Chapter 385: Chapter 385: High-profile Etiquette (6)
How does this old master get like this, does he just get more confused as he ages?
Bonnie Jenkins handed the boiled water to Natalie Parton to make tea, seized the opportunity to go upstairs and check on Jasmine Ruiz who had just woken up. "Mom, has Carolline and her family arrived?" Jasmine asked sleepily.
Ever since a few years ago when Jasmine felt she lost to Carolline, compounded by the thought of Carolline raising their child alone all these years, her sympathy for Carolline grew when she became pregnant herself.
Christopher Lopez was overly nice to her, attending to her every need even before she became pregnant. The man from Kyoto loved her so much, and she was truly satisfied with that. When she found life in Kyoto unbearable in her pregnant state, without controversy, Christopher escorted her to her parent’s house to recuperate. He would spend half a month with her every month.
"Not yet, they’re probably coming later," Bonnie walked over and helped her daughter up. With a five month baby bump, Jasmine looked bigger and more awkward than other expectant mothers at the same stage. Initially, they thought it could be twins, but it wasn’t. "Can’t you sleep some more?"
"Hmm, I don’t need any more sleep. Too much sleep isn’t good either," Jasmine shook her head.
"Alright, then let’s chit-chat!" Bonnie sat down, "Jasmine, do you have any idea who Axel’s father is?"
It’s unbelievable that he would do so much to meet him. Not only did the old master call them back just to personally cook dinner, but he also made a special call to Emily Hill, speaking with such tender words. This hadn’t happened since Emily had given birth to Carolline.
"I have no idea. Neither Carolline nor my uncle and aunt have said anything about it." Jasmine shook her head, she couldn’t guess, but she wasn’t all that curious either. After all, even if it turned out to be someone extremely impressive, he wouldn’t be better than Christopher Lopez.
Even though she sympathizes with Carolline, she doesn’t believe for one minute that Carolline could outshine her. She did have that degree of confidence at least.
"Exactly. He used to refuse to talk about it. He must be a worthless man. Your grandpa is making a big deal out of a trifling matter. We could’ve just waited until the Mid-Autumn festival, anyways," Bonnie was speechless. Grandpa really was getting senile.
"Mom, don’t say that about Grandpa. He lives alone in that old mansion. There are servants, sure, but as his family, we only visit him during the holidays. Maybe this is just an excuse for him to gather all of us together." After all, Grandpa was getting older. He still looked fit, but who could predict if some misfortune might befall him.
Pregnancy had mellowed Jasmine a bit. She wasn’t as imperious as before.
This was the change in her, a change quite visible to the eye.
Bonnie stopped making any remarks.
At four in the afternoon, Ryan Ruiz and Blake Ruiz arrived one after the other. There were also Carolline’s older cousins, Raymond and Felix Ruiz, as well as her younger cousin Jeffrey Ruiz and her female cousin, Avie Ruiz.
When Caroline gave birth to Axel, she had announced that she was a divorcee. Yet, no one had ever seen or met Carolline’s alleged husband, even close family members. Thus, they suspected that Carolline had a baby out of wedlock.
Because of this, Natalie forbade her daughter, Avie, to visit Carolline, fearing Avie would pick up Carolline’s bad habits.
Even so, Avie kept in touch with Carolline secretly, especially being fond of her adorable nephew Axel. She took every opportunity to visit him.
The call from Grandpa, announcing that they’d found Axel’s father, elated Avie the most.
Most of the others were filled with curiosity. When the family gathered, everyone started speculating, but the old master kept them in suspense, a broad grin on his face. It seemed as if he was quite satisfied with his son-in-law.
