Chapter 488: Chapter 488: Enemies Encounter on the Narrow Road (7)

"What did you say?" Cole’s mother couldn’t believe that Daisy Willow dared to talk back to her. Unable to hold back, she raised her arm to slap Daisy Willow, assuming this was still the Duncan family home where she was still the high and mighty mother-in-law, and Daisy Willow just a despised daughter-in-law.

Simon Carrington swiftly stepped forward and intercepted Cole’s mother’s hand in mid-air. He appeared to be a refined and slender man, but had a man’s strength in his grip. He held her hand tightly but without using force, causing discomfort for Cole’s mother.

What really troubled her was the embarrassment. Her face had been lost, first to Daisy Willow and now to a man who held her arm as if she was a mere chicken. Her face was completely shamed.

"Daisy Willow, are you still not willing to admit it?! This is the man you found behind our family’s back while Cole is bedridden! And now you even brought this man to bully your mother-in-law?! How do you not fear heaven’s wrath? Ahh--" All of a sudden, Cole’s wife was wailing as if she was a village wife, sitting on the ground in a tantrum.

In an instant, onlookers focused their gaze on Daisy Willow and Simon Carrington, seemingly believing the one-sided words of Cole’s wife. The husband was in bed due to an accident, and his wife couldn’t help but go out to find a man.

Such women and men would be despised by everyone. Even if the story of dipping in a pig cage didn’t exist, the glares from the crowd were almost enough to kill Daisy Willow.

She had never felt so humiliated at any other time. The truth was twisted by Cole’s wife, and she felt anger but didn’t know how to express it.

Everything was brought on by Cole’s wife. When she encouraged her son to find a woman to bear a grandson for the Duncan family, she didn’t think there was anything wrong with their actions. Daisy Willow didn’t do anything wrong, but Cole’s mother still splashed her with dirty water. Now she found it hard to defend herself against the accusations.

"Mrs. Duncan, I’ll sue you for defamation, just wait for my subpoena." Simon Carrington was a lawyer, so he wouldn’t yell and curse at her like she did. Instead, he would use the law to protect his interests.

However, the ignorant Mrs. Duncan didn’t seem to understand the severity of the situation and continued to play a victim, shedding tears and talking about the hardships of her and her son.

Jane Auclair was dumbfounded by Mrs. Duncan’s act, realizing she would have to learn Mrs. Duncan’s tricks and be on guard lest she unwittingly fall into her traps.

Although she accompanied Mrs. Duncan to relax, she wasn’t so naive to defend the Duncan family at this moment. She still had no status, and when Cole returned, he completely ignored her, never mentioning marrying her after divorcing Daisy Willow. Cole’s indifference to her made Jane realize that the Duncan family was ruthless.

In any case, she still wanted to marry into the Duncan family, and when the time came, they would rely on their abilities.

"Let’s go." Simon Carrington took Daisy Willow’s arm and led her away from the scene.

Jane Auclair didn’t try to stop them. It was only after they left that she squatted down by Mrs. Duncan’s side and said, "Auntie, they’re gone. You can get up now."

She genuinely felt that Mrs. Duncan’s trick was immature and incredibly embarrassing.

"Hmph, trying to compete with me?" Mrs. Duncan stood up, tears still streaking her face, whispering under her breath.

Jane Auclair shook her head, feeling that Simon Carrington didn’t look like a man to be trifled with. Yet Mrs. Duncan showed no such self-awareness. However, since Jane was currently on the outside, not yet a part of the Duncan family, she was happy to watch the two sides fight it out.
