Chapter 148: The Union Ceremony
Chapter 148: The Union Ceremony
I stood before the leaf-shaped mirror, my dull eyes on my reflection, and the maids working on my white slender gown, walking around me as they made sure I was perfect, perfect for a Union ceremony, a union that would forever bind me to Aldon.
Everything just seems to work slowly in my peripheral vision, everything was just slow, why my existence was lost to the world and all I just had was my mind only. I didn’t feel as if the maids worked on my hair or when I even wore my gown or when they bathed me, I was nonexistent to what was happening to me. Maybe if the world burned I wouldn’t feel it.
"Your Highness"
There is an echoing voice but I didn’t listen to it, just the voice in my head thinking about what I have to endure after this Union.
"Your Highness"
To be with a man I have no amount of feelings for. All for the sole purpose of keeping a balance.
"Your Highness"
Because fate is already written about my destiny, a destiny bound to Aldon’s, even if I didn’t want it. Nothing can ever change that, I have no power or control over it, this was all because of a promise we made millennia ago when we were just energies born to the Isle of Pathways.
"Your Highness"
I instantly met my gaze with Adina finally breaking out of my mind and reality was coming back to me, she looked at me with a worried expression before blinking and offering me a smile.
"You look beautiful," she says and I saw nothing but respect and adoration in her eyes but I didn’t return it as I stared back at the mirror, wanting nothing more than to be lost in my senses, I cannot do this with a sane mind.
Even as I gazed upon the goddess staring back at me, everything was complete and perfect, my amber hair decorated with white roses and a crown of them around my head. I was beautiful and perfect and it should get anyone beaming with joy, but I cannot nothing excited me about today, only fear and pain gripped my bones.
"Are you not happy, your highness?" she came behind me and I inhaled sharply. "You should be happy, you get to spend eternity with the one you love" She looked to be thinking why I was cheerily about the occasion and that I should be.
"I do not love him" I mumbled.
From the mirror, I saw her expression fall at her words, I wasn’t sure if she heard me or not but it didn’t matter, she was about to say something but I spoke first.
"I had a dream..." I began hoping to change the talk and also suddenly remembering what I experience in a time of life and death, I could still hear her giggles and it haunted me, not in a bad way but in a way I couldn’t explain, I wanted to see her again, to hear her heartfelt laughter that somehow brought joy to my heart, something I never thought I would experience.
The picture of her beautiful amber hair and her eyes that were a mixture of green and vermillion.
"A dream?"
"Yes "
"You feel it has some meaning?" She asked, walking to me until she was behind but I could still see her. I admired how beautiful she looked in her purple slender gown, made of velvet material.
"Yes," I blinked.
"Maybe it’s trying to tell you something, you know dreams are powerful, and sometimes it’s not just about a depiction of your life. In your case your highness your eyes see many things, it is one of your unique abilities"
I knew that already, that is why I cannot stop thinking about it, it was meaning to something, a meaning that was enough to stop me from taking away my memories.
I realized my elven powers, I had the eyes to see things but I was told it would take time to manifest just as my powers... to take away memories.
I said nothing as I kept my eyes on the mirror, inhaling deep breaths and closing my eyes, any minute now the Union will commence.
Can I really go through this?
"Your Highness?"
Suddenly I heard the bells and I knew it was a signal that the ceremony was about to start, my nerves spiked and I couldn’t stop shaking. I told myself to hold it together but I cannot.
Even as I walked to the venue, accompanied by Adina and five elven soldiers, my feet were heavy, dragging me down like they had become too heavy to walk with. The constant pounding of my heart only increased in beat when I saw Aldon standing at the altar with a priest behind.
Dressed in white attire, he smiled the moment his gaze locked, he looked at me like I was a rare sight to behold but I didn’t reciprocate it, the only man I will look upon that way is my lost love.
Aldon doesn’t deserve any bit of my feelings.
I was distracted when Adina handed me a bunch of roses and walked to her seat, I turned back to the aisle waiting for me to walk through, just as the choir started vocalizing a song in elven language and I knew it was my cue to go forward.
But I remained stapled where I was, I couldn’t move and I couldn’t breathe. I was forced to close my eyes and calm myself in some way. Even if I did not want this I cannot back away, it was already sealed and this was nothing but a formality, even if I want to run away the connection to Aldon will only bring me back to him.
I cannot escape this dreadful fate.
I opened my eyes and took a step forward, abandoning my sense of reasoning and allowing my mind to drift far away even though my body was walking toward this cursed fate. I let my mind wander to the time of the Library and visualized William going through the books in the library, his finger lining the shelves as he walked, and I just followed behind with a smile on my lips until he turned and set his enthralling green eyes I fell in love with on me and he gives me a toothy grin that melted my heart.
I was snapped back to reality when Aldon grabbed my hand just as the priest began speaking in elven language.
I didn’t even have it in me to look at Aldon, so I leveled my gaze all through, silently wishing I could just disappear from this moment, that I wasn’t just about to give my life to another man. I have said vows to another.
Vowed to be with him for better or for worse, to love only him, and made a promise to be by his side forever, but I broke everything, I broke his heart, his soul, and his mind, I could still picture his tears as he watches me disappear, as he watches me gone like his entire world was crashing, I crashed his entire world.
I’m the villain in our story
☆Soft Giggles☆
The sound caught my attention and I found myself raising my gaze, but I didn’t look at Aldon... but at the end of the aisle. I saw her, the little girl, with amber hair and vermillion eyes with a mix of green, she stood there as petite as she, no less than five years old, with a bright smile on her lips.
As the wind gushed in and carried her amber eyes and I caught sight of her pointy ears, but that was the least of my concern for what caught my entire focus and dawned on me like a realization was slipping in was the silver ring around her neck held on by a silver chain.
"Aveline"
I snapped my eyes back to Aldon who looked at me with curiosity.
"Say the vows," he says.
I opened my mouth but no words came to me, my eyes were wide as my foolish mind finally understood everything and to prompt everything an unsettling feeling found the way to my throat and I covered my mouth.
Before Aldon could say any more I was already dashing towards the nearest bushes while hearing gasps and murmurs around me.
I threw the bunch of roses and held onto the tree bark and let whatever was hanging in my throat out, dear gods I feel awful and the dizziness of emptying my stomach got to me.
Breathing hard I rose to my full height groaning, before slipping my hands on my chest to my flat belly, I leveled my gaze on it, rubbing it gently.
It can’t be right. It can’t... I have left the Holy Library for 2 years already, it wasn’t possible... and it cannot happ-
I froze as a glow found its way to my finger, with broad eyes I lifted it and found William’s ring which vanished when I left... manifesting around my finger like it was never gone.
