Chapter 477: Chapter 477: Being a Good Bestie (4)
"So you really won’t even consider Bernard Taylor?" Carolline Ruiz had heard about some of the things between her and Bernard Taylor, and in addition, what Bryan Hawkins had told her. She thought that even if there were stories about Bernard, he was still much more reliable than this guy with the surname Wu.
Kent Auclair was just like Cole Duncan, Carolline admitted she might be biased because of Daisy Willow’s situation, but she’d become very averse to these goody-two-shoes guys whenever she saw them.
Carolline just didn’t want Avery Graham to follow the same path as Daisy Willow. Marrying this kind of man would only make Avery suffer, and living with someone like him would mean Avery would never be happy, Carolline thought.
"What does this have to do with him? Like I said, that kind of person is not my type." Avery Graham stared discontentedly at Carolline Ruiz, not understanding why she was connecting everything to Bernard Taylor lately.
"I don’t get it, what happened to you in the past that made you so against good-looking guys?" Carolline stared back at Avery, and ever since she met Avery, she considered herself to know Avery quite well. But it was clear that she didn’t know her well enough.
"In any case, guys who look as good as him are definitely unreliable," said Avery firmly. Besides, she might not have money or power, but she wouldn’t put up with anyone’s attitudes just for the sake of someone else. Since his mother already disliked her so much, why should she kiss up to them? She wasn’t that bored.
Avery had always been this way – if someone treated her kindly, she would return the favor tenfold. If someone didn’t like her, she would dislike them even more, just like with Nancy Sallow. Avery didn’t even want to bother looking at Nancy more than necessary.
She didn’t feel anything good about Bernard Taylor in the first place, let alone the fact that he was Nancy Sallow’s son. She had plenty of reasons to stay away from him.
But why did Carolline and the others think that Bernard’s kindness to her was because he liked her?
Even if Bernard had asked her such a question that day, she didn’t think it was because he liked her. It was probably because, in his world, she was the only woman who didn’t act infatuated with him.
During college, she had chosen to study psychology and had some understanding of the human mind. Men like Bernard probably thought at first that she was faking her indifference, but when they later found out that she genuinely didn’t feel the same adoration for him as other women, they became curious about her.
He probably wanted to chase her down, play with her heart, and then dump her heartlessly, all just to satisfy his desire to be pursued by everyone. She would never indulge in that twisted fantasy for someone like Bernard and his neurotic desires.
Carolline wanted to say more, but Bryan Hawkins’ five-minute limit was up. Avery was also annoyed that they really did only give her five minutes.
Bryan Hawkins didn’t care, and he left with Carolline Ruiz.
Avery didn’t immediately go in to find Kent Auclair. She couldn’t say that she liked him, but she could put up with it. Not everyone could be like Howard Lawson, unwilling to settle. In this world, there were still many people who compromised in their relationships.
Her parents’ marriage was also a compromise, and several of her cousins had similar marriages. They lived plain lives without many twists but seemed pretty good, at least on the surface.
As her mother said, she was really getting older, and with such a big age, she hadn’t met anyone who truly moved her. Now with Kent Auclair, with all the conditions being passable and her parents being happy about it, she didn’t have any other pursuits in mind.
