Chapter 961: 012 blurt out

When Avery Graham got home, Giselle Browman had already arrived, "How come you got off work so early today?"

Working at a foreign company, overtime was common; even if there was no overtime, Giselle would attend gatherings with colleagues and rarely came back this early.

"Hmm, there wasn’t much to do at the company, so I came back. Sis, what would you like to eat tonight?" Giselle hopped over to Avery and acted cute.

"Let’s go out to eat. I’ll go freshen up," Avery contemplated for a moment, realizing there was nothing prepared at home. She was tired from a day’s work and didn’t feel like cooking, and Giselle, after a day at work, must be tired too.

"Okay, I’ll wait for you," Giselle nodded, looking quite natural.

Avery gave her a look but eventually did not ask any questions. She went in to wash her face and then came out, "What do you feel like eating?"

"How about steak? I feel like we haven’t gone to eat it in a long time," Giselle said with a smile before withdrawing her gaze. For some reason, she just didn’t dare to make eye contact with Avery, fearing she could not hold herself back and would end up saying things she shouldn’t - not because of Michael Auclair, but because she promised Bernard Taylor.

"Okay," Avery nodded, "but there’s no rush. I made some extra egg tarts today; let’s have some first."

Those two boxes of egg tarts were originally made specially for Michael’s mother and Jollie Auclair, but now she felt there was no need for that anymore. She was worried that once her relationship with Michael was over, Giselle, with her forthright nature, might be taken advantage of.

She had also come to a realization that Michael’s wish to break up must have been premeditated; otherwise, why would the team leader position originally intended for Giselle suddenly be given to someone else?

"Hmm, sure," Giselle nodded, her favorite thing to eat were the egg tarts that Avery made, "Save one box for my breakfast tomorrow, okay, sis?"

"Hmm, of course, Giselle. Did anything happen at the office today?" Avery asked, guessing that if she didn’t, Giselle would not bring it up on her own.

"Huh? No, nothing. Sis, why do you ask?" Giselle swiftly looked up to deny it.

She was unsure if Avery’s question meant that Avery knew something; anyway, as long as she didn’t confess willingly, there should be no problem.

"It’s nothing much; Michael’s mom and sister came today, and before I came back, I got a call from Michael saying he wanted to break up. I thought he might give you a hard time because I think he must have planned the breakup beforehand." Avery said calmly.

In truth, she felt that saying Michael had planned it all along didn’t quite line up logically. If it was premeditated, then he shouldn’t have taken her to meet his parents. However, it’s also possible meeting the parents was precisely for a smoother breakup.

No matter what, they had broken up, and she wasn’t sad at all, even though she was the one being dumped. Okay, now when she went back home, if her mom asked why they broke up again, she could proudly say she was dumped.

So her mother wouldn’t think she had raised an extraordinary daughter. See, now she had been dumped. If she were really that remarkable, would she get dumped?

"...Sis, Michael mentioned breaking up with you?" Giselle put the egg tart down, took a closer look at Avery’s expression, and noticed Avery seemed fairly normal.

"Yeah, I guess his sister must have said a lot of bad things about me in front of him. No worries; actually his parents are quite nice. I just can’t stand his sister," said Avery, not at all concerned.

"Sis, you really aren’t upset at all?" Giselle asked again, not entirely sure.

"Why would I be upset?" Avery retorted. She wasn’t the kind of irrational woman who would cry, make a scene, or threaten suicide every time a man proposed breaking up.

"That’s good you’re not upset. I’ve already submitted my resignation. I don’t want to work there anymore," Giselle breathed a sigh of relief, genuinely concerned Avery might be upset by the situation.

As long as Avery wasn’t upset, that was good. It seemed her previous suspicion was correct: Avery didn’t like Michael, and agreeing to the matchmaking must have been for their aunt.

"That’s actually what I wanted to discuss with you. Working at the foreign company is great, but given the current circumstances, I think it’s better to leave. If you can’t find a good job for a while, come help out at my shop. I’ll make you the shop manager; you manage the shop for me, and it’ll ease my burden," Avery said with a smile.
