Chapter 347: Chapter 347: Hengheng Recognizing Relatives (1)
At least the other nurses who replaced Carolline obeyed her orders without a peep, and wouldn’t annoy her. She wanted to isolate Daisy Willow and no one dared to back-talk her when she criticized Daisy in public.
Everyone on both sides was more at ease, so Mr. Morris let out a sigh of relief. He knew that even though Carolline had threatened him, she shared her father’s temper and would not easily reveal private affairs, no matter how disapproving.
That was why, despite his efforts, he couldn’t get on Henry Ruiz’s good side, and why he held him in such high regard.
Moreover, reliable sources confirmed that Carolline and Bryan Cooper were really together now. Considering her current status, he really was in no position to offend her. A bit of a temper was to be expected.
Besides, he honestly looked down on Mrs. Duncan’s aggressive behavior.
Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but feel sorry for his own daughter. Joanna Auclair was a woman he genuinely liked, and Jane Auclair was a daughter he cared for. He felt guilty for not giving Jane his surname, so he wanted to do everything he could to give the mother and daughter a brighter, happier future.
He found some time to visit Jane Auclair in the ward, claiming it was merely a sick visit.
Jane was just getting cleaned up by Joanna when Mr. Morris arrived. At first, Joanna was excited to see him, but then she calmed down. "Why are you here at this hour? If people see you, it could have a negative impact on you," she said.
"I just came to see Jane. You’ve been working hard these past days." Mr. Morris was really grateful to Joanna. No matter when, she never complained about him. It was hard not to appreciate her and even harder to forget her and leave her.
He thought that perhaps there was not a woman in the world who would go to such lengths for a man; bearing a child out of wedlock to not affect his status and family life, yet still being at his beck and call. If he asked her to leave, she wouldn’t hesitate, if he asked her to stay she wouldn’t leave. This moved Mr. Morris a lot. In his seemingly dreary life, this woman was a godsend.
"Dad—" Jane Auclair was quite disgruntled with her father. There was a period she refused to acknowledge him. But, her mother loved him too much, and his feelings for her mother were genuine. He truly cared for her mother with what he could provide. Jane guessed that this was probably why her mother never left him.
Even though he hardly acted the part of a father in front of her, her mother never reprimanded him.
"Hmm, you should be discharged from the hospital in a couple of days. Take good care of yourself, women need to recuperate after childbirth. Afterwards, your father will take care of everything for you. Your life will be just like anyone else’s," Mr. Morris said, genuinely sympathizing with Jane. She was so young and beautiful, but now, she was disfigured and disabled. And this was all because of a married man upstairs.
His daughter was pregnant, yet the man refused to divorce his wife and marry her. The man’s mother dared to call the shots in his face. What’s so great about having money?
Wasn’t the Morris family just as wealthy back in the day? Even wealthier than the Duncan family, yet they collapsed in no time. This just goes to show how unpredictable money can be. You could suddenly become rich, but just as easily become a pauper. What truly matters is power, only then can one’s wealth be stable.
His disdain for Cole Duncan mainly stemmed from the fact that he was not a good man. His daughter was so wonderful, why did she have to end up with him?
