She Becomes A Hot Sensation After A Scandalous Affair -
Chapter 153
Chapter 153: Chapter 153
Madeline returned to her house in the late evening. She was dazed the whole time in the car, thinking about everything they did in that mansion.
She chuckled as she knocked on the door, and Nathan opened it.
He frowned when he saw Madeline’s vacant but happy expression. "Did something happen, sis?" he asked.
"Oh—" Madeline snapped out of her daze and shook her head. "Nothing much. I just got back from the production set."
"Mhm, I’ve just finished cooking for dinner."
Madeline and Nathan ate the dinner that he prepared. She ate with relish, especially after a vigorous activity during the whole afternoon.
After she was done, she drank a coke while watching a random TV show with Nathan and asked, "What do you think about moving out?"
Nathan froze for a moment.
That question was so abrupt that it took a while for him to process his answer: "What’s wrong with our house? I think it’s good here, right?"
"Well, yes," Madeline sighed. "But you know I’m infamous right now, and if those people find our home, we won’t be able to live in peace. They will harass us. And I can’t just leave you here alone. You’re still fifteen."
"But this house is where we grew up. It has many memories of us, Maddy," Nathan murmured. He knew that her sister was just trying to protect him. But when facing the idea that he had to leave this place, Nathan’s heart felt heavy.
"I’m sorry, Nathan. It’s all my fault," Madeline said, gently patting her brother’s shoulder.
Nathan didn’t shrug Madeline off.
He looked around the house, which he cleaned almost every day.
He spent most of his time alone in this place because his parents would be busy helping Madeline while she was on a music tour or having a schedule to shoot a scene.
Nathan was often left alone with his aunt, or they would hire a babysitter.
But he was so used to staying alone in this house that he felt sentimental.
Madeline saw the reluctance in Nathan’s expression, so she tried to persuade him: "How about this? You will stay with me until you graduate high school. After that, you can go whenever you want, and I will pay for your apartment’s rent every month."
Madeline got no response from Nathan, so she added, "T—How about I pay for your college in the future? Or maybe you want something? A new game? Toy?"
"I’m not a kid, Maddy. I don’t need to be coaxed like that," Nathan sighed. "I’m just reluctant because this house has so many memories of us."
"I’m not going to sell it. We need to stay somewhere else because this neighborhood is too exposed for our safety," Madeline said. "By the time my popularity is fading out, we can probably return to stay here."
"Why can’t you leave on your own? I can stay here..."
"Nathan, you are fifteen! How am I supposed to leave my fifteen-year-old brother alone when people search for me!?"
"It’s always been like that, Maddy," Nathan said in a low voice. "I’ve been left alone here since I was very young, and I’m doing just fine."
Madeline was stunned.
She was so caught up with her idea of staying with her brother, as they could only rely on each other right now, that she forgot how independent and self-reliant Nathan truly was.
Nathan was right.
He would do just fine.
He had always been left alone in this house while Madeline and their parents were busy doing something in the entertainment industry.
It was shocking that Nathan didn’t seem to bear any grudges against her despite how she always hogged their parents’ attention.
"I... I’m sorry, Nathan." Madeline muttered. "I’m sorry I caused you to be left alone in this house..."
"That’s not what I mean," Nathan sighed. "Don’t apologize. I never blame you for what happened. It can’t be helped after all."
Madeline didn’t dare persuade Nathan again after that. She felt guilty because the only reason she did her best to keep this house from being seized by the bank was because it had been their family home for generations.
Madeline had rarely stayed there since she was young, but she knew how her mother treasured this old home.
But Nathan had a different reason for loving this house.
Nathan knew that Madeline didn’t want to persuade him anymore because of guilt, and he didn’t want to make his sister feel guilty for something she had no control over.
Thus, he looked around the house for the second time before nodding. "As long as you promise not to sell this house, then I’ll move out with you."
"Trust me, I will do my best to keep this old family home. It has many memories of us all..." Madeline promised.
"Mhm, so, when and where will we move out?"
"It’s, uh... a small house that’s quite far from here. You can’t go to school by bike, so I’ll give you money to pay for Uber every day."
"Too expensive," Nathan said. "Is there any bus station near the new house?"
"Uh..." Madeline imagined that huge mansion in a gated community and shook her head. "I don’t remember anything around. It’s fine. I’m being paid very well these days, and I can afford a good life for Mom and us."
"And we will move out tomorrow morning. Just pack your bag and everything that you want to bring tonight."
"Alright..." Nathan got up and quickly picked up all the photos and decorations around the living room.
Madeline watched how he commented on some of the pictures and knick-knacks.
"This is the photo of us on my first day at school. You were already a senior high student back then," Nathan smiled while pointing at a picture of Madeline smiling while holding her little brother’s hand, who cried on his first day at elementary school.
Madeline was already a rising star back then, and Nathan admired his sister so much that he begged Madeline to take him to the classroom, or else he’d cry again.
