Chapter 134: Chapter 134: Taking the Initiative

An Junxi was thinking about how to respond to her mother-in-law when Gu Yikun chimed in, "I heard that Xiao Yang and Yu Chen will be there today, it’s just a small gathering."

Since Gu Yikun had spoken, Liang Huiyun naturally didn’t ask further, "Then you need to keep an eye on your sister, don’t let her play too wildly."

An Junxi looked at her husband, moved. He practically had a halo over his head!

Seeing the worshipful look on his little wife’s face, Gu Yikun’s lips curled into a smile. He picked up her favorite dishes, put them into her bowl, and whispered in her ear, "How are you going to thank me tonight?"

An Junxi blushed, pinched his thigh under the table, and then looked up to see Gu Qianlan glaring at her with resentment.

An Junxi felt very innocent. Gu Qianlan was too funny, feeling wronged because she hadn’t done anything? Or was it because Gu Yikun only helped her and not Gu Qianlan?

An Junxi automatically ignored Gu Qianlan’s resentment and happily picked some dishes for Jin Xiu.

After the meal, Liu Zhiwen bid farewell to everyone. Her driver was waiting outside. An Junxi and Gu Qianlan walked her to the door.

Liu Zhiwen said, "Junxi, many of my classmates will be there, so you and Brother Gu should attend as a couple, okay?"

"No problem."

Liu Zhiwen confirmed the time with her and added just before getting into the car, "I almost forgot, Sister Miaoyan will also be there. She doesn’t have a dance partner. Qianlan, who do you think could pair up with her?"

Gu Qianlan didn’t have any goodwill towards Zhang Miaoyan, "How would I know? Why are you even inviting her?"

An Junxi also wanted to ask this. Liu Zhiwen replied, "I initially invited Brother Yue. She might have overheard and offered to come. I couldn’t just refuse her."

Gu Qianlan folded her arms, very displeased, "Why does she have to be everywhere?"

Liu Zhiwen could see she was unhappy and said, "I’ll see how it goes and make arrangements accordingly." She said goodbye, got into the car, and soon Zhang Miaoyan called her, "Zhiwen, are you home?"

"Just left Qianlan’s place."

"So, will President Gu be there too?"

Liu Zhiwen was puzzled. Zhang Miaoyan’s focus was really strange; it was her birthday, why was she more concerned about others? "Brother Gu said he would attend."

Zhang Miaoyan said, "Okay then, I won’t bother you anymore. Xiao Yang and I will be there on time."

Only after Liu Zhiwen’s car left did An Junxi and Gu Qianlan return to their house, where Seventh Uncle’s wife told Gu Qianlan, "Young Miss, Madam wants you to go to your room."

Grumbling, Gu Qianlan went upstairs. An Junxi followed behind to Gu Jin Xiu’s room, where she read him a few bedtime stories before leaving. She was just about to go downstairs when she saw Gu Qianlan burst out of her mother’s room, slamming the door behind her.

Liang Huiyun chased after her into the hallway, "Gu Qianlan, don’t think I can’t control you!"

Gu Qianlan shouted back, "You’ve been controlling me for over twenty years, isn’t that enough!"

"You..."

Gu Qianlan ran downstairs, refusing to listen to her mother anymore.

An Junxi stood there awkwardly. Since her mother-in-law had seen her, she couldn’t pretend nothing had happened. She had to comfort her, "Mother, do you not want us to go to the Liu Family?"

Liu Zhiwen had been a good guest all evening, without causing any trouble, so why didn’t her mother-in-law like her?

Liang Huiyun, still furious, returned to her room and said, "The Liu Family is nothing but a facade, using their connection to the Yin Family to climb the social ladder. Liu Guanquan is not a decent person, and his daughter isn’t likely to be any better. Qianlan is spoiled by me, completely unable to distinguish right from wrong, good from bad, and she doesn’t listen when I try to teach her."

An Junxi didn’t really understand the Liu Family’s background, only knowing that Liu Zhiwen was Yin Feibai’s cousin.

Liang Huiyun continued, "You still have a lot to learn about the intricate relationships of major families. In business, there’s no eternal friends or enemies. As Yikun’s wife, you need to be smarter and not cause him trouble. Situations like today’s should’ve been declined right away. The Gu Family president isn’t someone they can just casually invite, going to their house would lower our status."

An Junxi was drenched in sweat from the scolding but internally agreed that she hadn’t been up to par as Mrs. Gu.

Seeing that An Junxi was listening, Liang Huiyun added, "Since Liu Guanquan and his wife won’t be there, and it’s mostly young people, it shouldn’t cause any problems. Since you’ve agreed, just go."

"Okay, I’ll be more careful with what I say and do in the future," An Junxi said to make up for her mistake. "Mother, let me make you some soothing tea."

Liang Huiyun didn’t refuse her kindness, "Go ahead."

Only after leaving the room did An Junxi breathe a sigh of relief. My goodness, she had just casually agreed to a small party, who knew it would lead to so many complications!

As she went downstairs to make the tea, she saw Gu Kuangyong there too. She prepared a cup for him as well, "Father, have some soothing tea, it’ll help you sleep."

Gu Kuangyong gestured for her to sit, saying, "I heard from Miaoyan that she unintentionally did something wrong in Yikun’s office a few days ago, and you happened to see it. She’s worried you might misunderstand, so she asked me to mention it to you."

An Junxi was annoyed that Zhang Miaoyan would bring this up to her father-in-law. Was she talking too much?

"I didn’t think much of it, I know it was an accident."

Gu Kuangyong felt relieved, "I knew you weren’t someone to hold grudges. Miaoyan isn’t a bad person, she works hard and is diligent. Don’t hold any prejudice against her."

An Junxi was now confused; her father-in-law and mother-in-law had two completely different views. Who should she listen to?

Her mind was a mess, and she mumbled, "Okay."

Seeing another cup of soothing tea on the table, Gu Kuangyong asked, "Is this for Yikun?"

Coming back to her senses, An Junxi replied, "It’s for Mother. Father, would you mind taking it to her?"

The kindness vanished from Gu Kuangyong’s face. He snorted, "She probably sleeps very well every night, what does she need soothing tea for?"

An Junxi said, "Father, just this once. Mother has been accompanying Seventh Uncle and looking after Qianlan, she must be really tired."

Gu Kuangyong remained unmoved.

An Junxi decided to escape, "Thank you, Father!"

Gu Kuangyong watched her rush upstairs in a daze. He hadn’t agreed to deliver the tea!

But he reluctantly took the tea upstairs anyway.

Seeing this from the hallway, An Junxi secretly laughed before returning to her room, hoping that the two elders would reconcile soon, so her life would be easier!

In the room, Gu Yikun was reading at his desk. An Junxi walked up behind him and hugged his neck, "Husband, I made a mistake tonight."

"What did you do wrong?"

"I shouldn’t have agreed so casually to attend Liu Zhiwen’s birthday party," especially now that she knew Zhang Miaoyan would be there. An Junxi felt she had made a huge mistake!

Gu Yikun hugged her, asking, "Did Mother say something to you again?"

"No."

Suddenly, An Junxi had an epiphany. Since Zhang Miaoyan had her father-in-law’s support and they couldn’t avoid seeing each other, she might as well take the initiative to interact with her more, to see what she really wanted.
