy to throw a piece of fruit in to his mouth and chew it. But after swallowing, he would take a while to go after the next one, just staring up at the ceiling....thinking.
I wonder what she is doing? Is she at home resting after a hard night of work.
Or maybe she’s wide awake getting ready for yet another night of work. Chewing on another slice , Derek settled down, only to rise up seconds later. What if she was not at home at all? What if she had gotten a call from one of her co-workers, asking her to step in for them because they would not be able to make it. What if she was currently right at work that moment doing the day shift, instead of the night? What if he went in later that night, and she was not there? The thought actually had him breaking out in a cold sweat. He had to ball his hands into fists to stop himself from getting up, getting into his car, and dashing off towards the diner.
"Breathe, just breathe Derek, she will be there. She will be there tonight, there’s no need for you to get yourself worked up," But even as he told himself that, he could not get the tension to leave him. So he ended up going to the rooftop pool and dipping his feet in the water.
When that got boring, he dived in full body, and went for a swim. This one leisurely instead of punishing, and after an hour or so he stopped, laying on a lounge chair to recover. Despite having left the office with the intent of leaving work behind, he ended up going to his study, and going through a few contracts that Haven was currently considering. The work was not difficult, but it required a lot of his attention and so he dug in and began going through document after document. The next time he looked up, he was shocked to see that it was half past one in the morning, he had almost missed his chance to see Emily. Closing everything up, Derek got in his car, and made his way to the diner.
He saw her through the window before he actually got inside and the way his heart unclenched, and his whole body just relaxed should have been illegal. But just the sight of her was enough for him to feel like all the pressures of the day. All the rage that he had felt, was nothing.
And what made the drive to the diner while worth it was when Emily saw him. The smile that lit up her face causing Derek’s own to light up with a smile.
"Good morning sir, and what will you be having today" She asked, and Derek felt as though she had said the sweetest thing to him
