Their family was unlike others, in those patriarchal families, if a daughter-in-law made such demands, the son would definitely ignore the daughter’s needs. But for them, they couldn’t sell their house because if they did, Charlotte wouldn’t have a place to live.

Then those women left one by one until Edward met Briella Edwards. Edward loved Briella, but he also loved his sister a lot.

In Edward’s eyes, Briella held an equal position with his family members.

"Don’t worry, I’ll handle it myself." Edward was also a bit upset and returned to his room. Seeing the mess inside, he quietly went to the Kitchen and brought a broom to clean up.

Edward’s mother and father both came in to help.

After cleaning up the room, an idea suddenly struck Edward. He now understood who had framed him. Hadn’t he used the same method before to try and deceive another man’s wife?

The more Edward thought about it, the more he believed that this was very likely. So, he made another phone call and got a quick response. Benjamin Ford, who never liked to hide his actions, told the men in between that they just needed to ask around and they would hear the story.

"Brother Chen, the person who framed you is the notorious Benjamin Ford from the underworld. We are just small hooligans, we can’t deal with such people." Edward’s friend said.

"What? Benjamin Ford?" Edward had naturally heard of Ford’s name, but he couldn’t figure out when he had ever offended him. They had never interacted after all.

He had thought it was Bryan Hawkins, as he had used similar despicable tactics against him and his wife. So, if he had used the same tactics against them, it would have made sense. But Benjamin Ford?

They had no grievances, and someone like Ford, a big shot, would hardly target someone as small as him. Was it worth it?

Edward couldn’t make sense of it, but what could he do? Ford’s actions were always beyond reproach, with no one able to grasp his weaknesses.

"Brother Chen, Benjamin Ford is not someone we can mess with. I think we should just admit defeat this time. Ford even said, if he ever knows someone is hanging around with you, we can’t even drink meat dregs, let alone meat soup. Brother Chen, we also need to support our families, we’re sorry."

After saying this, the other party hung up. Edward looked confused.

Without evidence and now without a single witness, how could he explain this to Briella?

He held his head in his hands and, with a forceful push, laid down on the bed, feeling completely exhausted.

When Briella returned to her parents’ house, she began to cry to them, saying Edward was heartless. Her parents felt heartbroken for their daughter, and her brother even wanted to go to the Clark Residence to seek justice but was stopped by Briella.

"Sister, are you still protecting that man?" Briella’s brother yelled at her, frustrated.

"I’m not protecting him, I’ve already made up my mind to divorce him. As long as he agrees not to fight me for Ruth and pays her alimony in one lump sum, I won’t bother with the rest." She was exhausted from the years of marriage, and it was Edward’s love that had kept her going. But now, she was completely fed up with her life in that house.
