Chapter 25: Playing With Fire {1}

"Now... What shall your punishment be? For lying to me"

He wants to punish me for lying. My brain couldn’t process that solely because of his hand gripping my chin and it made me uncomfortable because of the fact that my body was reacting to it in ways I didn’t like. The warmth it gave to my skin made me crave more of it.

His words have left chaos in my brain. I was in total confusion but my body had my guard on, no matter how I told myself I should have starved back in that cell and rid myself of this fate as a fairy, I knew... I couldn’t do it. There was an unknown spark in my body that kept telling me to survive, survive? To what end? Was it worth it? I have a high-worth one I do not want because I know the consequences of it. I could be struck dead by him before I could even blink.

I felt like I was trapped on the edge of a mountain with no choice left other than to jump. But now in my head and senses, I want to get out of his grip and bear my strength for myself, for I knew my punishment will be an ugly one, so I reacted as I chose to, it might be stupidity but for the first time, I was standing up for myself.

I placed my two palms on his chest and gave a strong push causing him to take a step backward. I do not know if it was by my strength or solely because he moved but nevertheless, I was free and my legs acted next, and then my eyes.

Finding a small space between the shelves I fled to it and the next thing I knew was... I was running without having a flick of where I was going. But I didn’t care, I just kept telling myself to run, anything at all, as long as I do not have to be near HIM.

I made several turns in the maze of the curvy shelves and it felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere but I didn’t stop, and more importantly, the boots I had on were making my legs hurt so I paused quickly and took them off in a swift move.

My bare feet found the floor and I feel alive and re-energized to run again. I was panting just halfway through and my brain got alarmed again. I turned even though it was brief and I found relief when I realized he hadn’t caught on yet. Was he even chasing me?

I turned to focus on my path but I slammed a wall, more importantly, I slammed someone and I dropped to the ground.

"Young Miss!"

That voice I recognize... Severus squatted where I was and I raised my head to him.

"Are you alright why are you running, young miss?" he asked amused but worry laid in his eyes.

I panted, unable to find my voice.

"You should be with the master right at this time" He leveled his gaze and found I was bare feet. "Is something wrong? I can-" he paused before he could say anything else.

I gasped when I noticed his hazel eyes gleaming, there was a long pause and then a smile found his lips. He rose to his feet and then he bowed to me.

"Forgiving me for intruding," he says and I blinked. What was he talking about?

"Severus"

I froze where I was, not daring to turn back, at that aura and voice. It was William!

"Master" Severus said bowing with a smile still on his lips. "I shall excuse the both of you," he said respectfully and turned on his heels and walked again, with each of his steps further away the louder my heartbeat.

I forced my body up and stood but I didn’t dare turn behind for I was scared of what I might see.

"Ava, why are you running when you know you can’t get far?" he said as something reasonable and I was once again reminded of my stupidity.

Hearing his footsteps coming from behind, my body shook.

"No matter how far you run Ava, I will always catch you," he says directly to my ears, his mere presence was like a black hole behind my back, ready to sink me in at any minute.

I gripped my skirt tightly and twirled... if its death then let it come quick and swift, but instead it wasn’t as intense, he didn’t look like he would try anything but at the other end it didn’t look like he was angry... he’s... calm?

"Are you that eager to get away from punishment or..." he tilted his head to the side. "Are you that afraid of me?"

"You’re..." I paused checking if I could pronounce the word well but I just let myself say it. "...a warlock"

I gasped when he grabbed my wrist and yanked me to him and briefly brushed his body but it was just a slight touch that caused my brain to go numb. "No little one, I’m something more dangerous"

My eyes trembled at his words. This was getting worse... and one question merely numbed my brain. Is there something more dangerous than a warlock?

"W-What a-are you?"

He said nothing and we just stared in the dark silence, my eyes continued to tremble, and I wasn’t given any answer to my question

"You have wasted my time today, I understand you might have an interest in a hide-and-seek game but I’m a busy man" he came off all of a sudden.

And I frowned slightly. "T-This is not hide and s-seek", he avoided my question and said another thing. I have a feeling he didn’t wanna give me an answer to that particular question and it made me even more suspicious of him as if the blank mask wasn’t enough.

"Master you called"

I paused when I heard Elvenia, how did she get here?

"Take Ava for a bath, she must be exhausted..." He let me go and I rubbed my wrist keeping my eyes on him. "... from running," he added.

"Of course Master. Young miss this way"

I remained still not attempting to move from my spot, he tilted his head to the side once more. I said nothing as I turned on my heels and followed Elvenia.

But all the way until we were out of sight I knew William kept his stare on me. I could strangely feel it.
