Chapter 27: What The Morrow Holds
¤●¤
William was in a tight spot... in which he had no idea why he wanted her to speak more, he always prefers his silence and solitude with his books and maps, even when Sophia tends to give him a headache he knows how to deal with it... but this was different there was no dealing with anything, this was just a subconscious urge to hear her voice more, it was tiny and soft and new to him, like a mystery and a round of questions.
Like how would her voice be when she’s happy, sad, or angry, or what it would sound like when she raised her voice, how would it change in tone?
He has only known his late mentor’s voice, Basker, to boom dully like an old man whenever he talks.
Severus one of his creations... to be amused ever since he obtained a human body, and there was Elvenia who has a stoic voice, and Sophia who was always pouting to his ears. Ava was simply different, everything that came out of her mouth was a question and she didn’t seem to know how to speak properly... seems like there was more work in his hands not that he was complaining.
"What is... m-mae?"
Her sudden voice caught his attention like it was a soft rhythm being played.
"Mae?" he was puzzled.
"Maet"
"You mean Mate"
"Y-Yes"
He caught her cheeks heated and her heartbeat was pounding once again, it seems to be the only thing he hears whenever there was silence, he would randomly measure each tone of her heartbeat, and each time they would pick up as well as go back to normal, the steady beating.
"You will learn about that in due time" he answered simply for there was nothing to be said now, she has only just heard about what she truly is and came through a shock that caused her to do something as silly as running. Sometimes he wonders what plays in that head of hers or if it was just an impulse action. Maybe it was.
"Now" he began straightening back on his seat, it was time to set her straight. He flicked his finger and by his will, the chair she sat on floated upwards, panic filled her dim brown eyes as they went wide like saucers, she held onto the arms of the chair for her dear life as the chair slowly levitated to him and settled beside him gently.
Her heartbeat skyrocketed now and it became so loud he had to suppress his hearing a little. Why does her heartbeat always cause such a nuisance?
"Your punishment shall begin tomorrow, I want you to prepare for it"
Her gaze trembled and they were just glued on his face, the fear was back again. And it got him curious again.
"Do you think I intend to kill you?"
"W-Will you kill me?" she whispered, her voice was so low, if he hadn’t enhanced hearing he wouldn’t have been able to hear a thing from her.
He leaned toward her and she leaned back on her seat but that didn’t stop their faces from being inches apart.
"What use will you be to me when you’re dead?"

The next morning came like it was begging for it, begging for me to be punished quickly, I haven’t had a wink of sleep last night. How would I be able to sleep when I don’t know what awaits me? It didn’t come without my noisy thoughts and even eating was a problem for me, I can’t stomach anything at all.
My legs were shaky as Elvenia led me to the Library, I held the wall for support to steady myself. I should be somewhat grateful that it was a punishment that won’t lead to my death. William told me last night I will not be of use to him if I’m dead so I knew death was not something that will happen any time soon, but should I believe him?
I heard the doors open and I knew it was my cue to step inside and so I did nervously as ever as the door slammed shut behind me. I was brought back to the magical view.
I just made my way to the path that led to William’s office, rubbing my sweaty palms on my skirt. William came into view and I seemed tense now. I was a little relaxed because Severus was there too with a usual smile on his lips and his hand behind his back. I was glad I didn’t have to be alone with William.
I stood before his table. William was seated like a king on his chair. I could tell his eyes were on me even though I couldn’t see them.
"Morning Ava, did you sleep well?"
I couldn’t resist frowning, was he really asking me that right now?
"Severus you shall lead Ava towards her punishment," he waved off like our mere presence disturbed him and I frowned deeper.
I thought HE was going to handle my punishment but it seemed like he didn’t have time for that. I continued to stare at him as William went through some scrolls like none of us was there.
"Young Miss"
I turned to Severus who smiled at me. "This way"
He led me to a particular shelf and he handed me a rooster with ink writing on it.
"This is the catalog for this particular shelf"
I stared at the rooster and then at the shelf that looked smaller than the others and didn’t reach the insanely tall ceiling. It was just a normal shelf but it was wider than usual with books filling every corner of it.
"As per your punishment young miss, the Master said you should finish all books here within a month"
I gasped and turned my wide eyes to him. What did he just say? I looked at the rooster and saw the book number.
There are a Hundred and fifty books here!
