She didn’t want to analyze too much. She just wanted to know why Bryan Hawkins had come back and didn’t tell her, and even last night, he didn’t send a single message. She still sent him a Good Morning message wishing him a happy holiday.

Originally, Carolline Ruiz didn’t have to work today, but Avery Graham had something urgent to do at 6 o’clock in the morning. So she agreed to help cover a day’s worth of work for her since their relationship was good enough, and she had nothing else to do anyway.

But after being woken up at six o’clock, she couldn’t sleep anymore. She picked up her phone and flipped through it until she saw the first news item on the website, which was about Bryan Hawkins and Matilda Ferguson.

Their embrace almost brought her to tears.

Carolline Ruiz was heartbroken, and she almost missed work at eight o’clock. She was not concentrating on her work, and the head nurse had looked at her several times. Seeing her poor state, the head nurse didn’t ask her to do anything.

It wasn’t until a child with a high fever was sent to their Surgical Department for infusion that the head nurse called Carolline Ruiz. Since there was a shortage of beds in Pediatrics, the head nurse noticed that Carolline Ruiz was the best at giving injections among their nurses, and so she called her.

Carolline Ruiz started preparing immediately, and the head nurse, worried that she would not be in the right state of mind for work, kindly reminded her, “Carolline, no matter what personal issues you have, you need to concentrate fully when working. We medical staff have to adhere to our professional principles. Do you understand?”

“Yes, head nurse.” Carolline Ruiz nodded and even gave her a military salute, and then turned off her phone in front of the head nurse.

The next second, Bryan Hawkins’ call came through, but he was told that the phone was switched off.

Naturally, Carolline Ruiz knew nothing about all this. Moreover, the head nurse was her teacher, and her words were like valuable advice that she always had to remember.

So, she pulled herself together, went to give the child an injection, and her medical skills were indeed excellent. “No need to thank me; this is what we should do.” Carolline Ruiz said with a smile. From then on, she was very dedicated to her work, and she enthusiastically attended to patients who needed medicine changes. The head nurse looked on and was very satisfied.

The head nurse was grooming Carolline Ruiz to be her successor, not only because she was Henry Ruiz’s daughter but also because she could take on the role of head nurse.

Even though Carolline Ruiz had only been working for a few months, the head nurse knew that she was the right choice.

Near the end of her shift, the child’s mother bought a lot of fruit to satisfy her son’s hunger, and she picked two big, sweet apples to give to Carolline Ruiz. Carolline didn’t want to accept them, but the child’s mother insisted, so she finally agreed.

Carrying the two big apples, Carolline Ruiz took the elevator downstairs. The moment the elevator door opened, Bryan Hawkins was standing outside. Carolline Ruiz was momentarily stunned and thought she was dreaming.

For a moment, Carolline Ruiz had forgotten to leave. Bryan Hawkins simply looked at her, and the elevator door suddenly closed. Fortunately, Bryan Hawkins quickly pressed the open button and pulled Carolline Ruiz out just in time. “So, after hiding from me all morning, are you going to hide again?”

“…” Carolline Ruiz didn’t know what to say. She hadn’t been hiding from him; she had been working as usual.

“If I told you that I was set up, would you believe me?” Bryan Hawkins asked without waiting for Carolline Ruiz. He wanted to explain to her, but seeing her face, he didn’t know how to explain.

Carolline Ruiz hadn’t turned on her phone all morning, and Bryan Hawkins had no choice but to wait at the hospital entrance for a while before finally deciding to go upstairs to look for her.

He didn’t expect that Carolline Ruiz also had a temper, but he didn’t mind at all.

“If it’s once, it might be forgivable, but if it happens repeatedly, how would you explain it?” Carolline Ruiz looked out of the window, not directly answering whether she believed it or not but used a rhetorical question to let him know that she didn’t really believe it, but she wanted to.
