Chapter 480: Chapter 480 The 2nd Version of the Story
"Mr. Pei, thank you for your concern, but it’s unnecessary. This is my own matter, and I know how to handle it. There’s no need for outsiders to intervene."
Heyu coldly refused Yansi’s kindness. After she finished speaking, she lifted her foot to leave, but Yansi raised his hand to block her way.
"Heyu, do you realize by doing this you are putting yourself in danger?"
Heyu looked at the hand with which Yansi was blocking her and lifted her gaze sidelong at Yansi, "I only know that Mr. Pei’s superfluous acts will put me in danger. You are well aware the Chen Family is eyeing you with hostility, yet you persist in entangling yourself with me. Isn’t this clearly making me a target for the Chen Family to strike against?"
Yansi heard Heyu’s words, frowned coldly, and finally slowly lowered the hand that was blocking Heyu’s path.
"Heyu, I have repeatedly warned you that there’s something off about Lu Yi. If you don’t take my warning to heart and you end up in danger because of him one day, don’t blame me for not having warned you."
"Thank you for the warning, Mr. Pei. If there’s nothing else, you can leave now. If you came here just to find me today, then don’t bother Lu Yi. He is injured right now and needs to rest and recover."
Yansi had said all he could, yet in the end, Heyu was still concerned that Lu Yi was a patient who needed to rest well and should not be disturbed.
He felt as though an arrow had pierced his heart.
Watching his retreating figure, Heyu clenched her fist that hung by her side. Every word he had just said echoed in her head like thunder.
She needed to find an opportunity to subtly probe into last night’s incident. If last night’s matter was indeed related to Lu Yi...
No, it couldn’t be. Lu Yi would surely not do such a thing.
He had always been tender and careful in taking care of her and Yuexue. How could he betray Heyu and do something like this?
As soon as this hypothesis formed in her mind, Heyu immediately denied it. She cast all her thoughts aside and went to buy seafood congee, then returned to the hospital ward with some fruit.
"I bought your favorite seafood congee. Can you move your hand?" Heyu took out the congee, and as soon as she opened the lid, the aroma wafted out.
Lu Yi gave a rueful smile. In front of Heyu, he attempted to lift his hand but found his right hand unable to rise.
"I may have to be an invalid for a while. I’ll probably have to trouble you to take care of me. I hope you won’t mind."
Heyu, holding the seafood congee, sat down beside the bed.
"Then rest well these days. Don’t think about anything else."
Heyu fed Lu Yi a spoonful of seafood congee. "How’s the taste?"
Lu Yi nodded, "Delicious. It’s better than any congee I’ve had before, probably because you’re the one feeding it to me."
"You’re injured like this, and you still speak so smoothly," Heyu didn’t laugh, weighed down by heavier matters on her mind. Seeing Lu Yi in this condition, she really didn’t know how to broach the subject of last night’s events.
Lu Yi acutely sensed that Shen Heyu had something on her mind because she had looked at him several times with an expression that suggested she wanted to speak but stopped herself. It was clear she had something she wanted to say.
"What’s the matter with you? I’ve felt that something’s been off since earlier, like you want to tell me something, yet you’re afraid it might hurt me. Don’t worry, just say it. I’m already in this state; I’m not afraid of anything else anymore."
Shen Heyu had organized her words several times but ultimately could not bring herself to ask.
She considered that Lu Yi was so severely injured, and to bring up something he didn’t want to face at this time might agitate him, so she ultimately swallowed the words she had at the tip of her tongue.
But Lu Yi picked up on her hesitation, and he proactively offered Shen Heyu an out, guiding her to voice what she wanted to say.
Shen Heyu took a deep breath and set down the seafood congee she was holding.
"I really do have something I want to ask you, but I’m worried it might hurt you."
"Heyu, what are you talking about? If you say things like that, it sounds distant and formal. We’re so familiar with each other now; just say whatever it is you want to say. There’s no one else here."
Lu Yi actually knew what Shen Heyu wanted to say because after she had left the room, he had received a call from Chen Wenzhou. Chen Wenzhou had very cautiously advised Lu Yi, teaching him what to do to certainly avoid arousing Shen Heyu’s suspicions.
As he watched her comforting demeanor, Shen Heyu felt even more hesitant to speak, especially since Lu Yi was the one injured, yet he was the one comforting her.
"Alright, just say whatever you want to say. If you don’t speak up soon, I really won’t be able to eat anything."
Shen Heyu sighed and ultimately expressed the thoughts that had been swirling in her mind.
"Lu Yi, I want to ask you, after I received your call yesterday, I fainted and don’t know what happened after that. How did you end up so severely injured and in the hospital?"
Shen Heyu heard bits of gossip from the nurses in the elevator, but she still didn’t know the full story of what happened last night. She hoped Lu Yi would tell her himself.
As she broached the subject, Lu Yi’s hand that was holding her wrist slowly loosened.
Lu Yi’s expression carried a hint of desolation, and he looked down, seemingly pained. Shen Heyu quickly said, "If you don’t want to talk about it, you don’t have to. The most important thing right now is for you to heal properly and get discharged from the hospital as soon as possible."
"Actually, there’s nothing I can’t speak about. It’s just that after I called you yesterday and knew you were going to meet Chen Wenzhou alone in the evening, I had a bad feeling, worried that something might happen to you, so I hurried to the hotel."
"But when I got there, I found out that Chen Wenzhou was negotiating a deal with Pei Yansi."
"What? You saw Chen Wenzhou negotiating with Pei Yansi? What exactly is going on?" Shen Heyu furrowed her brow.
What he was saying and what Pei Yansi had told her were like two different versions of the story.
Lu Yi turned his head, his gaze somewhat desolate as he looked at Shen Heyu and nodded affirmatively. "That’s right, I did see Chen Wenzhou in business talks with Pei Yansi. Chen Wenzhou said if Pei Yansi really couldn’t let go of you, he would satisfy him by allowing him to possess you. Afterwards, he would obediently cooperate with the Chen Family’s engagement plans, marrying Chen Lingmeng as his wife."
"I heard Pei Yansi agreeing to this matter. When I arrived at the scene, I witnessed them making a deal over you. I got so angry that I confronted them then and there, but I was no match for them at all, and in the end, it turned out like this."
