"Auntie, let’s wait for the Village Chief to come back," Carolline Ruiz raised her eyebrows, not having seen the Village Chief yet.

Before, it was always the four of them eating together. She would chat with Auntie about daily life, and Gavin Campbell would drink wine with the Village Chief. They all got along quite well.

"No need to wait for him. I’ve put his food aside for whenever he comes back. Let’s eat first, who knows when he’ll return?" The Village Chief’s wife said carelessly.

Carolline and Gavin tried to insist on waiting, but they couldn’t convince the Village Chief’s wife. So, they had to eat dinner with her first, and the Village Chief still hadn’t returned by the time they finished.

They waited a bit longer, watching the local news on the Village Chief’s black and white television. Soon it was eight in the evening, and Carolline was getting tired and yawning.

Seeing this, the Village Chief’s wife immediately went to the kitchen to heat water for Carolline. She hadn’t taken a bath in the past ten days, just doing simple body washes. The Village Chief’s wife suggested waiting for warmer weather to bathe, and Carolline agreed. She was also worried about her special condition making it easier to catch a cold or something. If that happened, she wouldn’t be able to hide her pregnancy secret any longer.

Just as Carolline was soaking her feet, she heard the Village Chief come back, and he really did bring a guest with him.

Gavin was the first to go out. Carolline didn’t want to join, but then Gavin excitedly knocked on her door, "Carolline, come on, come out quick! Guess who’s here?"

"Who is it?" Carolline had just wiped her feet and was about to pour out the foot-washing water. Seeing Gavin’s excited expression, she was quite surprised.

"Andy Aguirre is here." Gavin was so excited that he almost bit his tongue. He never expected the extra person to be Andy Aguirre. But on second thought, he understood why.

"Andy Aguirre?" Carolline was also stunned. It would have been fine if there was another familiar face at the Hospital, but wasn’t Andy still abroad? Even if he wanted to come back, it couldn’t be at this moment, "Are you still half-asleep?"

"How could he be half-asleep?" Suddenly, the voice of Andy Aguirre cut in. He had just washed his face and hurried over to see a certain someone, not even having time to eat dinner.

"Is it really you?" Both turned to look, Carolline exclaimed in surprise, and Gavin had already been surprised, "What brings you here?"

"I came to get ahead in the future by working on an honor or something." Andy Aguirre winked and playfully spoke to Carolline.

"Pfft ——" Carolline couldn’t help but laugh. With Andy’s status as a returnee from studying abroad, he already had plenty of honors. Yet, he came to compete with them for this honor.

"By the way, Auntie asked me to bring this to you." Andy brought a big bag and placed it in front of Carolline. Without looking, she knew what was inside - milk powder, cereal, and other nutritional items combined with some mixed snacks.

She used to love snacks, but since coming to Gratan Town and seeing so many children who never even tasted preserved plums, her heart ached. Thinking of her peers both in China and abroad who had tried all kinds of candied fruits and snacks, she realized there was nothing they hadn’t eaten.

So, now, if she were to openly snack, she would feel extremely embarrassed.

"Thank you. My mom is too much; I still have a big pile in my room that I haven’t finished. Gavin, ask Uncle Hai to bring the children to the Village Chief’s house tomorrow," Carolline said to Gavin. Uncle Hai was the security guard at the temporary school they had set up.

"Being polite with me? I still haven’t had dinner with the Village Chief! You two should come and keep me company if you’re not sleepy," Andy requested.

"I’m sleepy. You guys go ahead." Carolline was truly tired. Her work intensity was high every day, and her body was in a special state. She just wanted to sleep, even though Andy’s arrival excited her, her excitement would have to wait until tomorrow.
