Chapter 62: First Ticket
Chapter 62: First Ticket
The turtle boss had two phases.
In the first phase, it sent out waves of water crashing at the attackers, trying to weaken them and push them away.
At around half health, the turtle hid in its shell and began moving around the entire field, sliding across on top of the water. One needed to see in advance where they were going to be in order to dodge.
Jax had placed a Poison loop around the turtle’s body right from the start, so he had an easy way of chipping into the boss’s health. And from what Jax could tell, even changing phases did not help it get rid of that at all.
Now, all Jax really had to do was dodge around and wait for the turtle to die on its own. As the turtle was continuously being hurt by the poison, even with its head and limbs inside the shell, it could not stop taking damage.
All Jax really had to do was dodge the attacks that came for him. Since he had nothing to attack the moving turtle with, he could only rely on the Poison thread for it to kill the beast.
It took a while before the turtle was too tired to move around as it reached death’s door. And then, a soft white light shined from it, while at the same time, Jax heard a notification.
<Congratulations! You have defeated the Boss Monster ’Swamp Turtle’>
A few things appeared before him at that moment.
<You have received 15 Opal Stones>
<You have received 3 Mud Opal Stones>
<You have received ’Soft Shell Tunic’>
Jax quickly grabbed the opal stones and placed them in the inventory. He grabbed the Mud stones next and looked at them carefully. They were dull brownish in color and looked quite unappealing.
However, the fact that they were Navi stones with elemental Navi in them was quite exciting.
He scratched his head a little, trying to remember what he was taught. "Mud... that is the mixture of Water and Earth. Gemma said it was a hybrid element, but I wonder if I can absorb it to unlock my Earth threads since it has Earth elements in it as well."
He wanted to check right away.
However, he instead looked at the other item he had received from killing this boss. It was the black tunic with simple designs on the back like a turtle shell. The material was quite strong and defensive. However, looking at the surface of it, Jax didn’t see anything he could call a rune.
This was most likely something without a rune. It was just simple clothing that was physically strong enough to be a treasure.
Jax intended to wear it immediately, but he placed it aside as he watched the rectangular crystalline object slowly float down before him.
The white ticket with a 1-Star mark on it lay before Jax, a prize for his victory. He grabbed it, and the moment he did, he could hear many things in his mind.
<Congratulations! You have received a ’1-Star Ticket’>
<Congratulations! You have passed the ’Unending Maze’>
<A Ticket can be used to leave the trial right away. Upon using it, you will receive rewards based on the grade of the ticket used.>
<Would you like to leave the ’Unending Maze’?>
Jax thought for a split second before coming to the conclusion on what decision it was that he had to make. In fact, he had made the decision before even arriving at this place.
He would stay.
As soon as Jax made the decision, the notification changed.
<In order to enter the Boss Rooms in other parts of the maze, you must give up your current ticket in order to enter>
<Would you still like to stay?>
Jax was taken aback slightly. He hadn’t expected to have to give away a ticket in order to enter the other boss rooms. Was gaining a ticket not an actual guarantee?
Upon thinking further about it, it made sense. If one was allowed to use their ticket whenever they wanted, they could all just get a 1-Star ticket and go around hunting higher tickets until they found at least a 3-Star ticket.
That would not just remove the difficulty of the trial by having a safety net below anyone doomed to fail, but also allow someone to hoard tickets while others got nothing.
Jax looked at the white 1-Star ticket one last time and decided he was going to stay nonetheless. The notifications disappeared.
He placed the ticket away for now, but instead of going into his Inventory, it disappeared to another place instead. It settled itself in the Tickets category.
Jax quickly opened the Tickets category and saw what was written inside.
[Tickets]
10th Carriage: 1-Star
Upon looking at it, he knew he could learn more about it, so he further expanded those words.
1-Star Ticket: This Ticket will give you a common variety of gift when you arrive at the next carriage. You may also move back to the previous carriage temporarily.
Jax didn’t like that a 1-Star ticket would give him a simple gift according to that information. He wanted something far better.
"I’ll have to go find a better one for sure," Jax thought. But before that, he needed to rest. He climbed atop the dead turtle’s back and sat cross-legged atop the hard surface.
He also needed to absorb Navi at the same time, and since he had the Mud Navi stones, he decided to use them immediately. He took out the Mud stones again and began using them.
Soon, a dull brownish thread began piling up atop the turtle’s back, which Jax planned on using as the mattress of his sleep later. He felt one of the threads and was a little surprised to feel its texture.
It wasn’t exactly moist, but it felt liquid. Piling up next to him, it felt like mud more than actual threads. Jax wasn’t sure if he could actually sleep atop it later on.
He continued piling them up nonetheless, using his Navi absorption skill to absorb all three of the Mud Stones.
As he feared, just like with the Earth stones, these ones didn’t help him unlock another element either.
