Chapter 669: Chapter 669: Affection No More (8)

Upon hearing Cole Duncan’s words, Jane Auclair’s expression eased a bit, and her face showed a hint of softening.

"...But, Cole, how can I trust your words?" Thirty million, although there was still some distance from the initial fifty million, she knew that this was the most Cole Duncan could give.

"Has my character reached this level of depravity? I can give you an IOU if you want, what do you think?" Cole Duncan had thought it through. What was he using so much money for? Money is the root of all evil. He has had a lot of money in his life, but his life has been so unhappy.

"Alright, Cole Duncan, then I’ll trust you this one more time," Jane Auclair knew that Cole would not make promises lightly for things he wouldn’t do, and since he said he would give the money, he certainly would keep his word.

This was also the reason why she had chosen him in the first place.

"Okay," Cole nodded.

Jane Auclair then gave an address and told Cole Duncan to go there with his men, reminding him, "The woman taking care of the child is my former nanny; she doesn’t know anything. You can just take the child away and not arrest her."

"Don’t worry, the innocent won’t be implicated," Cole Duncan assured her.

He then went out to where Officer He and his team were waiting. Upon hearing Cole’s words, they rushed to the destination to rescue the little girl first.

At this time, Elena Duncan had been unconscious for two days due to excessive sleeping pills. The nanny, who was taking care of Elena, was worried but couldn’t get in touch with Jane Auclair, so she had decided to take Elena to the hospital to get her checked.

As soon as they opened the door, Officer He and his team showed up and took the child directly from the nanny’s hands. The nanny, who had never seen such a scene before, was scared and pleaded while kowtowing, "It has nothing to do with me. I was just taking the child to the hospital."

After listening to the nanny, Officer He looked at the child’s condition and decided to send her to a nearby hospital immediately while notifying the child’s mother.

Daisy Willow and her group rushed to the hospital in a grand manner, but since there were so many people, the nurse suggested that not all of them should stay. Therefore, Daisy’s father and mother went home while Daisy’s mother prepared some good food for the distressed Elena.

Samuel Willow also went home with his parents to get some clothes for Elena to change into.

Now that they found the child, Officer He and his team handed her over to the guardian and went back to deal with the case’s aftermath.

Bryan Hawkins ordered Benjamin Ford to hand over the three suspects to confront Debbie Duncan. Along with Jane Auclair’s testimony, Debbie was doomed this time. Even though the child’s life was not in danger, her actions had already violated criminal laws.

All Debbie needed to do now was wait for the verdict. As for Jane Auclair, since she voluntarily confessed and contributed to the case, her punishment might be reduced, but she wouldn’t be released without charges. She also needed to wait for the verdict.

Upon learning that Elena Duncan had been successfully rescued, Debbie Duncan regretted her actions. She was then taken to the Detention Center to await her trial and sentencing.

Katie pushed Cole Duncan’s wheelchair to the door of Elena’s ward. Just as Katie wanted to knock on the door, Cole stopped her, "Forget it, let’s go back."

"Young Master, you are worried about Elena as well. Please go and see her. This matter has nothing to do with you, and I believe Miss Daisy is a reasonable person," Katie persuaded, knowing that Cole had not slept well these days due to his concern for Elena.

"I know she’s reasonable, it’s just that I can’t get over this mental hurdle. Let’s go, let’s go back," he thought of himself as Elena’s father, but Elena’s circumstances were caused by her own grandmother. Although he was unaware and innocent in all of this, he still could not forgive himself.

Katie sighed and quietly pushed Cole Duncan away.

In the future, the young master would truly be alone.

In the ward, Elena was still unconscious, hooked up to an IV. Daisy now knew that Elena had been given an excessive amount of sleeping pills, and if it had been just a little more, Elena could have been in danger.

Thinking of this, Daisy was still somewhat frightened. Luckily, everything was still in time.

Elena was finally back in her arms safe and sound. She would never let go of the child’s hand again. Even if something like a kidnapping or robbery happened again, she could accept it without concern.

"Elena, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, Mommy. I promise, Mommy will never let go of your hand again," Daisy promised.

It seemed that Elena had heard her mother’s gentle voice as she slowly opened her eyes. Daisy’s familiar face appeared before her. She softly called out, "Mommy..."

"Elena, Elena, are you awake? You finally woke up," Daisy was overwhelmed with emotions and shed more tears. She had cried countless times over these days.

"Mommy, don’t cry," Elena said with sympathy. During these two days, she had been restless and noisy, but the unfamiliar auntie had not mistreated her. If it weren’t for extreme hunger, she would not have eaten the food made by the auntie.

It was not abandonment as Jane Auclair had thought. Daisy had always taught her not to eat strangers’ food. Therefore, she tried her best to follow her mother’s instructions.

"Elena, I’m sorry, it’s all Mommy’s fault for making you suffer like this," Daisy carefully held her in her arms.

"No, Mommy, Auntie did not abuse me. I’m not hurt, please don’t be sad anymore," Elena said sensibly.

Daisy nodded, and just then, Daisy’s mother brought in some delicious food.

Looking at the delicious dishes, Elena couldn’t help but swallow her saliva. She had been eating only bread and milk these few days and was really hungry.
