Sharing Dreams with My Bestie’s Cousin -
Chapter 149 - 149 Taste
Chapter 149: Taste Chapter 149: Taste Shang Hexing had a cold expression on his face and didn’t say anything as he turned and went inside.
Wen Zhi hurried after him and asked as they walked, “Wasn’t the meeting supposed to start around eleven? How come you’re back so early?”
Shang Hexing spoke in a very light tone, “Do you think I came back early because I knew Liang Yin was here?”
Wen Zhi felt his tone was chilly, “I didn’t think that, just found it surprising.”
“There’s nothing surprising about it.”
Shang Hexing stepped forward into the living room, walked around the atrium, and went upstairs.
Wen Zhi stood still, staring at his ascending figure; she couldn’t feel much anger from Shang Hexing, but he was unmistakably aloof.
Was it because she had told Liang Yin the phone number that he was unhappy?
Wen Zhi found Meng Fan and shared the situation with her to get her analysis. Meng Fan had left the terrace right after Liang Yin’s first departure, so she was unaware of what happened afterward and was wondering why Wen Zhi hadn’t come to find her yet.
After listening to Wen Zhi, Meng Fan clicked her tongue, grabbed a bottle of soda and opened it, “Liang Yin actually launched a second attack. But from what you’ve said, it’s clear that Uncle is just jealous.”
Wen Zhi muttered, “Jealous.”
“You’re both boyfriend and girlfriend, and yet you willingly gave your contact information to another man coveting you right in front of Uncle. It would be odd if Uncle wasn’t jealous.” Saying this, Meng Fan raised her hand and gently patted Wen Zhi’s head, “You should be grateful your boyfriend is stable enough not to lose his mind outright.”
Wen Zhi shook her head, “No, we’re not boyfriend and girlfriend.”
Meng Fan took a sip of her soda, eyes widening, “Huh?”
Wen Zhi shook her head again, “Not yet.”
Meng Fan set her soda aside, moved closer to Wen Zhi, her face in disbelief, “Don’t tell me Uncle hasn’t given you an official status yet?”
Wen Zhi remained silent; more precisely, she hadn’t given him that status.
Seeing Wen Zhi’s reaction, Meng Fan became even more convinced, “I thought you two officially got together when you returned from Harbor City.”
But Wen Zhi just shook her head.
She reached out, picked a lemon candy from the exquisite little box in front of her, and peeled it before popping it into her mouth. The sweet and sticky taste spread in her mouth, settling her mood.
These were brought by Meng Fan.
Both good-looking and delicious.
At the moment, as Wen Zhi savored the lemon candy and propped her chin with one hand, she hesitated whether to tell Meng Fan that she hadn’t given Shang Hexing a status.
While she hesitated, Meng Fan leaned in and asked, “Isn’t it that Uncle doesn’t want to give you the status of a girlfriend? His position does necessitate being cautious, but surely being cautious about a girlfriend status isn’t necessary, is it? You’re with him, and if he still hasn’t made it clear, you should just leave him.”
These words were from Meng Fan considering Wen Zhi’s perspective.
Because of her own troubled love life, she definitely needed to hold this umbrella for Wen Zhi.
Wen Zhi appreciated Meng Fan’s kindness and eventually chose to tell her, “Actually, I haven’t given him that status.”
A worried Meng Fan: ?
What??
Wen Zhi, feeling guilty, dared not meet Meng Fan’s eyes, “In Harbor City, he mentioned it a few times, but I never responded directly. He brought it up again after we came back, I…”
Meng Fan interrupted, “Did you still not respond to him?”
Wen Zhi chewed the candy into pieces and nodded, “Yeah.”
“My Lord!” At this moment, the shock inside Meng Fan was indescribable, “Zhizhi, you’re actually stringing Uncle along without giving him a status. Uncle is who? He is really… See how capable you are!”
By the end of her statement, the corners of Meng Fan’s mouth had turned up into a smirk.
It was an expression full of pride.
From Meng Fan’s perspective, Wen Zhi was very capable because she was able to keep a hold on such a powerful person.
“So what should I do now?” Wen Zhi actively sought advice from Meng Fan, her words infused with the sweet scent of lemon candy.
Meng Fan smelled the sweet fragrance of the lemon candy and smiled mischievously, “You actually came to find me, but really, you should be looking for Uncle Shang now, you silly goose.”
Wen Zhi realized, “You mean, I should go and coax him now?”
Meng Fan nodded, “Yes, don’t think Uncle Shang won’t admit it, but he surely rushed back because he knew his rival in love had arrived. He’s afraid that if he’s not at home, you would be swept away by the rival.”
Wen Zhi bit her lip and smiled, then stood up, “I understand, I’ll go find him right now.”
As Wen Zhi left, Meng Fan clicked her tongue twice, “Zhizhi is really dense when it comes to relationships. Luckily, Uncle Shang is reliable, otherwise, she would suffer a lot in love.”
Unlike her, who had never tasted the sweetness of love.
–
Meanwhile, Wen Zhi had already arrived outside Shang Hexing’s study.
She knocked on the door, and a voice came from inside—
“Come in.”
Wen Zhi pushed down the door handle and entered.
What came into view were layers upon layers of bookshelves. Shang Hexing stood next to the bookshelf, holding a book, with sunlight filtering through the lattice window casting shadows on the floor, some of which fell on Shang Hexing.
He had already changed out of his jacket, wearing a satin white shirt underneath— he always liked this material for its good texture and comfort.
When the door opened, he glanced sideways, saw it was Wen Zhi entering, and then refocused on the book in his hand, asking coldly, “What is it?”
His tone was cool and indifferent.
Wen Zhi moved closer to Shang Hexing, with the light and shadow also spilling some on her. She raised a pleasing smile, “I have something to tell you.”
As soon as she spoke, the sweet fragrance of the lemon candy faintly enveloped Shang Hexing’s nose. His brows twitched slightly, and he looked at her sideways, “What is it?”
The light and shadow cast on her delicate face made her features appear three parts naive and seven parts vivid.
Wen Zhi lightly bit her lip, “I know you rushed back because you found out that Liang Yin had come to Qionglou.”
Shang Hexing’s gaze returned to his book, “You’re overthinking it.”
“Really, am I overthinking it?” Wen Zhi leaned in closer to him.
The sweet fragrance filled his nostrils, smelling very good. He slightly turned to the side, his Adam’s apple moved slightly as he briefly glanced over his sentiments, “Yes, you’re overthinking it. If there’s nothing else, please leave.”
He was starting to send her away.
His anger had not yet subsided.
Wen Zhi raised her slender wrist, took the initiative to hook his arm, “There’s nothing between Liang Yin and me. I gave him my contact to prevent him from coming to Qionglou frequently.”
Shang Hexing glanced at the hand on his arm, lifted it up to put the book back on the shelf, and picked up another one, “Is this your explanation?”
As he lifted his arm, Wen Zhi’s hand naturally fell from his arm, and she felt somewhat disappointed, “If you think so, then so be it.”
She turned around to think of another way.
However, Shang Hexing misunderstood and thought she was leaving.
Just a few words and she’s no longer coaxing him?
He couldn’t let go of his pride, and just as she turned, he asked unintentionally, “What did you eat just now?”
Wen Zhi paused slightly for two seconds, then immediately turned her head back to answer him, “Lemon candy… I guess.”
She had grabbed one carelessly, not paying much attention.
“Really?” His gaze deepened.
Wen Zhi was about to confirm, then in the next second, she saw Shang Hexing put the book back, took her hand, and pressed her against the bookshelf.
Then he leaned over, bowed his head, and grasped her chin to lift her face, “Let me taste.”
