Chapter 156: 【155】Tasty and Pretty Fisherman 6 (Second Update)
Awareness returned to reality, and Tangyuan became Shen Xiaoyu. She looked at the medicine in her hands but didn’t dare to give it to Shen Xiaozhe, as it was hard to explain.
In ancient times, everyone used traditional Chinese medicine; nobody had seen Western medicine, so the best plan was,
"Let’s go, we need to explore the island and see if there’s anything edible." And perhaps pick some medicinal herbs.
Although she was trained in Western medicine, she also knew basic traditional Chinese medicines from her classes in school. If those plants were on this island, she could definitely find them.
Plants like honeysuckle, Plantago, and dandelions, all had heat-clearing and detoxification effects.
"Sister, do you think there could be wild beasts or something on this island?"
Shen Xiaoyu shook her head, "I don’t know, we’ll see if there are any large animal footprints to know for sure. For safety, you’d better carry the chicken cage, and I’ll carry an axe."
She cut some branches with the axe to make a walking stick. Her parents had packed the axe onto the ship; besides the axe, there were other farming tools, an iron pot for cooking, etc. It was because they brought so many things that their grandparents couldn’t get on the boat...
Thinking of the lost family members, Shen Xiaoyu’s eyes felt hot, probably due to the lingering consciousness of the original soul.
The vegetation on the island was quite extensive, and there were also sizable coral reefs. The mountain wasn’t very tall, about one hundred meters. Fortunately, they found a cave. Though they didn’t find traces of other humans or any lakes or mountain springs on the island, water was flowing down from the cracks in the rocks, which could serve as water for daily use if they found a container to catch it.
Although she had never survived in the wilderness before, she had watched many wilderness survival shows in her previous life and learned some survival skills from them.
Of course, that’s not what she relied on to stay; the main reason was having a "space."
Luckily, there were no traces of large animals on the island, but there were plenty of small creatures, especially birds. During their exploration, they saw snake skin, a wild rabbit that flashed by, feathers of wild chickens everywhere, and some things resembling goat droppings. Could there be goats here?
From the shoreline, they headed straight to the top of the mountain to see if they could find a suitable shelter.
So they hadn’t looked elsewhere, but now that they’d found a cave and were so exhausted, they could actually call it a day.
Continuing would likely leave them without the strength to go back down the mountain to get their things.
Especially since both of them were running a fever, they had to get a fire started immediately.
"Xiao Ze, you pick up some firewood. I will carry our pots and pans up here, and then we’ll cook some food. Tonight, we’ll stay in this cave."
The cave was concave into the mountain rock like an arc, but since there were no doors or windows to provide cover, the fierce sea breeze in the winter could possibly freeze them to death, so they were likely facing many more challenges too daunting to even contemplate.
Xiao Ze, worried about Xiao Yu, followed his sister down the mountain despite being too exhausted to move. One carried bedding and the other carried pots and pans. The chicken cage they’d picked up earlier along with the axe, water bottles, and other items, were all placed inside the cave.
By the time they climbed back up the mountain, it was so dark that it couldn’t get any darker. They felt around in the dark for some dry wood, took out the flint from their bundle, and easily started a fire with the many fallen leaves in the cave.
