Chapter 710: Chapter 710: Jasmine Ruiz’s Miscarriage (8)
Bryan thought back to last night when Scarlett Cervantes had him drink that wine. She must have drugged it.
"Did you drug me?" Bryan spouted, fueled by anger.
"You never make decisions, so I had to make one for you." Scarlett sounded so wronged.
"You—" Bryan couldn’t believe that this woman would stoop so low, "She’s pregnant, you know? You dare to provoke a pregnant woman, to go so far. Aren’t you afraid of divine retribution?"
"Bryan, my family gave you money, yet you are still not willing to get a divorce. You got us all tangled up, and you are not afraid of divine retribution, why should I be?" Scarlett wasn’t apologetic at all.
Bryan didn’t want to talk anymore. He hastily got up, dressed, and was about to leave.
"Before you leave, Jasmine already saw the video of us. Think about how you’re going to explain it. I’ll be waiting for the news of your divorce." Scarlett stood not far away, laughing flippantly.
"Even if we’re divorced, I will never marry you, Scarlett. Don’t daydream." Bryan’s hatred seethed beneath his words.
At that moment, he was yet to realize that everything was out of his control.
Upon returning to the Ruiz Family home, a servant told him that the lady Jasmine was taken to the hospital. He arrived there to see his pale wife lying in bed, regret drowning him.
He had been so wary of everything, but, surprisingly, he’d overlooked how ruthless Scarlett could be.
Jasmine Ruiz lay there, her eyes closed and unwilling to open. The disdain and loathing of the other members of the Ruiz Family were clear. Bryan suspected the worst had come to pass.
"You worthless man, only showing up now! You have the nerve to show up, do you?" When Bonnie Jenkins saw Bryan, she rushed at him, her hands beating him relentlessly.
She was full of resentment. It was this man’s fault that her daughter was in this state. Her grandchild, who was due in two months, was gone.
Overnight, the joy that was once imminent had vanished.
"Mom, Mom --" Bryan immediately fell to his knees, letting Bonnie hit and scold him. Resistance was pointless.
"Don’t call me Mom! I’m not your mother. Jasmine said she wants a divorce. Now that the child is gone, just leave. Whether you flourish or fall, it’s none of our concern." Only at this moment did Bonnie fully understand that when choosing a husband, character mattered more than wealth. A man’s character was integral to a woman’s happiness or misery in life.
"...The child is really gone?" Bryan’s eyes flickered wide. If before it was just speculation, Bonnie’s words confirmed his dread.
This loss weighed tremendously on Bryan, not just because the child was a precious gem in his grandfather’s eyes, but because he had genuinely looked forward to the child. The bitter resentment within him intensified.
"Do you think we would lie to you about this? While you were frolicking with another woman, did you expect Jasmine to bear your children? Bryan, perhaps you’re too naive. Get out. Jasmine won’t bear the sight of you. Just wait for the divorce." Bonnie spoke before pushing Bryan out of the door.
"No, Mom, please let me explain, Jasmine, Jasmine..." Bryan knew he was at fault, but he didn’t want to give up on this marriage yet. He genuinely cherished Jasmine Ruiz.
Jasmine opened her eyes and stared blankly at the ceiling. She could hear Bryan’s voice. She used to find his voice appealing and charming, but now, she couldn’t bear to hear it. Every time their last scene together floated into her mind, she felt completely disgusted.
Emily Hill had prepared a bowl of plain congee early in the morning. Jasmine, who had been thinking for a night, smiled at Emily and said, "Thank you, Aunt."
"Did you gain any appetite?" Emily Hill walked over and asked gently.
"Yes, seeing Aunt’s delicious congee, I now feel like eating." Jasmine replied. Having lost all her sharp edges, she no longer held any pretensions.
She wondered what is there to be proud about? Everyone must know of Bryan’s infidelity during her pregnancy now. She remembered what Carolline had said yesterday, ’Luckily, the child has not yet been born. If it had been born before discovering Bryan’s deplorable actions, her life would truly be over.’
So why make it harder on herself? Since she had already lost the baby, she should get herself together and start anew.
"That’s good, eat as much as you can." Emily was satisfied and finished by saying that she had to go to work. Thankfully, Carolline Ruiz and Henry Ruiz would be at work and there wouldn’t be a shortage of people to help.
"Thank you, sister-in-law." Bonnie walked over and sincerely thanked Emily.
"We’re all one family, no need for thanks. You’ve been through a lot these few days. Be sure to take good care of Jasmine. Tomorrow she should begin replenishing her nutrients. Also, the postpartum period is important. Not doing it properly could impact Jasmine’s health later on." Emily advised.
"I understand." Bonnie nodded.
Carolline, having changed her clothes, walked in to see Jasmine eating. Carolline was relieved. Eating signified that Jasmine had come to terms with the situation.
It was no surprise that Jasmine was handling it like a true Ruiz Family member. It only took her one night to come to terms with her situation.
After Jasmine finished her breakfast, Carolline personally prepared the anti-inflammatory IV for her, "This is the anti-inflammatory drip. The next one is for uterine contractions. It will be painful, so you may need to grit your teeth."
"There’s no pain I can’t bear, don’t worry." Jasmine wiped her mouth and replied faintly.
"..." Carolline knew exactly what she meant. If she could endure the pain of losing a child, what other pain could she not withstand?
"Have you eaten?" Bonnie asked Carolline.
"Yes, I have. Aunt, you and Jasmine should eat." She had joined Bryan in eating steamed buns and congee. She had eaten quite a bit knowing that Emily was making congee at home.
"Bryan was here earlier. I chased him away" Bonnie informed Carolline about Bryan’s earlier visit.
"That’s it? You just chased him away?" Carolline expressed her confusion. This man had caused Jasmine to be in this state and taken away their child. And he just left?
"I don’t want to see him. I’ve decided to divorce him. I don’t want anything." Jasmine suddenly spoke out.
The fact was Bryan couldn’t give her anything now. She understood that once someone loses hope, they wouldn’t want to be tangled up anymore.
