Chapter 325: Chapter 324 Dissatisfaction with You
Zhao Gang was greatly shaken after looking over the two industries directly managed by Ye Xinyan. Following that, he accompanied Cheung Wusi to get a general understanding of Qi Family Construction Business, examined the materials currently being prepared for constructing the cattle farm, and also led people to help the old master for two days.
The cattle farm and Dairy Products Store were directly managed by Ye Xinyan, and although these two industries belonged to His Highness Prince Yu, the stewards, workers, and craftsmen who worked in these industries respected Ye Xinyan a great deal. It was evident that Ye Xinyan held a pivotal position within these industries.
Take the cattle farm, for example, raising cattle was not a rare occurrence, but it was unusual to raise them on such a large scale, and particularly for the acquisition of cow’s milk which was unheard of.
After touring the cattle farm a couple of times, Zhao Gang sharply noticed that although the main objective of the cattle farm was to obtain cow’s milk, a couple of rounds inside made it clear that breeding calves was equally a definite purpose.
The few large breeding bulls in the cattle farm were exceptionally well-taken care of, their treatment was in no way inferior to the dairy cows. Their pens were even more spacious, and there were people designated to take them out to graze.
He also vaguely heard the steward instructing the workers, who were involved in miscellaneous tasks, to take the dairy cows whose milk production period had ended to mate. This indicated that the cattle farm’s purpose in raising cattle was not only for cow’s milk but also for breeding calves.
If they were to sell working cattle and produce dairy products simultaneously, not only would the dairy products be profitable, but the working cattle would also provide an income. Moreover, should there be an abundance of working cattle, the price would likely decrease, making them more affordable for more farmers, which would naturally be greatly beneficial to agriculture.
As an outsider, Zhao Gang saw that, although the current scale of the cattle farm wasn’t large, its strict management was comparable to military regulations—such that even if its scale were expanded several times, managing it would be effortless.
With the future large sales of Flavored Cheese, and Yuyuan Prefecture’s working cattle becoming widespread, coupled with the rising power of Qi Family Construction Business, the Miss Cousin’s future seemed promising, meaning she wasn’t the future-less individual many deemed her to be.
Although Jinrong and Jiang Yifan didn’t plan to disturb Zhao Gang, he unexpectedly encountered them.
Zhao Gang had said he would treat Guan He to a drink and certainly wouldn’t put it off for long. Two days later, in the late morning, Zhao Gang, accompanied by two attendants, came with Guan He to the county town. They found the largest restaurant there, Great Crane House, intending to have a thorough drink. To be satisfied, they had to stay from lunch until dinner.
The sight of Zhao Gang and his four companions, each tall and robust on horseback, caused quite a stir as they made their way through the town’s main street. That’s when they saw Jinrong and Jiang Yifan, also coming to eat, dressed in casual clothes.
As a member of Marquis Zhongyong’s Mansion, Zhao Gang naturally didn’t look kindly upon Jiang Yifan.
He had felt a deep sense of guilt towards Jiang Yifan in the past, knowing that very few could endure Miss Cousin’s behavior. But the misfortune that befell Miss Cousin last time was truly disastrous. Although Miss Cousin herself was largely to blame, as a man, Jiang Yifan should have managed the situation differently. Unlike Zhao Gang, he had, during his wife’s distress, pushed his wife towards an unpredictable and tragic fate.
This was something Zhao Gang felt could never be forgiven.
Jinrong and Jiang Yifan had arrived on foot. Despite Jiang Yifan’s earnest greeting and bow as soon as he saw Zhao Gang, Zhao Gang’s expression was dark and unmoved. Barely responding with a nod, he turned to pay respect to Jinrong, "Your humble servant greets Sixth Master."
Jinrong chuckled and waved his hand, "No need for formalities. You’ve come all this way without letting us know. It seems you didn’t plan to inform us, did you?"
Zhao Gang stood up straight following Jinrong’s gesture, respectfully replying, "Your Highness Sixth Master, I was sent here privately by the general, and I truly did not dare to flaunt this in public nor dare to trouble Your Highness Sixth Master with this. I ask for forgiveness for any disrespect," he added, bowing to Jinrong.
"It’s fine, your general has been thorough in his thinking," Jinrong raised an eyebrow, scrutinizing Zhao Gang. For an Attendant of Marquis Zhongyong’s heir to possess such composure, it appeared Marquis Zhongyong had been modest at the Imperial Court.
Jiang Yifan also greeted Guan He, finishing the formalities.
Guan He seemed fascinated as he looked over the three men, asking, "What’s this? Meeting here, are we joining together?" Eating with Jinrong and Jiang Yifan would make the occasion less interesting; his plans from morning to night might have to change.
Fortunately, Jiang Yifan was quick to pick up on cues. Picking up the conversation, he smiled and said, "Brother Guan and Master Zhao should please go ahead as you wish. Sixth Master and I just want a full stomach. Joining together would dampen Brother Guan and Master Zhao’s spirits."
"You do know how to be considerate towards your mentor," Jinrong laughed, "Since Yuanfan has said so, Brother Guan, you can do as you please. I and Yuanfan won’t accompany you gentlemen," he said, politely nodding to Guan He and Zhao Gang, prompting Zhao Gang and the two attendants to hurriedly bow in return.
How could they not? It was anxiety-inducing for those beneath His Highness Prince Yu to receive such a casual greeting.
Zhao Gang especially glanced at Guan He and, as expected, saw Guan He breezily return the salute, "I dare not accept such politeness from Sixth Master. Please, Your Highness, go ahead." It appeared Guan He was indeed no ordinary person, considering even His Highness Prince Yu showed him such courtesy.
Jinrong and Jiang Yifan entered a private room and watched as Zhao Gang and his group headed further inside. Jinrong, settling into his usual spot, teased Jiang Yifan, "If Zhao Gang has significant influence over Ye Zi, I’m afraid your days ahead will be difficult. He appears to hold quite a grudge against you."
Jiang Yifan glanced sideways at him and summoned the server, asking, "Does your restaurant have any new dishes?"
The server quickly approached, "There are no new dishes, but our chefs have recently learned to make braised chicken in brown sauce and lion’s head meatballs from the chefs in the city. They’ve improved their skills, and the shredded bamboo shoot soup is also quite good."
Jiang Yifan looked at Jinrong, who motioned, "Let’s have those three then, and add two dishes with a refreshing taste." Turning to Hongzhi, Shi Yu, and the others, he said, "Order whatever you fancy, be swift about it."
Once the server had gone to relay the order, Jinrong persistently inquired, "Hey, you didn’t react when Zhao Gang showed you blatant dissatisfaction earlier. What’s up with that?"
