Carolline Ruiz stared directly at Mrs. Shen without any fear, and in an instant, the hateful gaze forced Mrs. Shen to back down.

"You quickly settle Elena down and then return to the ward." Mrs. Shen said to Daisy Willow. She couldn’t vent her anger at Carolline, so she vented it at Daisy instead.

As for Carolline, she wouldn’t let her off the hook either. It was too late tonight, but as soon as day broke, she would hand over the recorded evidence to the Dean’s Office.

"I understand, mom." Daisy Willow sighed with relief, thinking that Mrs. Shen had decided to let Carolline go. "Elena, Auntie Carolline will take you to sleep and tomorrow morning, your mom will wait for you to come for breakfast, okay?"

"Mhm." Elena nodded sensibly. She liked Carolline more and more because of her dominance over her grandmother, which her own mother never showed.

"Then you go back first, and I’ll come over later. Elena, let’s go. Auntie will take you to Axel’s grandparents’ house to sleep." There were beds in the duty room, but who knew what might happen in the middle of the night— it wasn’t ideal for a child to sleep in the hospital.

At ten o’clock, Carolline took Elena home. Emily Hill and Henry Ruiz warmly welcomed their young guest. Elena felt at ease being around Axel’s family and knew he must be happy to live in such a family.

"Auntie, where is Axel?" Elena asked while Carolline was helping her make the bed. She didn’t know how long she would be staying at the hospital, so she missed Axel.

"Axel went home with his dad. They’ll be going out tomorrow and probably return in a week. By then, I’ll have Axel come over to play with you, okay?" Carolline set up the bed and found a stuffed bear for Elena. "If you need anything tonight, just tell grandma, and she’ll help you. If there’s anything else, just call Auntie, okay?"

"Mhm, I understand. Thank you, auntie." Elena nodded.

"You won’t be scared sleeping alone tonight, will you?" Carolline wondered whether Axel had trouble sleeping in his bed because he was afraid, and if it was the same for Elena.

"No, I usually sleep alone at home, auntie." Elena obediently said as Emily Hill entered the room. "The bathwater is ready, Elena. Come and take a bath with Grandma."

Elena obediently followed, and Carolline, relieved that the girl wasn’t shy, prepared to return to the hospital.

The first thing Carolline did when she returned was to change the medicine for the two patients. It wasn’t until after twelve o’clock, when she removed their IVs, that she could finally get a good night’s sleep.

Cole Duncan fell asleep after having his IV removed around midnight. Daisy Willow couldn’t sleep and went to sit in the hallway. Carolline borrowed some barbecue from a colleague and was about to return to the duty room when she noticed a somewhat lonely Daisy sitting there, so she headed over.

"Would you like something to eat?" Carolline sat down, as there was plenty of barbecue that had been bought for Daisy to eat if she wanted.

"No, I ate a lot tonight." Daisy shook her head. Her mood was low, and she felt that she needed to think about her and her child’s future.

"Well, you can talk about what’s troubling you, even if I can’t help. Just listening to you vent could be helpful." Carolline tried to coax her.

"No need, Miss Ruiz. Go get some rest. Elena and I have already caused you enough trouble. Please don’t provoke my mother-in-law on our account. She’s capable of anything." Daisy sighed. Despite her wealth, her mother-in-law behaved like an unreasonable, uneducated woman.
