Chapter 424: Chapter 39: Battle Achievement Reward, Heavenly Soul Resides in the Divine Temple! (6K)

The determination of military accomplishments in the Military Realm is comprehensive and involves multiple aspects.

One is the recording artifacts carried by the army units, such as Mirage Pearls which can record who killed which enemy. Soldiers submit them to the non-commissioned officers, who then submit them to the officers, and so on, in a hierarchical reporting process.

Second is the Yin God Statue, also known as the Yisuan Star Lord, which accompanies the army. During combat, the Yisuan Star Lord in the Marching Hall will lead a group of wandering spirits around the battlefield to calculate everyone’s military merits.

Third is direct monitoring by the Military Realm, such as during the Cloud City period when the Military Realm could directly observe every action taken and tally the kills directly.

These three are the main statistical methods.

The speed of calculation is also very fast, with results typically available on the same day.

There are many accomplishments that cannot be directly determined or seen.

For example, when Zhao Xing led his men over Flame Mountain and bombed Round Moon City, how many died? It’s unclear and there is no direct record.

This necessitates time-consuming cross-verification from multiple sources.

Firstly, the spy reports from the Fire Demon Clan at Fire Dragon Pass provide a statement of the situation – spies certainly know how many died on their side.

Secondly, one would request the Rebirth Star Monarch to inspect the remains at the former site of Round Moon City, checking the number of ghosts. In addition, communication with the Yin Realm is necessary to see if the number of foreign ghost souls has increased.

All the above account for military merits obtained from beheadings.

Sabotaging cities, breaking through defenses, and subduing enemies cannot be accurately quantified; these require personal judgment.

The Hundred Soldiers Tower in the Military Realm will use predictions from the Creation Plate to calculate the actions of individuals or units, determine subsequent impacts, cross-check, and then the leaders will reach a recognized opinion and adjust the military merits for each army and individual accordingly.

Therefore, except for the most direct method of judging military accomplishments through beheadings, other achievements can’t be calculated by oneself; one must wait for the results from higher up.

After breaching the city, Zhao Xing stopped after beheading six eighth-grade enemies.

Beheading an eighth-grade enemy scores between one thousand to four thousand points.

As for ninth-grade enemies, they bring in only one hundred to four hundred points.

Mr. Zhao, accustomed to large sums, disdained to squabble with his comrades over these small amounts. After beheading six eighth-grade enemies, he did not pursue further.

There were too many on our side, with tens of thousands of soldiers frantically rushing over the wall and beheading enemies, while the garrison at Fire Dragon Pass, at most, had forty to fifty thousand – not enough for everyone to have a share.

Zhao Xing also didn’t bother beheading ninth-grade enemies because attacking lower grades in such a situation is essentially taking from the soldiers, resulting in the Military Realm significantly reducing the military merit awarded, or in extreme cases, the auditors might not award any merit at all.

Moreover, it would lead to dissatisfaction among the soldiers.

It would be an effort not well appreciated.

"My main accomplishments are still stealing the Earth Fire Lotus, planting the Earth Fire Lotus, and blowing up Round Moon City – those alone account for a lot," Zhao Xing thought.

Zhao Xing washed his face and ordered two Divine Movement Grassmen to leisurely carry him back.

At this time, Liao Rulong, Wen Shaoyang, Xia Jing, and Jiang Ming had already ordered their troops to regroup, with only a small number of units continuing to pursue the enemy.

It was not purely for the sake of pursuit but also to scout the plains inside the pass and prepare for moving toward the Qinggang War Zone.

Now that the commanding officers had been gathered, it was time for individual inquiries and to register some of the achievements that had not been directly calculated.

In the Marching Hall, there was a palpable sense of joy when the congregation had sufficiently gathered.

Liao Rulong began to individually question and verify ’merit points’:

"We were the first to storm South City Pass in this battle, so we deserve the chief merit points for taking the city!"

"Does any our comrades from the allied forces have objections?"

Xia Jing and Jiang Ming shook their heads, indicating no objections.

Indeed, it was Liao Rulong who charged ahead onto South City’s wall first, even drawing the suppression of Yue Hai Sheng, yet enduring the pressure and thereby reducing it on the pass and North City wall.

No one disputed his claim for the ’chief merit points’ for taking the city.

Content, Liao Rulong nodded with satisfaction and saluted toward a certain direction in the Marching Hall, where the scent of sandalwood wafted through the air and the spectral image of Yisuan Star Lord stood amongst the incense smoke.

This was the mutual corroboration between the generals and officers – they would first discuss among themselves to see if there was a consensus to avoid dissatisfaction once the Military Realm’s judgment was pronounced, demanding a review and causing embarrassment.

"Defending Fire Dragon Pass is another point of military accomplishment," Liao Rulong continued.

"The city wall and the Array mechanisms underground were successfully compromised thanks to the Zhenhai Army and the four hidden units. Their great deeds should be acknowledged."

"As per our prior arrangement, since the timing was the same for all actions taken, we will not nitpick the minor differences in timing but will instead look at the impact of the destruction caused."

"We shall leave this matter to the Stars and the judgement of the Military Realm — do you all agree?" Liao Rulong asked.

"Agreed."

"Agreed."

Wen Shaoyang and Jiang Ming were the first to respond.

Xia Jing hesitated for a moment but then nodded: "Agreed."

He had only just learned that Zhao Xing had blown up Round Moon City, causing extremely severe damage to the southern section’s Array.

Liao Rulong, sly as he was, had Zhao Xing’s troops arrive at Fire Dragon Pass earlier, nominally to ’scout ahead.’

This gave the units led by Zhao Xing and Chen Shijie more preparation time than the other three units.

Without those two and a half days to prepare, how could he have managed to create enough Firecrackers to blow up Round Moon City?

What made Xia Jing even more exasperated was that his own double agent was intercepted by Zhao Xing.

Originally, the turncoat should have been his man!

If not for Pang Guangyao’s guidance, just getting over the mountain and finding Round Moon City would have taken extra time.

With Pang Guangyao, they could avoid the patrols in the mountains and also know which routes were safer for troop movement.
