Chapter 187: 【186】Tasty and Pretty Fisherman 37 (First Update)
After spring arrived, Xiao Yu cleared a lot of land because the birds on the island were just too numerous. Whatever you planted, they ate, and you couldn’t get rid of all of them even if you tried. They were slightly less devastating than a swarm of locusts passing through, but just as infuriating nonetheless.
Especially since there was no special way to deal with them, the only method was for her to take up a slingshot to hunt birds whenever she had spare time. She had been too weak before, but ever since she had gained strength, she had tied stones to the slingshot. As long as she hit her target, the bird would be either dead or crippled. To master this skill, she had exerted a lot of effort.
In the spring, she planted wheat and rice, as well as cabbage, radishes, and garlic sprouts. She grew everything that her Level allowed.
Because buying seeds required a lot of money, and they couldn’t be saved for the next planting, each batch of seeds was a considerable expense. Later on, apart from grains, she bought seed packages from the Space Supermarket for vegetables and the like. Not only were these seeds cheaper, but they could also be saved for replanting. Most importantly, she had the freedom to plant whatever she wished to eat without restrictions. The only concern was the climate.
The reason why she used the seeds from space for grains was that the grains harvested in this way were the most natural and pollution-free; they truly tasted better than those bought in space.
Although she couldn’t buy corn in the space fields, she managed to get seeds from the supermarket, so she planted dozens of corn, sweet potatoes, potatoes, peanuts, soybeans, and so on.
As long as it suited the current weather, she planted them without worrying about whether she could finish eating the harvest. Whatever was leftover could be sold back to space, essentially making her livelihood selling vegetables.
Now, unless she was going to the seaside, she would immerse herself in the fields, whether in space or outside. She had become quite adept at farming.
Perhaps thanks to the help of Power Pills, her work was greatly aided by her strength, and aside from the occasional backache, she handled everything with ease.
Her days were now quite fulfilling. Since the timing of the tides varied, she would plan her work according to when the tides receded. If the tide went out between ten at night and five in the morning, she wouldn’t go to the seaside. Instead, she would wake up early in the morning, stroll along the beach and the rocks, picking up some snails or crabs along the way.
She now had a habit of setting out fish baskets every day. Sometimes she’d come back to empty baskets, but mostly, she’d have a bountiful catch. After all, this sea area had yet to be touched by humans and was especially rich in resources. She could find anything in those baskets, but the most impressive were sometimes Sea Bream and yellow croaker, with crabs and sea shrimps being the most numerous.
Now she simply steamed the seafood without adding anything because their flesh already contained salt. She avoided consuming extra salt when possible, in the interest of health.
Maybe it was because she had gotten used to not frying food, but she rarely used cooking oil. She relied more on sauces, which were useful for making broths and stewed dishes. If she wanted to avoid the hassle, she’d just use hot pot base for stewing, which made for an even more delicious flavor.
She grew lettuce and Zi Su, both of which could be eaten raw. When she occasionally had barbecue, these two vegetables were perfect for wrapping the meat.
When barbecuing, she would marinate the meat in a special barbecue sauce beforehand. Once it was cooked, she’d sprinkle cumin and chili powder on top, and the fusion of flavors was so good that you could start salivating from several meters away.
As for beef, she could eat two jin by herself, and she ate less pork, with one jin being enough.
All these could be bought from the Space Supermarket, so you see, the departure of those two brothers truly marked the beginning of her paradise in the Human World!
Otherwise, with them here, she wouldn’t have been able to bring out many of these things!
