Chapter 497: Chapter 497: The Truth About Staying Unmarried (8)

Charlotte was feeling talkative for a moment, but was she really not afraid of Carolline Ruiz retaliating?

"I didn’t make up the rumor. That’s what they said online, and you just saw it. I just brought it out here." Charlotte pouted in defense.

Actually, that was what they said online. Even if she was the one who spread the hospital gossip, she only did it based on the online rumors. If Carolline Ruiz really wanted to pursue it, she couldn’t trace it back to her.

Megan Clifton, the director of the Administration Office, happened to walk out of the door. She was genuine in her position of authority, and everyone greeted her respectfully upon seeing her.

In their eyes, Megan was a powerful woman. There were few people who dared to openly challenge George Edwards at a staff meeting, and Megan was one of them.

"Director Megan—" A group of people saw her and respectfully greeted her.

Megan responded, then looked at Charlotte, "Our job is not to be speakers, so we don’t need to spend time gossiping about others. In your spare time, it’s better to study at home, take professional title examinations, and get a raise."

Megan’s tone was a bit cold. Everyone knew of her relationship with Carolline, and by openly spreading rumors about her, it wasn’t just Carolline that Charlotte had offended.

Andy Aguirre also finished work and came out. Seeing Megan, he hurried over to her, sensing her unhappiness, "What’s wrong?"

Men are not usually sensitive to gossip, so Andy still didn’t know about the hospital’s rumors about Carolline and the netizens’ enthusiasm for the topic of whether Bryan Hawkins and Phoebe Miller would rekindle their old feelings.

"Nothing, let’s go home and have dinner. Just seeing some people makes me feel suffocated." Megan shifted her gaze away from Charlotte.

Andy glanced at the nurses in front of him, their expressions a little awkward. He didn’t explain for Megan and simply walked her toward the Family Building.

When Megan and Andy left, the group of nurses that had gathered around Charlotte dispersed, leaving only the one who had spoken earlier, "I think our days ahead might not be so easy."

"Hmph, I don’t believe that. You just wait. I’ll find even more explosive news about her. I mean, Felicia Miller is here personally, probably to stand up for her sister." Charlotte didn’t feel like she did anything wrong; on the contrary, it was Carolline who she had always disliked.

It was just that Carolline had a better upbringing, with a genius father like Henry Ruiz and growing up with people like Andy. She had simply been born with better luck, and the opportunity to rise through the ranks had fallen on her head. If it were her, she would be willing too.

"You still want to find more? Where are you going to find it?" asked Charlotte’s friend, who also didn’t like Carolline and Megan.

But they had neither power nor connections nor a good social circle, so they could only live ordinary lives reluctantly. Later, when Carolline had a child out of wedlock, they had once thought that she would never be able to raise her head again. However, these past few years, Carolline’s life hadn’t been so difficult. And then, five years later, Axel’s father turned out to be Bryan Hawkins.

Isn’t life too unfair? It was as if the pies falling from the heavens were all hitting Carolline."

"Just wait, I’ll definitely find a way." Charlotte said with a smile.

Earlier, because of Megan’s comments, everyone had distanced themselves from them. They didn’t bother to interact, and the two women walked away shoulder to shoulder like nothing had happened.

When Carolline returned home, Bryan Hawkins was already there. She had received a text message from him when she finished work, saying that Emily Hill asked them to come home for dinner, so he wouldn’t be waiting for her at the door.

Carolline went straight home from work. Dinner was being prepared by her father, Henry Ruiz, in the kitchen, while Emily Hill and Bryan Hawkins sat by the tea table, planning who to send invitations to.

Carolline walked over and saw names densely written on the A4 paper, leaving her dumbfounded, "Is this for the invitations? But isn’t there still more than five months? Isn’t it too early to send them out now?"

"It’s not too early. Sending them out early allows them to prepare well in advance." Bryan Hawkins pulled her to sit by his side, then carefully looked at her for a while. Seeing that she didn’t seem to have any issues, he finally felt relieved.

"Prepare what? How many money envelopes are you expecting them to give?" Carolline shook her head speechlessly.

"It’s not about how much money they give, the relatives can choose not to give any. The main point is to send the invitations early so that they can arrange their schedules well in advance." Bryan’s answer sounded grand and impressive, and he felt that there were no loopholes in his reasoning. His ideas were all for the convenience of others.

"That could be arranged a month in advance. With five months in advance, what do you expect people to think?" Carolline still couldn’t understand; she had attended many banquets but had never seen anyone distributing invitations five months ahead of time.

"It doesn’t matter, it’s just a bit ahead of time, so it’s just as good." Bryan insisted. "Besides, we’re just making the list now. By the time the invitations go out, it would probably take another half a month, so it won’t be five months ahead, right?"

"..." This sophistry really left her unable to refute.

Emily Hill continued listing names without interrupting the couple’s conversation. When Bryan first arrived home, she had questioned him about the online incident, but Bryan had sworn that he and Phoebe Miller were already a thing of the past. The reason for holding the press conference back then was due to some compelling circumstances.

Years ago, when he and Carolline had divorced due to misunderstandings, the Lopez Family was pressuring him, so he had no choice but to pull such a move. As a result, it still caused them problems.

Emily naturally believed what Bryan said, as he said it so sincerely.

And by sending the invitations this early, Bryan wanted to refute the online rumors.

"Carolline, there’s one more thing I’d like to discuss with you. Do you think we should hold a press conference for our wedding?" This was what Bryan was thinking. He could remove the online news, but he also wanted to get rid of the netizens’ thoughts in their hearts as well.

He and Carolline were doing well and wouldn’t change because of anyone else.

"..." Carolline stared at him in horror. If she didn’t know his intention for sending the invitations so early before, now she could fully understand, "A press conference isn’t necessary. But, you come with me to the room for a moment, I have something I want to discuss with you privately."

Bryan looked at her and said to Emily, "Mom, could you please continue working on this for a while? Thank you for your hard work."

"It’s okay, go ahead." Emily shook her head. What was there to be hardworking about? Whether it was done early or late, Emily couldn’t help when it came to figuring out who the female side would invite.

Bryan stood up and followed Carolline into the room. As soon as the door closed, he unconsciously embraced her and gave her a lingering and passionate kiss.
