Chapter 267: [266] Tasty and Pretty Fisherman 117 (10 Updates)

Do they not say that when one is unlucky, even drinking water can get stuck between their teeth?

The rain was pouring so heavily that it was difficult to walk, and everyone was eager to reach the nearest town to rest.

But they were unlucky; they encountered an official horse carriage that had overturned due to the slippery road from the rain, and it was the most luxurious one among them.

After the accident, wasn’t the first priority supposed to be rescuing people?

These government officers were clearly escorting an official family; one could tell they were not ordinary people just by the number of officers, house servants, and maids present.

With so many of their own people, they had enough hands for self-rescue, but no, they not only stopped the passing vehicles but also called everyone to help.

The official road was only so wide; their carriages blocked the path. With one overturned and three others remaining, the officers, maids, and servants formed layers around, making it utterly impossible to cross.

Xiao Yu, seeing that these were official people, did not approach because she was really feeling unwell. She had Yaya stop the carriage to wait.

Worried that Yaya would catch a cold, Xiao Yu asked Yaya to take off the outer straw coat and lay it over the horse’s head to shield it slightly from the rain, although it was of little effect, they had to do it conscientiously.

Even though it was summer, catching a cold was easy, and while they were waiting, several more horse carriages arrived at the scene.

Normally, ancient traffic wasn’t congested, but perhaps because of the rain, everyone had sped up and closed in together.

This had resulted in a long queue forming. Fortunately for them, as they had arrived while a line had already formed, when it came time to look for help, they managed to rescue the people without involving them, though the ladies or wives in the carriages seemed to be seriously injured. The soldiers approached one carriage after another asking if there was a doctor.

Xiao Yu, feeling very uncomfortable, did not step forward; first because she was dressed as a man, which was inconvenient if the injured were women; second, dealing with officials could be fatal if not handled carefully; and third, she did not bring a medical kit, and without emergency medicines, it was uncertain whether she could help at all, so she chose to remain silent.

After learning that there was no doctor present, the soldiers left disappointed and hurriedly resumed their journey, which eventually eased the congestion on the road.

However, as they departed, many others were still left at the scene arranging things; though the carriage was pulled up, many items had scattered around.

This time Xiao Yu took over driving the carriage because Yaya was soaked through, and although she felt sorry, she wasn’t foolish. She wore a thin raincoat under the straw coat, protecting her clothes from the rain.

The rain lasted longer than they had anticipated, and after traveling for over an hour, they finally reached a small town. Xiao Yu noticed that the group went straight to the medical facility, but she drove to the inn, only to tragically find out it was fully booked.

Their people could manage by staying in the carriages, but what about the horses? If the horses became tired or sick, it could delay their journey.

Xiao Yu became somewhat anxious, but fortunately, the waiter suggested she ask around in the village outside of town.

Having no other choice, Xiao Yu left the town again. Luckily, the town wasn’t large; after about half an hour’s drive, she saw the vague outlines of a village through the dense mist.

After navigating through the uneven dirt road, they reached the village and she directly knocked on the first house they came across; an old man opened the door.

She immediately greeted him politely and explained their purpose and plight. Upon hearing this, the old man didn’t hesitate to open his door.

"Come in; you can stay at my house for the night."
