Chapter 587: Chapter 587: Shen’s Mother Kneels Down (8)

Mrs. Duncan grabbed Daisy Willow as she tried to leave. There was no way she would let Daisy go without finishing the conversation.

"What about us? Our relationship as in-laws is over, as is our marriage. Why are you coming to see me?" Daisy was not polite at all. If Mrs. Duncan had respected her, Daisy would have respected her back. But since she didn’t care about proper conduct, why should Daisy respect her? Just like Carolline Ruiz said, such a person didn’t deserve any respect, even if she were an elder.

She had no bearing of an elder at all.

"You..." Mrs. Duncan, caught off guard by Daisy’s sharp tongue, was left speechless.

"Daisy Willow, for the sake of how much Cole thinks of you and his daughter, can’t you go back and see him? Can’t you help him? After all, you two were once husband and wife." Mrs. Duncan would not let go. As Daisy continued to resist, Mrs. Duncan suddenly played the family card.

"Mrs. Duncan, you keep changing your tune. I don’t know which part to believe." Daisy remained cold. If Mrs. Duncan had been calm earlier, Daisy might have actually relented and agreed to her requests out of compassion. It had to be said that Simon Carrington’s earlier call came just in time.

In fact, the call actually concerned details about managing finances. Daisy thought it was pretty simple. After all, Simon had introduced the financial advisor. It was normal for him to show concern. But she couldn’t understand how Mrs. Duncan could misinterpret such a normal conversation and lose her temper so quickly.

"Hmph, Daisy Willow, I made a mistake coming here, didn’t I? I thought you were different. Fine, let’s just say my son was blind in this lifetime." Mrs. Duncan let go of her hand, threw down some cash, and left first.

Daisy closed her eyes. She didn’t want to explain any further. Her phone was already shattered beyond repair. She took out her SIM card, went to a nearby mobile phone store, and bought a cheap phone.

When Daisy returned home, her mother was just about to head out. "Mom, where are you going?"

"To find you! Just now, Megan Clark brought us some pancakes she had made. Didn’t you say you were going to see her?" Her mother stared at her daughter. She didn’t expect Daisy to lie, and she was somewhat angry.

"I’m sorry, Mom." Daisy apologized, "It was Cole Duncan’s mother. She came looking for me."

"Her? What does she want with you? That woman said she would never set foot in our rundown place. What is she up to?" Daisy’s mother was furious. Daisy was already divorced, and yet she was still entangled with the Duncan family.

"She came to talk about the Duncan family’s affairs, but I didn’t pay her any attention. Don’t worry, Mom. Has Elena Duncan not woken up yet?" Daisy didn’t want to dwell on the topic of the Duncan family any longer.

At first, when Mrs. Duncan suddenly knelt before her, she was startled. She was touched by seeing a mother go to such lengths for her son.

For a moment, she was on the verge of being moved. She even thought of calling the financial advisor. But now, she had changed her mind.

"Yes, she’ll wake up and start looking for you." Daisy’s mother finally felt somewhat satisfied.

"Then I’ll go get her." Daisy went to Elena’s room. The little girl had just woken up, her face red, crying for her mother.

Daisy ran over, picked her up, and felt that Elena’s soft little body was frighteningly hot. Daisy quickly touched Elena’s forehead and asked, "Elena, do you have a fever?"

"What? How can she have a fever out of the blue?" Daisy’s mother ran over when she heard Daisy’s voice and sure enough, Elena’s face was flushed and alarming. She touched Elena’s forehead and was shocked, "It’s really hot. Felicia, we have to take her to the hospital."

"Okay, Mom, call Big Brother and ask him to pick us up. I’ll pack some things for Elena." Daisy nodded before placing Elena back on the bed. That’s when she saw the cause of the fever—an ice cube near the pillow that hadn’t completely melted yet.

Daisy’s mother found out and shouted, "Kent Auclair! Come out here!"

"Mom, never mind, let’s go to the hospital first." Daisy knew that even if Kent were to blame for the ice cube, it was just a child’s prank. Maybe he meant well, fearing Elena would become overheated during sleep and added an ice cube to cool her down. However, his actions resulted in Elena getting a fever.

Daisy’s mother also knew this and called Samuel Willow directly.

About half an hour later, Elena Duncan was taken to the hospital with a fever of 38 degrees Celsius. After being given a fever-reducing injection and having more medicine prescribed, they were asked to take the child home.

They were reminded that if Elena’s fever returned during the night, they could just give her the fever medicine.

Kent was aware that he had made a mistake. When the adults returned, Kent cried long before his grandmother spoke a word.

Kent was just about Elena’s age, and he was also just a child. He was scared when he learned that Elena was ill after being inadvertently hurt by his actions. Fortunately, they had returned quickly.

Daisy put Elena back to bed while her mother questioned Kent. His explanation confirmed Daisy’s earlier theory: Kent had seen Elena sleeping and sweating profusely, so he thought of this method to cool her down. He never expected it would backfire. Daisy forgave him.

Daisy’s mother couldn’t berate him too harshly either. Although his actions were wrong, they came from a good place.

Samuel Willow went downstairs to pick up his wife and return home. As a result, only Daisy and her mother were left in the house. Their attention was on Kent and Elena, so neither of them noticed that someone had pulled open their front door from outside.

Mrs. Duncan barged in. She had left in a huff earlier but thought to herself that since Daisy did not care about their kinship, so be it. Elena, however, was still Cole’s daughter. It should be expected that the child should accompany her father when he was not feeling well.

Who would have thought she’d find out about Elena’s fever?

"Daisy Willow, is this how you take care of Elena?" Mrs. Duncan pushed open the door and angrily questioned.
