Chapter 878: 015 The Truth of the Big Fire_3
"Oh right, how could I have forgotten this? Since it’s a lifesaver, I put it in a safe deposit box at the bank. It’s the weekend today. Wait for me, I’ll call my client manager to arrange to retrieve it tomorrow morning," Zoey Parker slapped her forehead. It had been three years since their mother passed away. In these years, their days had been peaceful, and she had pushed the matter to the back of her mind.
"Alright, you handle that. We’ll just give it our all, and if that fails, so be it. It’s not like pleasing them has done us any favors. As long as we can live a little easier in the future, that’s fine," Alexander Parker nodded. For the sake of his wife and sister, he was willing to give it one more try. However, what would it amount to? He wondered if the two women had considered that their father was getting on in years and would likely pass away before them. If his abilities did not improve dramatically, there were many ambitious people within the group.
Perhaps, by that time, if the group fell into the hands of those ambitious individuals, their lives might be worse off than if they had handed the group over to Ryan Parker. However, he couldn’t persuade the two women before him.
So be it.
The next day, Zoey Parker went to the bank and retrieved the item. In the presence of her big brother and sister-in-law, she also called Jack Parker and Oscar Parker, since they were all children of their mother. Anything their mother left behind should be known to them all.
When the box was opened, inside was a long letter, along with several photographs.
All five of them read the letter and looked at the photographs. Everyone was stunned. Their kind and gentle mother, who couldn’t even bear to watch a servant slaughter a chicken, had gone to such lengths to pave the way for her four children.
It turned out that Ellie Wilton indeed had a son years ago. Even though she deceived Marcus Parker, claiming the child was aborted while still in her womb, she had actually not gone through with the abortion. If she had, Hannah Browman wouldn’t have been living in fear.
Hannah Browman knew that even with her mother-in-law’s protection, it was useless without the protection of a man. Fully aware of this, she had been restless ever since learning that Ellie Wilton had given birth to their son, Noah Wilton, behind Marcus Parker’s back.
Because that child was a ticking time bomb, after much deliberation, she decided that for the sake of her four children, Ellie Wilton’s child could not be spared.
She had never done anything like this before, but as a mother, she had to consider her children’s future. Even though Ellie had promised her mother-in-law not to destroy her family and to have no impact on them, life is unpredictable, and people’s hearts are inscrutable. Therefore, she would not trust Ellie’s empty promises.
If Ellie truly didn’t want to affect their family, she should not have given birth to the child behind their backs. Thus, Hannah Browman felt backed into a corner by this woman.
Previously, she simply hoped that Marcus Parker would stay by her side, but now she had to think of her children. Marcus adored Ellie too much. Once he found out they had a son together, her four children’s future would undoubtedly depend on Ellie’s whims. She could not bear to see her children humiliated like that.
So, she was grateful she had always kept tabs on Ellie.
Later, a tragedy struck the family of the dean of Fortstar Orphanage, who was Ellie’s close friend. Hannah saw her opportunity and convinced Marcus to bring Ellie back.
For years, although this man was by her side, his heart belonged to that woman, and he came home on time every day. Her mother-in-law was pleased, but she was not. As a woman, she had a uniquely sensitive mindset.
Thus, she knew that no matter how hard she tried, she could never win back her husband’s heart. They might appear to be husband and wife on the surface, but their relationship lacked the feelings that a marriage should have.
Since the feelings were gone, she might as well take the easy route and let him be with Ellie. After all, her status as Mrs. Parker could not be taken away, and Ellie had no intention of taking it.
But she had to protect her children’s interests. Therefore, the child that should never have been born had lived a few years too many in this world.
She had initially planned to have the dean take care of it, but the dean couldn’t bear to do it. So, she personally orchestrated a shocking crime. Simply killing one child would not look accidental. So, she caused a massive fire at the orphanage, delayed a few minutes, and then someone called 119.
