Sharing Dreams with My Bestie’s Cousin -
Chapter 237 - 237 Before his eyes he fell down
Chapter 237: Before his eyes, he fell down. Chapter 237: Before his eyes, he fell down. Someone shouted for people to make way, but Wen Zhi didn’t hear it, and soon after, she was struck by a rolling suitcase.
She staggered forward, and from behind her came a continuous stream of apologies. Wen Zhi shook her head. The person asked a few more times, not reassured, but with no reaction from Wen Zhi, they eventually walked away, leaving her still dazed.
It wasn’t until someone called her name:
“Wen Zhi.”
Wen Zhi seemed to awaken from a dream, her unfocused eyes finally showing life. She looked in the direction of the voice and saw Gu Rang’s face.
In that instant, tears fell from her eyes.
Gu Rang felt a tightness in his chest and quickly closed the distance in two strides to embrace Wen Zhi.
His hug was familiar and warm. Wen Zhi’s tears soon soaked the front of his shirt. “Nian Xun said… my dad, my dad is gone, is it true?”
Gu Rang’s body stiffened, and the hand cradling the back of Wen Zhi’s head paused, uncertain of what to do next.
With tears streaming down her face, Wen Zhi looked up at him. “Gu Rang, I trust you the most. Don’t lie to me, please tell me the truth, I just want to hear the truth.”
The muscles in Gu Rang’s jaw tightened severely, with a pained expression he finally nodded slowly. “Yes, President Mu… he’s already passed away.”
Passed away…
Already passed away…
In the moment Gu Rang’s words landed, he could distinctly feel the complete emotional collapse of the person in his arms.
She pushed him away and started to walk out.
But she had no idea which direction to go, staggering aimlessly, her body on the verge of collapse, then she fell right in front of Gu Rang.
“Wen Zhi—!”
The moment she fell, Wen Zhi’s ears were ringing. She could only see the bustling figures in front of her but couldn’t hear any sounds.
She thought she was still walking. She didn’t realize her body was falling. She couldn’t even feel the pain, nor understand why her vision was undergoing such tumultuous changes, why everyone was tilting. She wasn’t aware that she was about to faint.
Not until her head roared and everything in front of her turned blank did she completely lose consciousness.
…
Gu Rang took Wen Zhi to the hospital.
The doctor pried open Wen Zhi’s eyes to check them and arranged for additional tests. After determining the cause, they gave Wen Zhi a glucose injection, then told her family there were no major issues and to just wait for her to wake up.
Wen Zhi slept very deeply this time.
She had a dream where Wen Yinxi was doing her hair. She curled up in Wen Yinxi’s arms to share her grievances when suddenly, the dream shifted, and the Wen Yinxi in front of her turned into Mu Yanzhou.
Mu Yanzhou tenderly caressed Wen Zhi’s head, calling her, “Zhizhi…”
Wen Zhi grabbed Mu Yanzhou’s hand. “Dad, you’re back, that’s great, you didn’t abandon me.”
“Zhizhi, live well from now on,” Mu Yanzhou said.
Wen Zhi, crying, asked, “Dad, are you also leaving me?”
Mu Yanzhou just smiled.
He tried to withdraw his hand, but Wen Zhi clung on tightly, refusing to let go. Amid their struggle, Wen Zhi woke up.
By this time, four hours had passed since Wen Zhi had lost consciousness.
She opened her eyes in confusion, her unfocused pupils staring at the ceiling for a long time, until she heard hurried footsteps approaching. Turning her head, she saw Gu Rang’s face full of concern.
“You’re awake,” Gu Rang said as he approached, bending over her.
Wen Zhi’s voice was especially hoarse. “What happened to me?”
Gu Rang replied, “You fainted due to overwhelming grief.”
Wen Zhi asked again, “How long was I out?”
Gu Rang: “Four hours.”
Upon hearing this, Wen Zhi tore off the covers and got up, but Gu Rang pressed down on her shoulder. Just as Wen Zhi was about to struggle, she noticed a tear drop on her arm.
She paused and asked, “What is this?”
Gu Rang followed the direction of Wen Zhi’s gaze, explaining, “The doctor gave you a glucose injection. It might have accidentally dripped onto your hand.”
Wen Zhi tried to detect any microexpressions on Gu Rang’s face that would indicate he was lying.
But there were none.
She lifted her hand, her lips touching the tear drop, “It’s salty, it’s a tear.”
Gu Rang then said, “It’s the tears I shed for you.”
Wen Zhi looked at him. “Really?”
Gu Rang gently said, “I was by your side the entire four hours, talking to you a lot. I didn’t realize my tears had fallen on your hand. I just went out to wash my face and didn’t expect you to be awake.”
It sounded like an offhand fabrication, at least that’s what Wen Zhi believed.
She said nothing, her face tense as she tried to get up.
Seeing this, Gu Rang coaxed in a low voice, “Rest in bed if you’re not feeling well.”
“I’m feeling very good.” Wen Zhi removed his hand, determined to get out of bed.
Gu Rang had no choice but to let her be, knowing what would happen next and that it was time for that step.
“Where is he?” Wen Zhi asked gravely.
Gu Rang glanced outside the door, and before he could speak, Wen Zhi had already rushed out.
She opened the door and saw Zhan Feng’s figure.
But she looked past Zhan Feng, searching around, and finally her gaze settled on the black wooden box he was holding in his hands, and she went still for an instant.
Zhan Feng couldn’t bear to see Wen Zhi in pain, but he had no choice but to confront her with the truth as he said in a subdued voice, “Miss, these are Chairman Mu’s ashes.”
Wen Zhi stared at the dark wooden box for a long time, uttering not a word, motionless as a statue.
Zhan Feng handed the urn to Wen Zhi.
She didn’t take it.
It was as if she had finally come back to her senses, then she shook her head and said, “I don’t believe he’s just gone like that. You must all be lying to me.”
Zhan Feng glanced at Gu Rang.
Gu Rang walked over and grabbed Wen Zhi’s arm, “Wen Zhi, calm down.”
“Let go of me!” Wen Zhi shook off Gu Rang’s hand and then demanded of him, “You’re tricking me, aren’t you? Say it! Say you are!”
Gu Rang frowned, “We’re not deceiving you. Chairman Mu is dead.”
Wen Zhi slowly shook her head, her shaking turning into a brief smile, “No, that can’t be…”
Gu Rang tightened his grip on Wen Zhi’s shoulder, “Chairman Mu is dead! He is dead! Do you hear me?”
Wen Zhi had little reaction, letting Gu Rang shake her.
It wasn’t until she heard Gu Rang say, “The day you left, Chairman Mu sent all of us away. He said he needed to talk to Chong Wanyin, but that talk, it turned out, became a demise no one expected.”
Tears slid down Wen Zhi’s cheeks, a silent wail rising in her throat.
At that moment, Gu Rang also took out a mobile phone and handed it to Wen Zhi, “Chairman Mu had planned everything well in advance, including plans for your future. You’ve misunderstood a lot of things about him; he’s been considering you all along… He also left you a video message to say goodbye.”
As Wen Zhi reached out to take the phone, her hand trembled violently, nearly unable to hold it steady.
When her fingertip accidentally touched the screen, a video that had not yet begun to play appeared before her eyes.
She pressed play, and saw the gentle face in the video, and the first words he said — “Zhizhi, my dearest daughter.”
