Fu Shihan was occupied with social engagements in Bin City and couldn’t manage to return to the Imperial Capital.

Su Wanxin, perhaps accustomed to living alone for the past three years or perhaps always resistant to close contact with Fu Shihan, was living quite contentedly during his absence.

That afternoon, before Su Wanxin finished work, she received a call from Fu Shihan.

She thought he would return today, but after hearing what he said, she slowly breathed a sigh of relief.

Someone from GE was in town, and Fu Shihan asked her to attend the event in his stead that evening.

"Okay, send me the hotel address, I’ll head over after I finish work," Su Wanxin replied quietly.

"Why do I feel like you just breathed a sigh of relief?" Fu Shihan’s languid voice came through the phone, tinged with dissatisfaction, "Thinking I was coming back today?"

"No, of course not, you’re overthinking it."

Admitting it was out of the question; she would never confess to it, even if it killed her.

"Su Wanxin, are you not looking forward to my return at all?"

"No, not at all, really not."

Fu Shihan frowned in annoyance. If he hadn’t known that she went straight home from work every day and never went anywhere else, he’d almost suspect she had a secret lover.

Without saying anything more, Fu Shihan hung up the call. The more he thought about Su Wanxin not being affectionate with him, the more unpleasant he felt.

And thinking about how she’s been away for three years without ever considering coming back to look for him, the suffocation in his chest grew even worse.
