Chapter 161: 【160】Tasty and Pretty Fisherman 11 (Third Update)
Since most seafood is considered "heating" food, Xiao Ze, who is currently ill, couldn’t eat much, so I stewed him an egg custard and cooked a thick rice porridge for him.
As for the seafood, it was all my treat. After cleaning, I threw them into the pot for a haphazard stew because my little brother was eyeing greedily, so I gave him two sea snails and two scallops, want more? I didn’t dare to give him anymore!
So the poor guy could only watch me eat, continuously praising his sister for being so capable and for having found so much seafood.
Xiao Yu felt guilty because the actual situation was even better. But those needed to be sold for money, so it was tough on him; he wouldn’t be able to think about these before getting better.
I didn’t eat the sea urchin since it needed special handling; I kept it in seawater to eat later when I got hungry at night.
The eggs for my brother were bought from the "space", and I didn’t dare take them out, so I stored them in the warehouse, including the carrots and cabbage I had grown.
Ah, right, the garlic shoots should also be mature by now, so taking the chance to go to the toilet as an excuse, I entered the "space". I first sliced off the garlic shoots with a sharp blade, glanced at the countdown timer and saw a few more hours added on—this was the time I was waiting for the garlic bulbs underneath to mature, so then I exited the "space".
During the growth process of garlic, you need to pull the stalk first; that’s how the garlic bulbs underneath will grow. If you don’t pull out the shoots, they keep growing, and then the garlic bulbs won’t get any bigger.
Noon’s meal allowed me to thoroughly enjoy the seafood. Even though I didn’t add any seasonings, it was still delicious beyond belief.
Xiao Ze’s condition had obviously improved a lot since he woke up this morning, which was quite reassuring for me. As long as there’s improvement, it means it’s not the bubonic plague.
After lunch, I didn’t know what time it was; there was no time for rest, and I continued out with an ax. This time Xiao Ze followed me. I was chopping and he was carrying, speeding up the process a bit.
Ah, our stove was built just outside the cave, hastily assembled from rocks; it was rudimentary and just about functional. Once Xiao Ze had fully regained his strength, we would have to carry some clay back or directly engage in pottery where the clay deposits were. This stuff was tricky to handle; I only knew how it was done, but whether it looked good or was usable at all was hard to say, so there would probably be quite a bit of trial and error.
Busy until it went dark in the afternoon, we returned to the cave in the evening. Xiao Yu wanted to eat some flour-based food, so she bought a bag of flour from the "space"; after all, Xiao Ze didn’t care what kind of food they brought, as long as his sister made it, it would be delicious.
The lifestyle here in the fishing village reminded me a bit of... North Korea, because we brought a small jar of Chili Sauce, a small jar of soybean paste, and homemade soy sauce and kimchi that our mother made, probably because they were too heavy, so we only brought a few small jars.
With flour available, I kneaded some dough. While letting the dough rise, I cut kelp into the big iron pot, sliced open the sea urchin, scooped out its yellow insides, and cracked them into the soup, adding soybean paste and soy sauce in turn, along with a whole carrot, including the top, and some fresh cabbage leaves, then covered the pot to simmer everything together.
Xiao Ze was in charge of tending the fire. He seemed completely disinterested in these kitchen matters. Seeing the carrots and cabbage, he assumed they were brought with us and thought no further. The speech I had prepared was swallowed back down.
After the pot boiled, I tore pieces of dough into the soup. Since Xiao Ze couldn’t take spicy food, I left out the Chili Sauce, but after serving it into my own bowl, I added some chili myself. Because of the sea urchin roe in the broth, it was especially exquisite. I didn’t throw away the flesh of the sea urchin, instead chopped it up to feed the chickens, letting them have some meat too, haha~
