Chapter 181: Chapter 181

"I won’t leave you," Lance said piously. "There is no way I’m going to leave a woman as precious as you, Madeline Rose."

"Then, I have no worries. I will execute the plan right on time," Madeline replied. "Though, I do have a request for you."

"What is it?"

"It’s about my mother..."

**

Madeline prepared herself for the last scene of Psycho Moth with Zane.

After their fight almost a month ago, they grew distant and cold towards each other. They didn’t even speak after their scenes and would go on separate ways to ensure they didn’t bump into each other on the production set.

Of course, the staff already knew that Zane and Madeline weren’t really dating in real life. Madeline was actually dating Lancelot Grant, the CEO of Empress Entertainment. The dating announcement made by Zane was just a publicity stunt for this movie.

Yet, they couldn’t help but feel like it was a missed opportunity because Zane and Madeline undeniably looked great together; they also had that seamless chemistry as if they were made for each other.

Nevertheless, the shooting schedule went smoothly, and there was no altercation between Madeline and Zane in real life.

—Psycho Moth Final Scene–

Windy stormed into her apartment with a stack of evidence in her trembling hand, which would point out that the Psycho Moth was Troy, her boyfriend, all along.

She refused to believe it, especially since Psycho Moth suddenly gave too many obvious hints about his identity as if he was trying to lead Windy to her boyfriend.

So she wanted to make sure that Troy wasn’t implicated with Psycho Moth at all.

"Troy! Troy!" Windy called to him, desperately searching for Troy, who would usually spend his time doing his things in the kitchen or living room.

But he was nowhere to be seen.

Windy searched through the house with no sight of him. So she grabbed her phone and called Troy.

Unfortunately, Troy didn’t pick up after she called him twice.

"Goddamn it! Troy, pick up the damn phone! I’m trying to make sure that you won’t get arrested for no reason!" Windy yelled with frustration.

Fortunately, the call was connected on the third, and Windy quickly blasted Troy with questions.

"Where are you? I’ve been searching for you through the house and can’t find you anywhere!" Windy yelled. "I swear to god, Troy, you’re making me crazy with your unresponsiveness. Do you know what kind of shit will happen soon?!"

Troy didn’t react for a moment until Windy’s patience snapped.

"Answer me!"

"Do you know where I would visit when I’m not home?" Troy asked back. "Or do you only know me because I’m only at home most of the time?"

"That’s irrelevant—"

"That’s not irrelevant, babe," Troy interjected coldly on the phone. "If you want to find me, then you will have to know where my favorite place is. Hint: the place where we met for the first time."

"How am I supposed to remember that?!"

"Because I want to know if you take me seriously," Troy said. "I’ve degraded myself to be a stay-at-home boyfriend to support your dying career as a detective. I help with everything so you can have a good life out there. But you don’t give a damn about me."

"Troy! This is not the right time to say stupid stuff like this! Your life is in danger. You might get arrested because my colleagues started thinking that YOU are the Psycho Moth!"

"You call that stupid, huh?" Troy scoffed. "It’s ironic because you’re supposed to be a detective, but you can’t even seem to grasp the severity of your own situation."

"I will tell you everything about Psycho Moth. But you have to find me. First, I want to test whether you love me enough to catch me," Troy said before hanging up.

Beep.

Windy stood frozen. She heard the last sentence coming from Troy’s mouth and had a terrible feeling about this.

She tried to think positively, hoping it was just a misunderstanding.

Maybe Troy just got pissed off because she was too busy to even care about him. After all, Windy had to admit that she had neglected Troy for a while now.

"Please, Troy, tell me that you’re not the monster who killed so many people. I love you more than anything!" Windy said as she clenched the document, unsure what would happen next.

"CUT! That’s a wrap!"

—Psycho Moth Final Scene end–

"Perfection! We don’t need a retake at all!" Director Patton exclaimed while checking the recording through a small screen. "You two are amazing!"

Madeline and Zane approached the director, but while Madeline thanked the director, Zane filed a protest instead, "What the hell is wrong with this ending?! Are you telling me that you’re going to end the season with this bullshit cliffhanger?!"

"It’s not bullshit. If the first season does well, we can shoot the second," Director Patton said. "Besides, as I told you before, this script has been finalized, and there is nothing we can do about it."

Zane’s lips thinned as he was so pissed off by the director’s over-obedience towards the investor. It was painfully obvious that Lance meddled with the script, but he could do nothing because even Mr. Theodore Grant agreed to it.

Thus, he could only turn towards Madeline and say, "Don’t think this will be over, Madeline Rose. I will never let you off."

Zane walked off and left Madeline speechless by how bold he could be. He could even threaten her in front of the director.

Director Patton sighed, "Don’t mind him. You two are done for this season, so you don’t need to meet with each other again until the next season—assuming the show is a success. From what I see, this is a masterpiece because of you and Zane’s performance."

’Season two won’t happen because everyone will boycott this director,’ Madeline thought.

But she dared not to say it out loud because it was supposed to be part of the plan at completely dismantling Theodore Grant’s influence over Lance’s company and stop Zane from making fake news on the internet about them.
