Chapter 206 - 206 You rest on the high terrace I perch on Spring
Chapter 206: You rest on the high terrace, I perch on Spring Mountain. Chapter 206: You rest on the high terrace, I perch on Spring Mountain. Shang Hexing saw her embarrassment and immediately turned to open the faucet, “Will this do?”
The sound of rushing water filled the space.
Wen Zhi knew he was worried about her touching the hand, but it was still…
She stealthily glanced at Shang Hexing; he was looking at her at that moment. After their eyes met, she quickly moved her gaze away and said softly, “You should go out.”
Fearing she had been holding it in too long, Shang Hexing eventually went out.
However, he didn’t go far and stood at the restroom’s doorway. He didn’t turn off the faucet so Wen Zhi wouldn’t feel awkward, and quickly took care of things.
The moment she washed her hands and turned off the faucet, the restroom door opened, and Shang Hexing’s worried gaze fell on her. Seeing that she was alright, he finally felt relieved.
Her face was calm, but her heart was warm as a blazing sun.
She slowly walked toward him, “Actually, I am not that irritable; you don’t need to worry too much.”
Shang Hexing hummed in acknowledgment and reached out to hug her.
Wen Zhi immediately said, “I can walk out on my own.”
She had only injured her hand. Her legs and feet were fine; she could walk and jump. She couldn’t always rely on his embrace.
But Shang Hexing said, “You need me.”
Wen Zhi looked up at him, only to hear him repeat it again, adding her name, “Wen Zhi, say you need me.”
Wen Zhi understood his meaning.
She pursed her lips and responded following his words, “Yes, I need you.”
As the words fell, Shang Hexing lifted her in his arms, turned, and walked out of the restroom toward the hospital bed.
Shang Hexing placed her on the bed, took off her shoes, covered her with a blanket, and then sat down on the chair next to the bed.
He took out his phone to dial Chen Jinhai’s number and before dialing asked her, “What would you like to eat?”
Wen Zhi shook her head, “I don’t have an appetite.”
Shang Hexing said, “How about we order a porridge, and you try to eat a little?”
Wen Zhi had no appetite at all, but Shang Hexing cared about her health more than she did. Not wanting to worry him, she had to agree, “Okay.”
Afterward, Shang Hexing called Chen Jinhai to make the arrangements.
While he was on the phone, Wen Zhi quietly watched him. When he ended the call, she mustered the courage to ask, “Aren’t you going to ask me anything?”
Shang Hexing placed the phone on the cupboard, his expression calm, “What do you wish me to ask you?”
Wen Zhi bit her lips.
Shang Hexing handed her a cup of warm water, “I won’t ask. If you want to say something, you’ll say it eventually.”
Wen Zhi took the cup and drank it all in one go, took a deep breath, and then finally voiced out, “You can ask me.”
Having said that, she looked straight at Shang Hexing.
Shang Hexing took the cup back from her hand, “Were you scared when you cut your hand?”
Wen Zhi felt a lump in her throat and tasted bitterness.
She thought Shang Hexing’s first question might be—why did she choose such an extreme path, or why she had to kill Chong Wanyin.
But she had not expected that he would ask about her state of mind when she cut her hand.
“I wasn’t scared at that time.” As she replied, her voice was as light as a feather, and she dared not look into his eyes anymore.
Shang Hexing looked at her, “What else?”
Wen Zhi breathed in, speaking truthfully, “I originally wanted to sever this…”
“Alright, no need to say more.” Shang Hexing couldn’t bear to hear more and signaled that Wen Zhi didn’t need to continue.
Wen Zhi couldn’t feel his anger, but looking at his face, it was clearly a display of anger.
“I’m sorry, I won’t do such foolish things again,” Wen Zhi assured him.
This time, she apologized to him for the second time.
Shang Hexing’s brow furrowed, “Wen Zhi.”
Wen Zhi immediately responded with a hum.
All of a sudden, Shang Hexing got up from the chair to sit by the bed, looking at her closely, “Can you promise me that?”
Wen Zhi nodded, “I can, I…”
Before she could finish, Shang Hexing interrupted her. His face was so serious at that moment, letting Wen Zhi know that his next words were also very important.
He said, “Promise me that no matter what happens, you will never do anything as foolish as today. You must also know that Shang Hexing will always be by your side. He will never abandon you, never leave you, and you can rest assured to rely on him.”
Wen Zhi was stunned.
Her tears almost fell directly from the corners of her eyes, landing on the blanket without brewing in her eyes first.
Shang Hexing reached out to wipe the tears from her cheeks, “Can you promise me that?”
Wen Zhi closed her eyes, “Actually…”
Seeing her hesitation, Shang Hexing probed, “Actually, what?”
Wen Zhi took a deep breath, slowly opened her eyes, and mustered a great deal of courage to speak out, “…the lord rests on the high platform while I dwell on Spring Mountain—this perhaps is our destined end.”
He stood on high, endowed with the highest power.
And she, unable to reach him, could only live a peaceful life.
This was the status gap between them, where the high platform and Spring Mountain represented the most decent outcome.
“So, this is why you have always been refusing me?” Shang Hexing was not angry, but calmly sought clarity from her.
Wen Zhi nodded, “Because continuing together, we would still have no result. Clinging to each other till the end, it’s meaningless. The outcome will always be the same, unchangeable.”
Shang Hexing sighed, “You’ve never tried to get close to me, how can you be so sure that we indeed have no possibilities?”
Wen Zhi felt uneasy, “But…”
“There are no buts. I want you, and only you.” Shang Hexing’s attitude toward Wen Zhi was very determined, “I said I would marry you, and I definitely will marry you. That’s my promise to you.”
Wen Zhi’s breath caught in her throat.
At that moment, a gentle knock sounded at the door.
Shang Hexing’s brow creased, and he said sternly, “Come in.”
The moment the door opened, Wen Zhi immediately turned her head to compose herself, but the waves in her heart could not be calmed for a long time.
Just because of Shang Hexing—I said I would marry you, and I definitely will marry you.
This was his promise to her.
His promise to marry her.
Could they truly have a future together?
“Mr. Shang, the porridge is here.” Chen Jinhai walked in carrying a thermal container.
He first placed the porridge on the cupboard, moved the table over, and then set the thermal container on it before opening it.
Shang Hexing said, “You go out, I can handle it.”
Chen Jinhai withdrew his hand and nodded, but before leaving he specifically mentioned, “Well… I brought an extra portion of porridge, Mr. Shang, you haven’t eaten anything today; your health is important.”
Shang Hexing turned to look at Chen Jinhai with a warning in his eyes.
Wen Zhi immediately asked, “Shang Hexing, how can you go without eating for a whole day?”
