Chapter 483: Chapter 481: Please Invite Two Imperial Physicians to Have a Look

However, when Ye Hongyang arrived at Madam Yin’s courtyard, things were not as simple as he had thought.

A year ago, after Ye Hongyang failed to take over Madam Yin’s Pastry House by selling the yogurt pastry recipe on behalf of Maternal Aunt Liu, this was his first time back to Madam Yin’s courtyard. Yet he, as her husband in the full sense, couldn’t even step foot through the gate of Morning Moon Courtyard; he was rudely barred from entering by two coarse old woman servants just as he approached the gate.

After a moment of shock, Ye Hongyang immediately flew into a rage. This was Duke An’s Mansion, his home; Madam Yin was the Madam of Ye Family, and yet he, the heir of Duke An, couldn’t even enter his own lawful wife’s quarters. If word of this got out, wouldn’t he, Ye Hongyang, become the laughingstock of all the men in the capital?

However, no matter how Ye Hongyang stamped his feet in fury outside, shouting and cursing loudly, he failed to attract the attention of anyone inside Morning Moon Courtyard. Peering through the half-open doorway, he saw that the maids and old woman servants inside were unperturbed by his presence and continued with their chores as if the Princely Heir did not exist at all outside the gate.

The only ones paying attention to him were the two strong, powerful old woman servants in front of him. They stared at him with cold countenances, not allowing him one step closer to Morning Moon Courtyard.

It was actually the maids and old woman servants passing by Morning Moon Courtyard who took notice of the Crown Prince. Upon seeing such a Princely Heir, they quickly hastened their steps to flee from this troublesome place, afraid of provoking his ire.

After questioning Madam Yin to no avail, Ye Hongyang glared and stood in place for a while, ultimately unable to muster the courage to trouble Ye Xinyan. Compared to his disaster of a daughter, his father, though stern, was still somewhat easier to talk to.

Ye Hongyang decided to seek his father’s help to put a stop to this matter. After all, it should be his father who stepped in; the only daughter-in-law of Duke An’s Mansion was about to leave with her divorced daughter to a far-off land. As the head of the family, it wouldn’t look good on him either.

So Ye Hongyang turned decisively and headed for his father’s study in the front courtyard of Duke An’s Mansion.

Duke An naturally knew what his son’s interests and hobbies were and what he did every day. His unprecedented arrival at the study surely meant there was a problem he couldn’t solve on his own.

As for this problem Ye Hongyang couldn’t solve, Duke An could guess about seventy to eighty percent of it, and he couldn’t be bothered to ask, simply focusing on the geographical atlas in his hands, waiting for Ye Hongyang to speak first.

Ye Hongyang never cared much for his father’s indifferent attitude. After entering the room and giving a cursory bow, he plopped down on a chair and said to Duke An, "Father, Madam Yin is going to Yuyuan Prefecture. You can’t agree to it no matter what. Her maternal family, marital family, and husband are all in the capital, yet she wants to follow a daughter of questionable character thousands of miles away. This would sound ugly if the word got out; it would shame everyone in our entire mansion."

Duke An glanced at Ye Hongyang, feeling a surge of irritation but also knowing that getting angry with him would be like playing the lute to a cow.

Duke An eyed Ye Hongyang askance for a good while, then said very indifferently, "Your own wife, if you can’t control her, why come to me? What’s the reason for that?"

"I," Ye Hongyang opened his mouth. There was no such reason, but, "I went to find Madam Yin. Her wicked servants wouldn’t even let me through the door. What could I do?"

"Haha." Duke An laughed out of sheer irritation, "Your own wife and you have no solution; I’m even less likely to have one. Go on, since Madam Yin is nothing more than a decoration for you, don’t fret over this matter. Go enjoy a storytelling session or drink tea, roam freely."

What did Father mean by that? His inability to manage the situation had its reasons.

"I, I have no way because I don’t have people at my disposal. If you assign people from the mansion to me, I’ll take them to Madam Yin’s courtyard, and I refuse to believe that they’ll be able to stop me. If they push me too far, I’ll tie them up and punish them with family discipline," Ye Hongyang became more and more convinced that his plan was feasible.

Duke An coldly picked up where he left off and continued, "Then Yin Long brings people over, both families start fighting, and the patrolling imperial censor takes both parties before His Majesty. Do you want them to bring up the matter of you favoring your concubine and disposing of your wife at the Imperial Court, and let His Majesty give a verdict? By the way, deeming you immoral and stripping you of your Princely Heir title?"

Ye Hongyang stared at Duke An, wide-eyed. Could it really turn out that way? Surely not, right? Would Yin Long really make such a big fuss about it? Isn’t he worried about losing face?

Well, it’s quite possible. Even if Marquis Zhongyong wouldn’t do it, Yin Xiaocheng would. Many years ago, Yin Xiaocheng almost had him bound and taken to the Yamen, accusing him of harming his wife.

Exiting from the study room in Duke An’s Mansion, Ye Hongyang was extremely frustrated. He stood in the middle of the Second Gate, looking around the courtyard with no solution in sight. In the end, he simply turned around and left to amuse himself. After all, if Madam Yin is spoken of, it’s not just him who loses face. His father and mother would be equally humiliated, and their reputations are more important than his.

No sooner had Ye Hongyang left than Maternal Aunt Zhao, who was managing affairs in the mansion, started feeling unwell. First, she felt dizzy and even accidentally broke a cup.

Nanny Qian, seeing her complexion was indeed poor, suggested she rest.

Maternal Aunt Zhao repeatedly said it was nothing serious, blaming it on a poor night’s sleep from the day before. Later, while inspecting the kitchen, checking the purchased ingredients and utensils, her complexion worsened, and she couldn’t help but start retching uncontrollably.

After retching, Maternal Aunt Zhao felt her condition was still manageable and continued to check the accounts.

However, the maid assigned by the Duchess to attend to Maternal Aunt Zhao felt uneasy and covertly sent a message to Yangyi Court. Upon hearing the maid’s description, something clicked in the Duchess’ mind, and she exchanged a glance with Nanny Qian.

Nanny Qian asked, "Shall I have someone fetch two physicians to take a look?"

Maternal Aunt Zhao was personally selected by Duchess An and had been in the mansion for more than a year. Although the Duchess didn’t say it out loud, she was anxious. Maternal Aunt Zhao was surrounded by people arranged by Nanny Qian herself, so there was no chance of foul play. However, Maternal Aunt Zhao had shown no signs of pregnancy. Now that there was a glimmer of hope, how could they not take it seriously?

Maternal Aunt Zhao did not disappoint Duchess An, as both physicians who were summoned diagnosed her with pregnancy.

This news was an enormous joyous occasion for the Duke’s Mansion.

At such a time, Duchess An was not one to take matters lightly. Maternal Aunt Zhao currently shared a courtyard with Maternal Aunt Liu, and living together would not be advisable after the pregnancy. Who knew what might happen? She arranged for a message to be sent to Duke An, moving all his belongings from Yangyi Court to the main courtyard. Two rooms were cleared out in the East Wing Room to accommodate Maternal Aunt Zhao and her maids.

With his son’s concubine pregnant, the Duchess knew she had to inform her son. She did arrange for someone to bring the news to Ye Hongyang. However, after being turned down at both places he frequented, Ye Hongyang went off in a huff to see a play and didn’t visit his usual theaters. The messenger failed to find him.

When the Duchess heard that the Crown Prince had not been found, she let the matter go; it was only a matter of knowing sooner or later—it wasn’t a big deal. Besides, it was uncertain whether her son would be happy about Maternal Aunt Zhao’s pregnancy. Perhaps in his foolishness, he might even be more wary of the child that Maternal Aunt Zhao would bear.
