Chapter 344: Chapter 344: Who Is It? (7)
After the confrontation, Daisy Willow stormed out of the ward. She could handle being with Cole Duncan alone, but she was truly speechless when facing his mother and him together. The atmosphere was suffocating for her.
"Look at this, I’ve always told you that you can’t tame such a woman, but you wouldn’t believe me. Beautiful women always turn out this way, and she can’t even give birth to a son. What on earth do you see in her? In just a few more years, she’ll be past her prime." With Daisy Willow gone, the angry lady could only vent her frustration on Cole Duncan.
"Mom, she still calls you ’mom,’ right?" Cole Duncan frowned, losing his appetite after eating a few pieces of apple.
"She said Elena is the most important person to her. Do you know what that means? What else can you expect from her?" The lady couldn’t help but complain. Her grandson was gone, her son was in such a condition, and her ideal daughter-in-law had been disfigured.
Everything was a mess.
At this moment, there was a knock on the door. Joanna Auclair entered carrying a fruit basket and some nutritional supplements. "Auntie Duncan, I came to see Cole. I hope I’m not interrupting."
"Not at all, please come in and sit, Little Wu." Joanna Auclair was several years younger than Mrs. Duncan, so she always called her Little Wu.
"Auntie, how is Jane doing now?" Cole Duncan thought of Jane Auclair’s actions the night of the car accident, and he was furious. However, everything had happened already. She carried his child once, and he needed to keep up appearances regardless. Yet, he didn’t plan to deal with Jane anymore – he would just give her some cash to settle the matter.
"She’s emotionally stable for now. After she’s discharged, we’ll take her to H Country for plastic surgery and fit her with a prosthetic limb. In the future, she’ll be no different from a normal person. As for you, Cole, you need to take good care of yourself. Don’t lose hope. Many patients who were declared paralyzed by doctors can eventually stand again. Our Jane told me to tell you that she won’t give up on you. She’ll wait for you, so just focus on your recovery." Joanna relayed Jane’s message to Cole Duncan.
After listening, Cole furrowed his eyebrows as their thoughts weren’t the same. He thought it was over, but it seemed that Jane had other ideas.
Mrs. Duncan, on the other hand, was quite satisfied. She admired Jane and was mainly pleased with Joanna’s statement that Jane would be like a normal person in the future. As for her son, they still didn’t know how long he would need to rely on a wheelchair. So, Jane not giving up on him was a good thing, of course.
She just couldn’t tolerate Daisy Willow’s attitude. Even though her son was in a wheelchair, she still didn’t think Daisy Willow was good enough for him. With the Auclair family’s support, she felt much more at ease now.
"Cole, look at how good Jane is to you. Even though she’s bedridden, she still gets her mother to relay messages to you. But Daisy Willow, she never puts you first." Mrs. Duncan chimed in.
"Has your daughter-in-law been taking care of him all this time?" Joanna asked when she heard Mrs. Duncan mention Daisy Willow, trying to assess the situation. Jane was worried that, during the past few days, Daisy Willow would be at Cole Duncan’s side, trying to gain sympathy."
She initially thought that Jane was overreacting. With Cole now disabled, any rational person would think about freeing themselves from the relationship. But was Daisy Willow too foolish to understand, or was there something else going on? To her surprise, Daisy continued to stay close to Cole, accompanying him 24 hours a day.
It seemed that her daughter knew Daisy Willow better than she did. She had originally thought that Jane wanted to marry Cole Duncan because she was genuinely in love with him. But it turned out that she was only after the title of Mrs. Duncan and the inheritance of the Duncan family.
