What was supposed to be a beautiful day was ruined by Phoebe Edwards. Bryan Hawkins was irritated, but he was rational and knew that the biggest mistake had been his own for devising such a scheme in the first place.

He’d thought there would be time to explain everything to Carolline Ruiz afterwards, but running into Phoebe Edwards had thrown all his plans into disarray.

Bryan Hawkins drove straight home, carried Axel out of the backseat, and picked up several bags. Carolline took the remaining bags and followed him.

"Alright." Bryan Hawkins sat down on another sofa, a table away from her. He believed in being honest for leniency and resisting for rigor. Besides, he never intended to keep it a secret from her. Now that she knew, he had to be even more careful not to lie. "I admit that I sent Gary Skate to your hospital, specifically targeting you, to get you to resign and go home. Bryan Hawkins forced a nod.

"I’m very angry," declared Carolline. "I thought I had made myself clear to you, but it seems that it’s not a problem of communication between us, but rather that we are both stubborn. I won’t resign. Even if you found everyone possible to come after me, I still wouldn’t give in. Do you understand me?"

"... I understand." Bryan Hawkins nodded like a defeated man.

"I don’t know how long I’ll be angry, but there’s no way I can forgive you today. So, it’s best if you don’t talk to me." Carolline stood up and walked out.

Bryan Hawkins wanted to pull her back, but he knew Carolline’s temper well. When she was angry, she needed time to calm down, and it wouldn’t work to confront her head-on.
