She Becomes A Hot Sensation After A Scandalous Affair -
Chapter 138
Chapter 138: Chapter 138
Thus, she decided to read the most recent text that Zane sent.
—
Maddy, I know you must’ve been shocked by how things turned out on the internet.
But announcing our relationship is the best way to tackle Ethan and Bertha’s slander.
I don’t want you to be hurt, so I don’t mind being your online boyfriend.
I’m sorry I might sound pushy, but I just want the best for you.
—
Madeline’s fingers hovered above the phone’s keyboard. She kept typing and deleting her reply because she felt that Zane’s pitiful tone was different from his forceful request when they were on-call.
In the end, Madeline didn’t reply to him. She muted her phone again and went downstairs to eat with Nathan.
They sat facing each other, and there was nothing but awkward silence between them.
Nathan glanced at his sister many times but had no way to ask about what had happened.
Madeline stopped eating when her eyes met Nathan’s. She sighed and put her utensil. "You can ask me anything, Nathan. I don’t want you to get bullied in your school, so just tell me."
"Don’t worry. I don’t get bullied because of this," Nathan said, though the situation in his school was much more complicated than mindless bullies.
Nathan wasn’t bullied. He was popular on his own, but he kept getting question after question, asking if his sister was truly the worst woman on earth.
Some of them even asked if Nathan’s sister had bullied him, which was sickening to think about.
"I don’t need to know about Ethan and Bertha. It’s obvious that they’re slandering you. Besides, Jasmin already confirmed your innocence," Nathan said. He tried to keep the conversation level-headed, knowing his sister’s mood was bad. "About the man you went on a date with yesterday, he is Lance, right?"
"Yeah..."
"Then are you going out with Lance or Zane?" Nathan asked.
"What if I say neither?" Madeline asked back. "I don’t have any entanglement with any of them, Nathan. I haven’t officially dated any of them."
"Then what’s with the ruckus? Why’s Zane Eastwood claiming that you two are dating?"
"It’s... complicated," Madeline sighed.
"If it’s complicated, why can’t you just distance yourself from both of them?" Nathan suggested.
"I can’t. I..." Madeline sighed. "I’m sorry. I don’t think I’m ready to discuss this with you."
Madeline finished her dinner early and looked at her brother apologetically. "Sorry for being such a pain in the ass, Nathan."
Madeline ruffled her little brother’s hair before going upstairs to read her script.
She had a lot of burden in her mind and heart, but she needed to maintain her professionalism.
She didn’t want to disappoint Director Wang, who had given her the chance, and also Lance, who helped her get this offer.
Madeline locked the door and saw her phone vibrating on the table.
So she checked it, and her eyes widened instantly.
It was a text from Lance.
—
I want to talk to you, Maddy.
Please pick up the phone.
—
Her phone vibrated again the next second, and she saw Lance’s caller ID.
Madeline gulped nervously. She stared at it for a while, wondering if she should just run because she felt so guilty.
But she remembered how Lance was so devastated upon finding out that Madeline had agreed to Zane’s request.
’I still have to face him, no matter what. I’m not someone who’d run away from my problem,’ Madeline encouraged herself before accepting the call.
—
"Thank God you finally picked up the call," Lance said spontaneously. "I thought something happened to you."
"Mm, I just need some time to let everything seep in," Madeline said. She sat on her bed and began thinking of a good way to apologize. "Lance, I think I made a huge mistake by saying yes to Zane’s request..."
"Don’t beat yourself. You were under pressure," Lance softened his tone, thinking that Madeline was still crying in her room. "Baby, I have bad and good news."
Madeline took a deep breath. She didn’t know what kind of bad news awaited her. But she had to be mentally prepared, so she asked, "Can you tell me the bad news first?"
"The bad news is, my big brother, Theodore Grant, the current CEO of Silver Line Inc., signed a contract with Galaxy Entertainment, Zane’s company," Lance said. "They want to create a TV show based on my proposal, with you as the female lead and... that bastard as the male lead."
"TV show? This... this is a bit sudden," Madeline said. "I’m still in the middle of shooting as Renata, the Mistress in The Liar Husband and Lying Wife."
"I have been planning the TV show for you since last month. I planned to make it a crime-thriller with no love interest." Lance’s tone cooled when he thought of how his big brother messed up his plan. "But I’m not on good terms with my big brother. So he tries to sabotage my project by forcing Zane into the TV show and changing up the script completely."
Madeline didn’t know how to react, knowing she would be in a drama with Zane.
Other actresses would kill to be in the same frame as Zane Eastwood because it was a recipe for fame and fortune.
But not her.
Because whenever she kissed Zane, her mind would fly back to Lance, thinking about him over and over and somehow disliked having to kiss another man instead of only him.
"But I have good news, at least."
"And what is it?"
"I can get you out of this sticky situation. You don’t need to be in this TV show at all and act with Zane," Lance said. "I will terminate your official contract with Empress Entertainment and immediately transfer you to Valerie’s indie entertainment company. I will fund a small show where you will have to play as the main lead, and I will tell everyone that you have a conflicting schedule. So, another actress can replace you."
...
"This idea is foolproof, so you don’t have to worry about it," Lance added. "So, what do you think?"
