Chapter 471 Bowing Down to Her
Chapter 471: Chapter 471 Bowing Down to Her
"If you really want to get Shen Heyu, then do as I say," Chen Wenzhou frowned impatiently.
"But I feel there’s no need to go to that extent. After all, Shen Heyu and I are legally protected as a married couple, even though we don’t have a marital relationship."
Lu Yi frowned, unwilling to bow to Shen Heyu, especially since he had just witnessed Shen Heyu sitting in Pei Yansi’s embrace.
Shouldn’t Shen Heyu be the one seeking his forgiveness and bending before him at a time like this? Why should Lu Yi lower his head?
"Lu Yi, would you please use your brain? You can’t possibly think that the marriage certificate is truly a guarantee for your marriage with Shen Heyu. If Pei Yansi really wanted to separate you two, he could easily invalidate that marriage certificate with a mere flick of his fingers."
"Moreover, haven’t you clarified it yourself? Your marriage with Shen Heyu is a sham, devoid of any marital relationship. Under these circumstances, you must cautiously please Shen Heyu."
Chen Wenzhou had made himself very clear. If Lu Yi had any brains, he should understand what was being said, but he stubbornly acted as if he was brainless.
Lu Yi stubbornly retorted, "Shen Heyu and I may not have a marital relationship now, but didn’t you promise to help turn our sham marriage into a real one?"
Chen Wenzhou felt so enraged by his words that he wanted to throw his phone out. Why did he have to be stuck with such a useless partner?
"If you don’t want to lose Shen Heyu, you’d better do as I say, or I can’t guarantee how far you two will go."
"But..."
"There are no ’buts.’ You must do exactly as I tell you, without any mistakes. Do you hear me?" Chen Wenzhou’s last bit of patience with Lu Yi was exhausted, and he involuntarily raised his voice, admonishing Lu Yi in an authoritative tone.
"What do you mean by that? We are partners, not employer and employee. What right do you have to order me around?" Lu Yi was dissatisfied with Chen Wenzhou’s control over him.
Chen Wenzhou almost blacked out in frustration upon hearing Lu Yi’s words.
He took a deep breath to calm himself and finally said through gritted teeth, "If you refuse to listen to me, then our partnership might as well end here."
"Wait!" Chen Wenzhou had to resort to threatening Lu Yi, who was still anxious and afraid of losing such a strong partner. Hesitant, he called out to Chen Wenzhou.
"What now? If there’s nothing else, you can hang up. I’m very busy, and I don’t have time to waste with you."
"I understand. I’ll do as you said, but if it’s not effective as you say..."
Chen Wenzhou finally achieved his goal. Though Lu Yi was reluctant and not very cooperative with his plan, for now, he remained Chen Wenzhou’s best partner.
"Don’t worry, the thing you’re concerned about won’t happen. Just do as I say."
"That’s your word. If it doesn’t turn out well, I will..."
"Lu Yi..." Before Lu Yi could finish his sentence, he suddenly caught a glimpse of Shen Heyu’s shadow in the glass reflection behind the door. Lu Yi abruptly ended the call, turning his head in panic to look at Shen Heyu standing at the doorway.
"Who were you just talking to?" Shen Heyu had just entered the study and had overheard Lu Yi’s threatening tone. She thought he might be facing some trouble.
Lu Yi certainly couldn’t tell Shen Heyu the whole truth, and instead shook his head with a smile as he denied, "Nothing much, just told them to hurry up and catch the driver who caused the accident, but they said it’s going to be difficult and will take some time."
It was then that Shen Heyu nodded in understanding.
"I personally reviewed the surveillance footage. The driver who caused the accident took a route that was a blind spot for the cameras; it might take a while to catch him. You need to stay calm and wait patiently."
Shen Heyu comforted Lu Yi.
After hanging up the phone, Lu Yi held the phone in his palm, which had begun to sweat profusely. Anxiously, he looked at Shen Heyu and tentatively asked, "Heyu, you’re not angry with me anymore?"
Shen Heyu knew what he was referring to, but she had no desire to continue the topic, and instead looked at Lu Yi with a hint of disappointment.
"Your injuries haven’t fully healed; why did you suddenly discharge yourself? The doctors all suggested that you should stay in the hospital for observation for a few more days." Shen Heyu had received a call from Lu Yi’s attending doctor about his sudden discharge, which was why she hurried back, concerned.
"I couldn’t breathe in that hospital, so I decided it was better to come back and recuperate at home." Lu Yi frowned deeply.
Just thinking of the hospital reminded him of the incident with Pei Yansi and the fact Pei Yansi was in the ward next door; how could he stay?
He hadn’t told the truth, but Shen Heyu knew what was on his mind, and she didn’t expose him.
"I’ve communicated with the doctor in detail, and he said the injuries you’ve observed are merely superficial wounds that can be treated at home. However, if you feel any discomfort, you still need to go to the hospital immediately."
"Don’t worry, I’ll listen to you." Lu Yi smiled weakly at Shen Heyu, his confidence shaken, and walked towards her.
But as soon as he took a step towards Shen Heyu, she reflexively stepped back, widening the distance between them.
Noticing Shen Heyu’s subtle movement, Lu Yi’s smile instantly stiffened.
He looked at Shen Heyu pale-faced; she was undoubtedly still upset about what happened at the hospital.
"You are mad, aren’t you? I owe you an apology for this. I hope you can see that this is my first offense and not hold it against me." Lu Yi lowered his stance, bowed his head to Shen Heyu, but her facial expression remained indifferent, as though shaded by a cloud.
"Why talk about these things now? What’s important is that you get better quickly. If there’s nothing else, then I’ll head back to my room. You should rest."
Having said that, Shen Heyu turned to leave. Lu Yi, in desperation, grabbed hold of her wrist.
At his touch, Shen Heyu furrowed her brow with irritation.
"If you have something to say, say it. Don’t touch me." Shen Heyu pulled her hand away from Lu Yi’s grip, maintaining a normal social distance.
Perceiving Shen Heyu’s aloofness, Lu Yi’s heart felt as though it were being pricked by needles. It was his fault that Shen Heyu had become like this; why hadn’t he controlled his emotions back at the hospital?
He had followed Shen Heyu for so long, always managing to keep his emotions in check, so why did they erupt now?
"I’m sorry, Shen Heyu."
