Chapter 629: Chapter 629: Gary Skate’s Identity (1)
Gary Skate hailed a car, and before getting in, he turned back and asked Carolline, "Carolline, are you sure you don’t want to share the ride?"
"No need, thank you, Dean Skate." Carolline replied coldly.
"Alright, see you tomorrow then." Gary Skate smiled and got into the car, glancing at another car not far behind. He told the driver the address and then closed his eyes to rest.
It wasn’t long before Bryan Hawkins’ car arrived. Carolline got in without waiting for him to speak, a puffed-up, dissatisfied look on her face, as if she had been made fun of.
After all, she had promised Axel that she would have dinner with him, but ended up at this boring dinner instead. If Gary Skate had talked about something important, it would have been fine, but all he did was talk nonsense.
She had been played by him, and what’s worse, he wasn’t just an ordinary dean who only knew how to suck up to superiors, but also knew how to unite his subordinates.
"What’s wrong, not happy?" Bryan Hawkins asked cautiously, rarely seeing Carolline so unhappy. He pretended to care on the surface, but inside, he was looking forward to her response.
"Did you bring Axel back?" Not wanting to mention the annoying person, Carolline asked directly about Axel.
"Yeah, Aunt Lu and Richard Ward came back with him too." In fact, Bryan didn’t want to bring Axel back, but the kid wanted to see his mom. After dinner, he insisted on going home with Bryan.
He guessed that Axel was still waiting for Carolline and didn’t want to go to bed yet.
"That’s good." Carolline nodded. As long as Axel was back, she could bring him to work with her the next day and let him stay with Kylie Stratton. At lunch, mother and son could eat together.
"Don’t you like the new dean?" Bryan Hawkins circled back to the topic he wanted to know about.
"Hmm, not only do I not like him, I find him extremely annoying. He says we doctors and nurses should disregard everyone around us and treat patients as our only priority. We’re not gods, and we didn’t just pop out of the cracks in a rock. Besides, there was nothing important today, but he forced us to have dinner together, and all he talked about was a bunch of pointless stuff. It’s infuriating!"
Keeping her away from her child, how could she not be furious? Yet, he was still the leader, and everyone treated him like a god – it was absurd.
"Honey, your husband is here. If you’re not happy with your job, then quit." Bryan Hawkins brought up the issue again, really not wanting Carolline to be a nurse anymore.
Even if she didn’t want to work at Hawkins Family and be his assistant or learn from Avery Graham, owning her own shop would be better than being a nurse.
"Here we go again." Carolline pouted, not very willing. Although she was unhappy, one couldn’t just quit their job because of that.
She was lucky to have found such a wealthy husband and could quit her job without worrying about not having enough to eat. But what if she hadn’t been so lucky?
What if she had found an ordinary man who couldn’t support the whole family on his salary alone? Then she would have to work and make money to help out, and would she still have the luxury to be willful?
Unless it came to a time when she felt she could leave, she would, but not just because she was unhappy.
"..." Bryan Hawkins was suddenly at a loss. He was running out of ideas to make Carolline leave her job.
When the two arrived home, Axel had already taken a bath. As expected, he didn’t want to sleep yet. He wasn’t watching TV but instead was waiting for Carolline in the living room, playing chess with Richard Ward.
