Chapter 431: Chapter 431: Daisy Willow’s Rise (8)

He was willing to bear the punishment for his infidelity to Daisy Willow.

"I’ve never hit her." Mrs. Duncan retorted. She had indeed never laid a hand on Elena, and had even provided her food and clothing generously. What else was she expected to do?

"Violence comes in many forms: physical, verbal, psychological, subtle or overt," Cole Duncan explained. He had never thought low of his mother’s lack of education before, but now he felt that the cultural gap between them made communication very difficult.

"But Jane said that she would bear children for you in the future. If we let Elena stay here, Jane might not be happy," Mrs. Duncan argued, her concerns solely revolving around Jane’s feelings. She was convinced that Cole’s divorce from Daisy Willow meant that he intended to marry Jane.

Despite the loss of half of her leg and a miscarriage, Jane’s fertility was still intact. She promised Mrs. Duncan every day to bear her a strong, healthy grandson someday, bringing Mrs. Duncan immense joy. Of course, she had to do everything to please Jane.

"Mom, if she does indeed bear children in the future, those children will not carry the Duncan lineage. Except for Elena, you will not have any other grandchild in this life. Elena is your only granddaughter. It is your choice whether we accept her or not."

Cole was genuinely tired. He decided not to argue with his mother anymore and closed his eyes, intending to rest.

"What does that mean?" After a moment, Mrs. Duncan finally asked, staring at Cole in disbelief, her face pale.

She understood what he had said, but simply couldn’t believe it.

Cole’s words meant that he could no longer have children, right?

Had the accident not only taken his legs but also his ability to father children?

When Cole remained silent, Mrs. Duncan turned and left the room. Once she had left, Cole opened his eyes again. He understood what his mother was about to do, and he had no intention of stopping her.

This was a risk he was willing to take. He wanted to bet that Daisy Willow wouldn’t be able to part with Elena. He hoped that she would choose to stay with him and maintain their marriage.

Even if this made Daisy despise him, even hate him, he was willing to spend the rest of his life making it up to her.

He decided to be selfish, just this once.

Outside the room, after Daisy Willow had packed her things, she went upstairs to fetch Elena. The little girl was thrilled to hear from her mother that they were about to go home, and she quickly bade Katie goodbye before following her mother downstairs.

When Daisy and Elena reached the bottom of the stairs, Mrs. Duncan, accompanied by the butler, blocked their path. Daisy instinctively shielded Elena behind her, "Mrs. Duncan, what are you trying to do?"

"What am I doing? Elena is our Duncan family’s lady, Cole’s daughter. What right do you have? Butler, keep little miss here and throw this woman, Daisy Willow, out," Mrs Duncan commanded without considering Elena’s feelings at all.

If Cole was telling the truth, then even though Elena is a girl, she was still the only Duncan descendent. As for twenty years later, they could have Elena marry a man off, who would then become a Duncan male descendent and carry on the Duncan family lineage.

Therefore, under no circumstances could they allow Daisy Willow to take Elena away. She was a descendent of the Duncan family, not Daisy’s.

Elena was terrified by the sight of the usual gentle butler and other family servants who appeared about to pounce. At her young age, she became scared and started crying, clinging tightly to Daisy’s leg and refusing to leave her mother.

"Mrs. Duncan, you’re going too far," Daisy protested against the heartbreaking cries of Elena, blaming Mrs. Duncan for her cruelty and for the fact that Cole refused to stand up for them.

What were this mother and son duo trying to do?

"I’m going too far? Compared to your attempt to take away our Duncan family’s granddaughter, where have I crossed the line?" Mrs. Duncan retorted, "Take little miss upstairs."

Daisy, a weak woman, was outnumbered. She tightly gripped Elena’s hand, but eventually lost her grip due to the overwhelming number of opponents.

Elena cried bitterly, so much so that she seemed about to faint. Eventually, a servant picked her up and took her upstairs while Katie quickly followed, fearing that Elena might be scared.

Helpless against the forced separation from her daughter, Daisy’s tears flowed freely.

"Cole Duncan, how can you be so indifferent, so cruel? I tell you, I won’t let you get away with this. I will definitely take Elena away, Cole Duncan, you’re a bastard," Daisy swore furiously, throwing her image to the wind.

Her movement was restricted by people as Mrs Duncan approached and slapped Daisy across the face. Then, she slapped her again, "Now I want to see what you, a powerless woman with no job, can do to make our Duncan family suffer. Daisy Willow, listen to me, I’ll give you a million, you sign the divorce paper. You can’t wish to take away Elena, she is Cole’s child, our Duncan family’s granddaughter, she won’t follow you, remember this."

"...You must be dreaming," Despite the burning pain on both cheeks, Daisy continued to yell at Mrs. Duncan, her eyes filled with hatred.

"Let’s wait and see who is more ruthless, you or me," Mrs. Duncan dismissed, letting Daisy have the last word, "Throw her out."

The butler, along with the other servants, escorted Daisy out of the house.

Daisy continued to yell and shout all the way. Hearing Elena’s incessant cries from upstairs, Cole couldn’t close his eyes again. His mind was a mess. He had never intended to separate mother and daughter this way.

But now, he felt he was no longer in control of things.
