Chapter 158: 【157】Tasty and Pretty Fisherman 8 (Four Updates)
The next day as soon as dawn broke, Xiao Yu woke Xiao Ze up, "Let’s go to the coast and see if there’s anything to eat. The dry food our parents gave us is almost gone. Starting today, we need to fend for ourselves. There might be kelp and seaweed brought ashore by the waves, and we can find various good things in the crevices of the rocks. Are you hungry? If you are, get up quickly."
Xiao Ze’s voice was buzzing, indicating that he really was not feeling well. When she bent down to check on him, she found his body burning hot. She had taken medicine last night and felt much relaxed this morning, but why had Xiao Ze gotten worse?
She hurriedly poured some clean water from the space, lit a fire, and cooked a pot of rice porridge for him, which she also added washed dandelions to. Then she crushed the medicine and woke Xiao Ze up to feed him, "Get some sleep after you eat, and I’ll go find you something to eat."
Although Xiao Ze showed no symptoms of the plague for now, she treated him just like a severe cold. If it really was an infectious disease, she wasn’t worried; they could buy medicine to treat the plague from the space, albeit at a high cost. It was precisely because she had a fallback that Xiao Yu felt so confident leaving him to look for delicacies along the coastline.
In fact, she was unfamiliar with coastal living, but her penchant for watching Korean variety shows had introduced her to many delicacies. So, despite the chaos of finding herself in this new situation, she was doing her utmost to adapt to the environment.
In her haste to head out, she forgot that the sea had tides that ebbed and flowed. To search for food along the coastline, it was necessary to wait for the tide to recede.
Clearly, it wasn’t the time for low tide, so when she reached the beach, at least half of the sandy area they walked on yesterday was submerged under sea water.
But she didn’t get discouraged and continued walking along the coastline, admiring the scenery and picking up kelp on the beach.
The kelp tossed ashore by the waves varied in size; the larger ones were as long as an arm and the smaller ones were the size of a palm, some thick and some thin, most of them slimy.
She hadn’t walked far before she had already gathered a large bunch. This amount was enough for the siblings to eat for several days, since kelp was easy to cook with, so she didn’t pick up more. After all, if there’s one thing the coast doesn’t lack, it’s such items.
After returning to the cave, she glanced at the hungry rooster and three hens chirping away. These chickens were still young, not yet ready to lay eggs. Whether they could have eggs in the future depended entirely on them.
She had no grains to feed them, but the island had plenty of wild grasses they could forage for themselves.
To keep them under her control, she took an axe and checked around for branches to build a square chicken coop with a three-meter side under the cave’s grassy nest, using local grass seeds and stones to feed them for a while. If she found something else later, she could always feed them that then.
After letting the chickens roam, she hurriedly cooked a pot of kelp rice porridge in a panic while her brother was still asleep. It was slightly fishy, but it was better than going hungry.
She woke her brother and touched his head; it was still a bit hot, "Are you feeling okay?"
"Big sister, I want to drink water."
Xiao Yu hurriedly uncovered the tile jar next to her and poured him a bowl of cold water, which he guzzled down in no time.
The cool water made his throat feel a bit better; Xiao Ze slowly opened his eyes, "Big sister, I’m hungry."
