Chapter 536: Chapter 536: Despicable Person Deserves it (6)

After preparing a lavish dinner, Briella Edwards called out to her in-laws, "Dinner is ready, Mom and Dad."

Mr. and Mrs. Clark glanced at Briella simultaneously. Given the current gloomy atmosphere in the house, they were quite dissatisfied with Briella’s nonchalant attitude.

Although Briella had given birth to their precious grandson and continued the Clark family lineage, they still hoped that she would have another child now that the country’s two-child policy was in place. They had treated her quite well recently, but that didn’t mean they would indulge an outsider like her in mistreating their own daughter.

"Can’t you show a little concern for your sister at a time like this?" Mrs. Clark said in frustration, clearly valuing her own daughter more than her daughter-in-law.

"..." Briella glanced at her husband, Edward Clark, who remained silent with a stern look on his face, showing no intention of defending her. With no choice, she took it upon herself to explain, "Mom and Dad, I’ve talked to my classmates, and this situation isn’t really a bad thing..."

Before Briella could finish speaking, Mr. Clark slammed his hand on the table with a heavy thud. Briella shuddered in fear, feeling incredibly wronged. Her eyes welled up with tears, as she was on the verge of crying.

"How can you say it’s not a bad thing? Are you deliberately picking on Charlotte?" Mr. Clark glared at Briella, furious. Their daughter had been so upset she went straight to her room to be alone. And now, her sister-in-law dared to assert that it was not a bad thing for Charlotte to leave. Did she really want Charlotte to leave and never return? Mr. Clark was well aware that the relationship between his two daughters-in-law was far from harmonious.

"Am I picking on Charlotte? I asked around, and it’s only for a year. Once she comes back, she’ll be an official and won’t have to work the frontlines anymore. She’ll receive a salary increase, and her work won’t be as exhausting. She won’t have to take night shifts. In life, doesn’t everyone have to endure something to enjoy better times? Can’t we just get through this?" Briella wiped her tears, feeling hurt by her father-in-law’s words. She had never talked back to him, but today’s grievance was too much.

Charlotte Clark had been spoiled by her family, and despite being married into the family for years, she never respected Briella as an elder sister-in-law.

Moreover, Briella knew that the idea of having her husband give half his earnings to Mrs. Clark came from Charlotte, and she resented her for it.

She was on her own fighting against the entire Clark family, but she didn’t want to fight. At least she received a salary from their small business, and her husband provided for the family’s expenses. As for the other half of the money, her husband willingly handed it over to his mother.

Briella had shown respect to the Clark family, but today their words were too bitter for her to bear.

She hadn’t said anything too outrageous, but if she had let her anger explode, she would have told them that Charlotte deserved her fate.

Charlotte had a nasty way with words and a penchant for sharing Briella’s family’s issues with the entire residential area. No wonder she remained unmarried at thirty. They all thought that Charlotte had it coming.

Briella even thought the coming year would be much more relaxed without Charlotte around.

"You don’t know what it’s like over there. Haven’t you seen the international news? So many people who went there ended up dead," Edward intervened, stepping in to stop his emotional wife from arguing with his parents any further. He had noticed his mother’s darkened expression, but he wasn’t angry, knowing that his wife’s outburst stemmed from concern for Charlotte.
