Chapter 253: Chapter 253 Unmasking the Lies (1)
Just then, Carolline heard footsteps upstairs. She rushed up quickly and saw someone she knew throwing away trash. She greeted them and then returned home.
Bryan Hawkins didn’t catch up to her; instead, he exited through the safety staircase and took the elevator down.
As Carolline went upstairs, she saw her father and son still moving the things Bryan Hawkins bought for Axel. Axel was chirping like a noisy little sparrow, nonstop talking to Henry Ruiz, who was listening patiently with a smile.
When they saw Carolline return, Henry Ruiz didn’t ask much, but Axel’s eyes were full of laughter. "Mom, did you bring dad back? When is he coming again?"
"...." At that moment, Carolline really wanted to sew Axel’s chattering little mouth shut, but since he already said it, there was nothing she could do. She glanced guiltily at Henry Ruiz and said, "Dad, um... I’ll take the rest."
Henry Ruiz didn’t object, leaving the remaining two bags of items for Carolline to take.
With all these things, a corner of the dining room was piled high and full. Carolline found it headache-inducing, but Axel seemed to love it. It was as if Carolline hadn’t bought him clothes or toys for all these years.
"Axel, Mom will run the water for you. You go fetch your clothes and brush your teeth and bathe yourself." Not wanting to explain further, Carolline needed to act fast since there were only fifteen minutes left until nine o’clock.
"Oh. Mom, can I check the clothes dad bought for me? I want to pick one to wear tomorrow." Axel wanted to wear something his dad bought right away and see how good his taste was.
"What did Mom tell you? New clothes don’t mean they’re clean. These need to be washed before you wear them." Carolline shot him a side glance, feeling quite frustrated because her son had switched sides so quickly.
"...." Axel fell silent, his small mouth pouting slightly, looking wronged.
In the end, Axel obeyed, went to his room, fetched his pajamas, and went into the bathroom on his own.
Carolline hung the bath towel behind the door and left after preparing everything for him. Since Axel was four, Carolline had been training him to bathe himself, and now he was quite adept at it.
So, leaving Axel alone in the bathroom, she was quite at ease.
As she came out, Carolline headed straight to the living room where Henry Ruiz was in the process of unpacking the clothes Bryan Hawkins bought for Axel, planning to wash them later. "Dad, don’t unpack them all. Leave some for mom. Let her give them to her colleagues’ children."
"Would Axel agree?" This was what Axel had been yearning for, clothes bought by his dad. Knowing Axel as well as he did, Henry Ruiz knew he likely wouldn’t agree, especially since this was the first time Bryan Hawkins bought clothes for his son.
"There are so many, he can’t wear them all anyway." Carolline hesitated for a moment, seeing many toys that Axel had grown tired of when he was three years old. However, taking them from Bryan Hawkins now made them treasures.
Right, if she secretly took away clothes his dad bought for him and gave them to other children, who knows what kind of uproar he might create? It was something she couldn’t explain.
"Then...unpack them all," Carolline thought for a moment, then started helping.
"Tonight, did your family of three have dinner together? How was it? Did Bryan Cooper express anything to you?" asked Henry Ruiz casually while unpacking.
Over these years, although Carolline had been unable to resist Emily Hill’s insistence on blind dates, she had only humored her mother. Ever since she met Bryan Hawkins, her heart had belonged to him.
