Seeking Fortune and Avoiding Misfortune: Starting from the Celestial Master’s Mansion -
Chapter 147: Master Lei does good deeds without leaving his name
The black Thunder-Water was silent.
Thus, the Lin Clan disciples didn’t notice it until the Thunder-Water reached their feet. When the Thunder-Water erupted on their bodies, only then did it produce a crackling “zzzz” sound of electricity.
But by that point, the Thunder-Water had already adhered to them; it was too late to escape.
As scions of a prestigious family, the Lin disciples had vast resources and protective Spiritual Items granted by their elders. However, these items had been largely depleted in the battles on Tiansong Mountain.
Now entangled by the black Thunder-Water, they could only rely on their own skills to barely defend themselves.
Those practicing Confucian Classics managed to release their Sword Qi externally, faring a bit better.
Those specializing in Confucian Archery could only rely on their Righteous Qi to bolster their bodies and endure the onslaught.
The worst off were the disciples of the Confucian Chanting branch. If they had time to react, they could chant poems to summon the Spiritual Energy of heaven and earth for protection, potentially achieving the best defense.
But with the Thunder-Water already on them, they were caught off guard. Their frail bodies stood no chance and were quickly consumed by the black Thunder-Water, their flesh charred and mangled.
The remaining three or four disciples practicing Classics and Archery struggled to resist the Thunder-Water’s erosion while trying to escape. However, they quickly realized that the surrounding area was pitch black, filled with silent yet utterly ferocious Thunder-Water.
It was Lei Jun’s Gui-Water Yin Thunder.
After evolving from Water Dark Thunder, this Gui-Water Yin Thunder transformed the world’s rigid power into extreme softness. Its scale expanded from a black Dark River into what seemed like a vast black Sea of Thunder.
The Lin Clan disciples were now trapped in this ocean of Yin Thunder, unable to escape.
Desperately, they glanced back toward Tiansong Mountain, hoping their Sixth Granduncle could save them.
But what they saw chilled them to the bone.
In the distance, the fierce battle between the Great Demon and the Great Confucian had reached a fever pitch, their clash sweeping through the surrounding mountains.
Yet the surging Sword Qi was clearly being overpowered.
Was that… a Two-Polar Vulture with the strength of an Eighth Heaven cultivator?!
The chaotic battlefield, filled with raging Demonic Qi, disrupted even the mystical techniques of the Confucian scholars.
There was truly no way out, no hope of rescue.
Despair engulfed the Lin disciples.
One of them let out a painful scream.
Looking down, he saw his lower body consumed by black Thunder-Water, as if it had been dipped in thick, black ink.
Gritting his teeth, he made a decision.
A strange crystal stone suddenly glowed in his hand.
The crystal shone brightly, and the disciple shouted, his body freezing as if his soul had left him.
The strange crystal stone floated into the air.
The other Lin disciples were shocked.
One of them, knowledgeable in such matters, exclaimed, “Where did you get such a sinister item? If the Sixth Granduncle finds out, he’ll skin you alive!”
The crystal flashed repeatedly, revealing the disciple’s face. He roared, “Survival comes first! Who cares about the rules now?!”
Of the remaining three, two hesitated. The other shouted, “Together! Let’s go together!”
At the brink of death, he abandoned his principles, releasing his Spirit to merge with the crystal.
The crystal’s glow grew brighter, its aura more sinister.
But suddenly, a vast, dull yellow Spiritual Light appeared in the air.
The light coalesced from six directions, forming an earthen structure that instantly trapped the crystal.
The two remaining Lin disciples hesitated between regret for missing their escape and relief for staying put.
But they had no time to think further. Small flames flickered behind each of them.
The flames, weak and wavering like candlelight, seemed ready to be snuffed out by a breeze.
Yet in the next instant, the flames erupted!
The compressed power of Thunder-Fire exploded violently. The instantaneous force was even more ferocious than the Thunder-Water.
This was one of Lei Jun’s Yin Five Thunder Arts—the Ding-Fire Yin Thunder.
Ding-Fire resembled candle flames, seemingly insignificant at first.
But once accumulated, its sudden explosion was devastating.
The two remaining Lin disciples were engulfed by the Thunder-Fire.
Their exhausted defenses shattered, and the Thunder-Water surged upward to consume them.
The Water Thunder and Fire Thunder intertwined, obliterating them completely.
As for the two empty shells of the disciples who had fled their bodies, they were devoured by the Thunder-Water even faster.
In the distance, Lei Jun held the Breath-Taking Flag and waved.
The earthen structure containing the strange crystal flew to him.
Typically, Lei Jun avoided looting the bodies of disciples from factions like the Shushan Sect, his own Tianshi Mansion, or the Lin Clan of Jiangzhou to avoid unforeseen complications.
He had refrained from collecting the Demonic Feathers in Yuhui Gorge for the same reason.
But hearing the Lin disciples mention the crystal as forbidden by their elders, Lei Jun decided to take it.
With the Demonic Qi disrupting the flow of Spiritual Energy, Lei Jun had no reservations about eliminating the Lin disciples.
Wrapping the earthen structure with the Breath-Taking Flag, he quickly cleaned the scene and left quietly, planning to inspect the crystal later.
As for the Sixth Granduncle fighting the Two-Polar Vulture on Tiansong Mountain, Lei Jun no longer cared.
Judging by the situation, the elder’s fate was sealed.
Even if he survived the Two-Polar Vulture, more trouble awaited him.
Lei Jun estimated that Zhang Jingzhen should be taking action by now.
In the battle, the Two-Polar Vulture held the absolute advantage and initiative. With its swift flying speed, it could leave whenever it wanted.
Seeing the Great Demon retreat, Shangguan Ning and Li Ziyang chose not to waste energy pursuing it. Their focus remained on the Lin Clan elder, giving him no chance to recover.
The Lin Clan’s Sixth Granduncle, having no strength left to search for any surviving clan members, fled northward in desperation.
Shangguan Ning and Li Ziyang, two Mount Longhu high elders, chased him relentlessly, injuring him severely. Had another Lin Clan expert not arrived to assist, Lin Chi, the elder, would never have made it back to the Lin Clan’s Jiangzhou stronghold alive.
Even with the aid, the battle turned into a two-on-two, yet the Lin elders were still at a disadvantage.
Li Ziyang practiced the Thunder Law Talismanic Canon.
Shangguan Ning wielded the Fire Law Talismanic Canon.
Together, the two high elders unleashed the Yang Thunder Dragon and Yin Fire Tiger, the supreme art of the Tianshi Mansion—the Dragon-Tiger Combined Strike. The combined technique severely injured Lin Chi and his fellow Lin elder.
Barely clinging to life, Lin Chi was carried back to Jiangzhou by his clansman.
Li Ziyang and Shangguan Ning finally halted their pursuit.
They regrouped with Zhang Jingzhen.
“How is it? Did you find the one who helped you?” Li Ziyang asked.
Zhang Jingzhen shook her head. “I couldn’t find any trace of them in the surrounding mountains. All I sensed was a high-level Earth-elemental Spell or artifact, but I couldn’t determine their lineage or why they helped me.”
Li Ziyang surveyed the mountains. “I recall, Jingzhen, you were heading to Chiyuan Grotto-Heaven for cultivation?”
Zhang Jingzhen nodded calmly. “During my cultivation, I encountered some doubts and decided to travel to clear my mind. Unfortunately, I was careless and gave the Lin Clan an opportunity. I apologize for troubling you and Third Martial Uncle.”
“It’s no trouble. We’re old rivals with the Lin Clan. Cutting off one of their claws is a good thing,” Li Ziyang said. “This also suggests that our disciple Zhenchang’s death was likely their doing.”
He brushed aside the matter for now and gazed toward Chiyuan Grotto-Heaven. “As for the mysterious person who saved you, who knows their motives or why they prefer to stay hidden?”
Shangguan Ning suggested, “Perhaps they acted out of justice but didn’t want to get involved in our conflict with the Lin Clan.”
Li Ziyang glanced at his Fifth Martial Sister. He sensed she had her doubts but chose not to voice them.
This was not a good sign.
“With demons lurking around, I just hope this person isn’t entangled with them,” Li Ziyang said with a faint smile. “Or perhaps it’s just a coincidence.”
With that, they took Zhang Jingzhen back to the Mount Longhu Ancestral Hall.
Shangguan Ning led Zhang Jingzhen to her private residence.
“Chongshan, Lei Chongyun, Yuan Martial Uncle’s disciple, also went to Chiyuan Grotto-Heaven, didn’t he?” Shangguan Ning instructed her chief disciple, Lin Shan. “Has Lei returned to the mountain yet?”
Lin Shan bowed and left to check.
Zhang Jingzhen spoke softly. “When I left Chiyuan Branch Estate, Lei Junior Brother was still there.”
Shangguan Ning nodded thoughtfully. “Do you think it was him?”
Zhang Jingzhen hesitated. “Lei Junior Brother has grown more remarkable, but his current cultivation level shouldn’t allow him to act so covertly.”
“True,” Shangguan Ning agreed. “But perhaps he’ll surprise us again.”
Later, Lin Shan returned with news. “Master, Lei Junior Brother returned before midnight and went to Yuan Martial Uncle’s grotto. Reports from Chiyuan Branch say he left in the afternoon.”
Zhang Jingzhen calculated the timing. If Lei Jun had traveled at full speed, he could have returned in time. But if he was the one who saved her, he wouldn’t have had enough time to escape the Lin Clan and rush back.
Still…
Lei Jun’s image lingered in her mind, the doubts unresolved.
“Rest for now, Jingzhen,” Shangguan Ning said, her tone neutral.
Lin Shan’s report was accurate—yet not entirely.
In reality, Lei Jun had only just returned to the mountain.
Having left the Tiansong Mountain area, where the Demonic Qi no longer interfered with the flow of Spiritual Energy, and with the Lin elder no longer masking heavenly insight, Lei Jun contacted his master, Yuan Mobai, immediately.
As the presiding elder of the Ten Thousand Methods Sect Altar, Yuan Mobai rarely left the mountain. But from there, he could mask his disciple’s movements.
Thus, Lei Jun remained outside, while others believed he had already returned.
When he did return, Yuan Mobai continued the ruse.
“Doing good without seeking fame, showing kindness without expecting reward,” the purple-robed youth said with a smile, observing Lei Jun. “You truly have the demeanor of a righteous hero of old.”
Lei Jun responded earnestly, “I simply follow your teachings, Master. I still have much to learn. Please guide me.”
Yuan Mobai chuckled and shook his head. “As long as your cultivation advances, even if you draw attention, maintain your focus and consistency. In daily life, a little more peace and tranquility won’t hurt. As for the favor you did today, Zhang Jingzhen may repay it one day.”
Lei Jun replied, “Whether she repays it or not, it doesn’t matter. Last night, I acted on impulse; it wasn’t entirely for Zhang Senior Sister.”
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have finished off those Lin Clan disciples.
According to his usual approach, if someone drew a Lower-Bad Omen, he would exploit their misfortune, but he wouldn’t go out of his way to kill.
Everything was a gift of fate.
Lei Daozhang’s hands remained clean.
Having broken that rule this time, he wouldn’t publicly claim credit.
Hearing Lei Jun’s words, Yuan Mobai looked at him carefully. His smile remained, but his gaze turned serious. “It wasn’t just about the feud between our sect and the Lin Clan?”
Lei Jun calmly replied, “Not entirely.”
Yuan Mobai nodded slightly and said no more. Instead, he smiled and said, “Since you returned early and know nothing of last night’s events, go rest now.”
Lei Jun smiled back. “Yes, Master.”
After bidding farewell to Yuan Mobai, Lei Jun returned to his residence.
Only now did he have time to inspect the night’s spoils.
Besides the Southern Extreme Cold Iron, there was the strange crystal taken from the Lin disciples.
He unsealed the earthen barrier, and the crystal reappeared.
When Lei Jun touched the crystal with his Daoist Energy, a name appeared in his mind:
